general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

The blinker level does not automatically shut off after the turn is preformed. It never has. Yes it can be inspected if asked. Because of this fault, people driving behind me have thought I am turning and have attempted to go around my vehicle, almost causing collision on several occasions. This puts myself, my passengers, and the other vehicle in immediate danger. As well as the vehicle behind the one attempting to go around my vehicle. Yes it has been reproduced by multiple car repair shops. There is never a time that the turn lever has worked properly. When talking to the previous owner, he indicated that he also had the same problem since he purchased the vehicle. Many online vehicle specific forums have owners who talk about having the same problem and the accidents they've gotten in due to it. There are no warning lights. The blinker stays active as well as the dash light indicating the blinker is still on. The date indicated was the most recent it happened and almost caused an accident.

The shift lever does not want to release from park. I cant get it to go into drive. Traction light comes on and overrides cruise control. Refer to recall dated 5/14/2014 #14v252000 or gm recall 13036. It is in for repair now. Almost $500 for repair.

The July 14, 2014 recall (13036) describes the issue perfectly. Brake lights come on when gas is pressed, goes off when brake pedal is pressed (very dangerous). Airbag, motor & traction control lights come on, message center says “esc” “traction control”. We have had the car on multiple diagnostic tools saying it’s the module and the electrical isn’t communicating with the module… according to the recall, it is exactly what is happening. We bought the car recently for our new driver not knowing and after hours of research and going to mechanics it seems to be the same recall but this car/VIN is not included in the recall. My child is going to get rear ended because nothing is fixing the issue and this VIN doesn’t have any “recalls”.

The front doors on the car lock and unlock them selves and often you have to climb into the backseat from the front seat to exit the car. This is a serious danger if you were in an accident or the car was on fire. Hi I am [xxx] and it’s almost impossible for me to climb over the seats the way the cockpit is made. When the car locks itself it’s impossible to unlock the car using the door locks inside by pulling them up or using the key in the drivers door nothing works. The car can be completely locked and hours later maybe the next day the drivers door will be open on its own. This is happened several times in the rain soaking the driver seat. The only way to unlock the doors if they lock on their own it’s to play with a key fob pressing lock unlock maybe 100 times and you might get lucky and it unlocks. I spent three days once before I could enter my car using the key fob as I explained earlier. The door came open one time while the car was going forward and luckily I was in a walmart parking lot or there’s no telling what would’ve happened. When the car was shifted into drive the door locks clicked down but that still did not stop the door from opening. I purchased the car two months ago for $7000 and the dealer is going to do nothing they stressed as is. I have read online there are thousands of these complaints for the same thing and gm has not acknowledged the problem to date. Complaints I have read also stated they have done different repairs to the doors which are quite costly but they were to no avail. This seems like a very serious and dangerous problem being trapped inside a car especially in florida where I live and the temperatures in a car can reach 140 degrees. Driving down the highway, the car completely shuts down, states engine deactivated, engine power decreased, and traction light on, had to attempt to safely pull over, had to be towed, still trying to figure what's wrong, completely unsafe!.

I submitted a complaint regarding traction service/escape alerts at any given time of my 2010 chevolet malbu and have not received an acknowledgment of my complaint. Therefore I am hoping it has been resolved. Thank goodness, ithe car passed inspection on 10/17/2023 for which the complaint of the traction service alerts have affected my yearly inspection for at least 3 years. My brake lights are always on as if I am riding the brakes (which I am not) and when I apply the brakes they turn off. I also get a warning to service traction control and esc. I understand that gm had a recall for this and the repair work was done on this vehicle but people are complaining that the repair is only temporary and the problem returns. I don't think I should have to pay for this to be repaired as it is a know problem with many gm cars, not just Malibu. The vehicle is useless as it is because it will definitely cause a accident.

Transmission went out at 88740 miles. Paid over $3000 for it and there are still issues. This car is junk. I feel chevy should have repair all these issues on this car. Now it's the throttle body and transmission issues. It's non stop issues. I baby this car out of fear to no avail.

Head light wire is out , electrical wire is messing up . Car is shaking bad and won’t start . Air bag light is on.

