1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

My check engine light has been coming on lately. So I took it to a place so they could check it. The results states that the camshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. My lights are dimming, the bright headlights symbol comes on if I am sitting under a viaduct, the radio is disappearing on the dashboard, and my heating system is on when it's off. Then the car is jerking erratically when I proceed to drive after a stop. My vehicle is under 50,000 miles. It's at 48342 now. I need to know if there are any recalls because 3 years ago I,was under 35000 miles and had to pay for a new engine that should have been covered under the emissions act, and I had to pay $800 for that, plus getting disrespected by the manager at the dealership. Please let me know if anything comes up concerning this matter. Thank you.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2016

I have been experiencing issues with my 2011 chevy Malibu. I was driving down the road when suddenly the motor started violently shaking and the dashboard information display would flash, "engine power reduced, service esc, service traction control, air bag lights and check engine light came on". This was an intermittent issue, it can sometimes go weeks/months without issues, but then out of nowhere it will start happening again. Sometimes shutting the car off, waiting a few moments, and restarting would usually get it running correctly again. However, other times it will remain for several days. The issue has been becoming more frequent and staying longer as time goes on. When I started seeing the issue I looked up online to see if other people were seeing similar issues and found hundreds of people with the same year, make, model car having the same exact issue. I have seen issues started at 50k miles and up, but mine started doing this at approximately 72k miles. This issue has almost caused me to get in several accidents, and I believe this should be recalled as this is a major problem. Here are some of the websites at which I found people sharing their stories of the same exact issue. . Read more...

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

1/26/2016 I got my camshaft solenoid fixed due to my check engine light coming on. When it started to shake real bad with the dash lights stating that my engine power was reduced, loss of traction (something to that effect) I instantly put it in the shop. Then last week 3/4/2016 I was driving up to erie, PA from ohio, which is about 4. 5 hours away. I say a good 40 minutes from my destination it happens again right on the highway. Engine light comes on and the dash says that my engine power has been reduced and loss of traction (?). Thankfully there was an exit near that I could get off at and as soon as I put my car in park it started to shake real bad. So I did what I did before and turned the car off to let it reset and then started it back up. It ran fine for the remainder of my stay until it came time for me to leave to go back home. This time I only got 20 minutes away from erie before it started acting up again, but it kept doing it. Talk about being frustrated 4. 5 hours away from home in your car. Especially since I just got it fixed not too long ago. This needs to be on the recall list, because this is ridiculous.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

First, I had to jump the car to start it. Cold morning but the battery was only 3 months old. Driving from downriver mi area all expressway to grand rapids. Just entered grand rapids area when I had to reduce speed from 75 to 60. Car would not accelerate back to original speed. Cruise control had been engaged. Problem resolved itself but 15 minutes later the car went from 75 to 25 mph by the time I had exited the freeway and stopped the car. The car would not accelerate and the pedal was to the floor. The traction control light went on as did messages:reduced engine power, service esc, and the check engine light went on. The engine light stayed on. I was able to turn car back and accelerate but the check engine light stayed on and the engine felt like it chugged a bit. When I stopped at intersections, the car felt as if it wanted to stall. Mileage is 88,258.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

The violently shakes almost as if it is about to die. It doesn't go over 23-30 mph. The car accelerates while holding the brakes. A message displays saying engine power reducing, service traction, service esc. The car stalls while driving it on the street and highway. I'm scared of hitting someone while my foot is on the brake! my car is at 103k miles on it. I'm out of a car that I'm paying a note on. Its out of warranty. I haven't even had the car for a while year yet. The check engine light is on as well. The code for the check engine light is c0242. This is a very dangerous electrical problem. This should be a recall! many chevy Malibu owners are having or have had the same issue!.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2015

6/6/2015 car was sitting in parking lot. Upon trying to start the car errors for electronic stability control and reduced engine power showed up. Car was sputtering and running rough. Turned car off. Waited a little while and started car again and no error messages. But the check engine light came on. The error code that came up was p2101. 6/10/2015 same thing happened. 14 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2014

Check engine light came on, reduced engine speed, low traction lights came on, and could go over 40 mph. We stopped and let it sit for appx 5 minutes, and were able to drive it home. My son has an automotive computer we were able to hook up and it read the mass air flow sensor. We removed it and cleaned it with mass air flow sensor cleaner and replaced it. As soon as we started the car up, the check engine light went off. The car drove fine until 2-7-2015 where the exact same thing happened at appx 74,700 miles. We took it in to the dealership (coughlin automotive in circleville) on 2-14-15. They tested it and it showed the code p2135 #pip2019 they checked connectors for corrosion & damage , but found nothing. They ran the throttle sweep test. It tested ok. They cleared the code & drove & couldn't get it to do it again. They said they just can't replace parts because they cost too much, not knowing exactly what the issue is. They said if it happens again, to bring it in. My wife drives this car every day to columbus ohio during rush hour, on state highways. I'm scared this is going to happen again during rush hour and something bad is going to happen like a serious accident and or loss of life to someone. So, does gm think parts cost more than a loss of life because of this issue??????.

16 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

2011 Malibu was acting like it was not getting enough gas or bad spark plugs. Then the check engine light came and other indicator lights. Had a diagnostics ran and said that the fuel pump had a pin hole. Replace the fuel pump, got a tune-up ran good for a couple of days. Went to start the car again and it once again started acting as if it was not getting enough gas and engine light once again came on, service esc, service traction. When driving on the highway it will sometimes slow down from the current speed. Found a recall concerning the service esc, but the dealer said they do not think it has anything to do with that. This started when all of the code started popping up.

17 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Luckily I was stuck in wall to wall traffic due to bad weather on my way home from work. I attempted to hit the gas to inch forward and my car starting shaking and seemed to be idled up. My check engine light came on and my dash read engine powering down, service tracking system and my car would go no faster than 20 mph. The part isn't covered under warranty on a 3yr car and I have to pay $388. 00 to have this fixed.

18 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

I was driving this vehicle on one of the main highways where there is a lot of traffic and several lights appeared first it was the service esc, engine power reduced, and service traction light, along with my check engine light, and traction light, the car then dropped from a speed of 65 to a speed of 20 and would not go on the highway this almost got me killed. I feel that gm should look into this issue as there are several people having the same issue, I would rather my life be saved than driving in a defective vehicle.

19 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2011

This problem occurred first in November 2011. The engine stopped, there was no steering, service esc,the engine light came on. The vehicle was restarted but would not move when put in gear. Today is the second time this same problem has occurred. Chevy said the problem was repaired in November, but now it's back. The Malibu is back at chevy for the second time for this problem. We experienced another incident 2 weeks ago but after starting the car again the problem was not there and has not surfaced until now. I certainly hope this problem is resolved this time for good. I feel very uncomfortable pulling into traffic.