Brake lights stay on while driving but turn off when braking, engine and traction control lights come on, car acts like it's going to die. This happens intermittently and sometimes without any warning lights. I noticed this again most recently within the last week and several times on 2/25/23. Vehicle has not yet been inspected but was previously taken in for the same issue in 2020. Dealership stated that since the lights weren't staying on and no codes were stored, they weren't required to make repairs. It goes without saying that driving with faulty lights can cause an accident and is also illegal. It is highly irresponsible of gm not to repair this known issue and of NHTSA not to issue a recall.

I drive down the road and the brake lights come on I hit the brake then they go off. Randomly when I drive service esc service traction come on but as soon as I turn the car off and back on it is gone. Cruise control stopped working as well.

My daughter was driving back from school in a very busy road and a message came up on the dash board that said engine power reduced and speed droped to 5 mph. I told her to park somewhere and turn off car for like 15 minutes and turn it back on and car still didnt accelerate. Had to go get her and leave car there. I just purchased this vehicle on November 2021.

I was driving and the service traction control came across my car the the engine powering down notification appeared, and the check engine light. I took it to advance auto and they hooked up the machine which gave them the code dtc p2138. I took it to a mechanic who said the accelerator pedal sensor needed to be replaced. I replaced it and I'm still having the same issue. This time when it came on the pedal completely lost power until I turned the car off and restarted it.

I purchase the 2010 chevy Malibu, 6/2013. The service traction lights comes on periodically until I am forced to take it in for service. I had to take the car in for this same problem at least 4 times, more or less, also the last time I took the car in, the technician was not able to reset the sensors. A more seasoned tech had to reset the sensors. I am filing a report, because this cost me money every time I take it to the dealer and it is certain a safety issue for me to continue to drive the car with the service traction light coming on and off and stationary at times. It appears to be a defect in the auto system. I should not be required to have to take the car in every year for the same problem and putting myself and others at risk. Hattie overman 718-320-8254.

While in motion I turn and my steering wheel locks up and on the screen power steering and esc traction control off pops up it's locking up more frequently now and this is very dangerous. Then a couple days later my engine light pops on I figured it was because of the power steering esc traction control problem but after serval days later I'm at work and the car want start . I try a couple times and gives it some gas then it started so I was on my way then maybe 15 minutes down the road the steering wheels locks up again and the same message pops up on the screen this is really weird and again dangerous.

Exterior brake lights come on & cruise control shuts off. When in motion.

Transmission keeps going out.

My driver seat is broke from the bottom of floor and my gas pedal stick and jump when I hit the gas pedal.

Drove to the store and when I started my car to leave my steering wheel was locked up and on my dash read power steering, service esc, service air bag and traction light was on.

I dropped my 2010 Malibu (1g1zb5eb1af245129) off at matick chevy on 1/10/2020. I called 1/11/2020 and was told there was no charge and it was ready for pick up. That's all I was told. I didn't make it home before the same problem occurred: service traction error light on the dash board and all 3 brake lights are on - when no one is pressing on the brake. The car is in the garage and all 3 brake lights are on - no one is in the vehicle. . . I'm driving down the highway and all 3 brake lights are on - I'm not braking. This is a serious safety concern. Today is 1/19/2020 and I still don't have my vehicle and have not received a call - despite leaving a message for the service mgr, mike, on 1/16/19. He advised that this vehicle is covered under a �special warranty program or policy - 150,000 miles or the year 2025�. The vehicle is 10 years old - dealerships don't fix anything for free, so that "special program" is indicative of the company taking responsibility and knowing that you have a problem with this vehicle. I have owned gm products all my life and for the first time do not know if my loyalty to the manufacturer or brand will continue. I am very disappointed in the way this situation has been handled. The vehicle have been serviced for this same problem twice previously. The only saving grace is that I demanded a loaner. Please help.

Head light low beam light blow out every 2 months. I have to get this replaced. This is very expressive. The whole bumper have to be removed.

I have been having a problem with my car running really funny. Sometimes it won't start. Then at times it will start but if you put it in gear to drive. It goes very slow. This happen in 2016 before. I got a letter from gm to take it in to be fixed. When I take it in. My car resets. And the dealer tells me they can't fix it. The letter I received from gm is saying I have until 2020 to get it fixed. The first time it happened I had very low miles.

Brake lights remain on while pedal's not activated, and turn off when pedal is pressed. Esc and traction error messages appear while driving, usually when coming to a complete stop at any given time. The lighting issue seems to coincide with the appearance of said error messages.

Engine goes into reduced power mode after dash trouble lights show, service ecu, traction control errors and engine light comes on. Severe safety threat when in reduced power mode. P1682 code dealer said it was knock sensor and wiring harness, did not resolve. Needs to be addressed immediately. This all happens while either driving it or idle.

After driving for a few miles it won't let me accelerate and vehicle starts shaking. It first happened on the freeway and I was able to exit without an accident. Right after acceleration wouldn't work engine power low, service traction popped up. Once I put the car in park it shakes. I turn off car for about 3 minutes and then it back on and it drives but happens again within 5 minutes.

While driving on the freeway, I felt a jump as if I had gone over a bump. The vehicle began to hesitate and started to loose speed. I was able to move to the side and braked to a complete stop. I placed the shift to parking and shift it to drive as I press on gas paddle the vehicle jumped again and was driving as if on the neutral position and the speed wouldn't advance. I shifted once again, and it vehicle jumped again. I googled and it mentioned the shift cable tab could be broken. I looked under the hood and checked the shift cable and there was no tab. Mechanic replaced the bushing and it failed once again. Vehicle is currently un-drivable. I read that gm was recalling this type of problem with 2008-2010 Malibu. I've got images and invoice but having trouble uploading at this time.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu transmission stopped working while driving on a main road. 93,000-95,000 miles on the vehicle. Driving and the car stopped shifting into gear, and will not reverse. Car is unsafe and unable to drive.

Out of no where my car started shaking I was in the heat with my daughter it said service esc/service trac. I have had many people look at it, I've had them test everything but nothing seems to help it didn't do it for awhile then I left my car on with the a/c while picking up my daughter we were sitting in the heat outside her school she only 2 and complain how hot it is while I'm trying see if I can fix it. This has happened multiple times out of no where in the middle of traffic.

Service traction control, service esc, lights come on as driving. Lighted up on information pane. Second time this is happened. Took to dealer last time they did some reset and charged $75.

So I'm putting the car in park the driver side door would not unlock you can't use the key fob you also can't use it inside handle to open it or the outside and it'll stay lost 4 days and then unlock itself it'll be okay for a few days and then the same thing happens all over again this is a safety issue if you can't get out of your car in a hurry when there is an accident or you need to to me this is a safety issue you never know when it's going to happen it can be working fine you can go into the store you can come out you can't get in the car or you can get in the car to come home and I can't get out of the car yes I bought my car used from tregembo motors and of course that part's not under warranty I've looked at all the reviews this is a been a known problem for years and gm is aware of it they need to fix it this isn't the first time I've been locked in or out of my car this has been going on for over a month.

Two days ago my husband, two children and I were driving at about 40-45 mph when our 2010 chevy Malibu drastically slowed down and wouldn't accelerate with the gas pedal pressed all the way to the floor. At the same time service esc, service traction and engine power reduced illuminated on our dash. Thankfully we were able to coast into a gas station. After turning the car off and on again, checking under the hood and sitting for over 30 minutes the problem still persisted. The car would not accelerate at all. We had to have a tow truck come get the car and bring it to the chevy dealership. Today we received a call from the delearship saying we needed to replace the throttle body and it would cost $630. This doesn't make sense as the car has only 13,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of. I put the VIN into the recall database and the only recall attached to our VIN is the brake lamp malfunction. This is very dangerous and should be looked into by the manufacturer.

I have been noticing and been told my brake lights were on while driving down road and at times my cruise control would not function and it happens during day when I can't tell and at night which obviously is more apparent but not any less dangerous . . . Putting two together my brake lights would be coming on and when I press the pedal to slow down they go off. . . I bought this car used and after googling to find a fix I see there are many recalls and complaints regarding this issue with this year make and model. . . As it does not list my VIN to be involved with any recalls it's concerning that the safety of my kids and I could be at risk. I cannot find any positive fix to the problem yet and see many people spent hundreds to thousands at dealerships only to find the problem not fixed. . . If there's any assistance information or go to's you can provide I would be greatly appreciated.

Headlight bulbs keep burning out and random. Paid $432 to Chevrolet dealership to fix problem and it is still occuring.

Drivers door will not open. Door locks work but outside and inside door handles/latches will not open door. It is in a solid state of being locked. Thie door will not open when parked and ignition off nor with ignition on. Brakes engaged, brakes disengaged doesn't matter. Safety issue in case I need to get out ASAP.

Ignition problems, electrical problems throughout the car and brake light ,plus transmission is not shifting gears.
