I purchased my pre owned 2011 Chevrolet Malibu vehicle 3 years ago and after 80000 miles my transmission completely collapsed. I have taken good care of my car and still owe $8000. 00 on my loan. I have seen multiple complaints online from people in my same situation with the 2011 Malibu. I do not understand why gm hasn't issued a recall for the transmissions. This is clearly a safety issue. I was exiting the freeway witj both of my children in the car, when my transmission gave out. It will not go in reverse or go over 20 mph. I feel that there should be some level of accountability from gm.
Was driving and I could get any power. Would not get up to 20 miles an hour.
Purchased car 09/2015 haley Buick GMC trucks in richmond virginia with 75k miles. It was a previous rental car. Was given clean carfax and maintenance record that the vehicle had been maintained per manufactures schedule. It has an enclosed transmission and cannot check transmission fluid it has to be maintained. A year after the purchase and adding only 8k miles this car has a completely blown transmission in will cost $4,888 to have a new transmission ordered. My issue is there is no recalls on the 35r plate which is the cause of ruining the transmission on many form sites for this year of Chevrolet Malibu. Then there are a large number of complaints and issue with this model on forms.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle began to decrease in speed when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle shook violently and all the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred once. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Less than two months after my 5 year or 100,000 mile powertrain warranty expired my transmission stopped working. It started by driving slowly while pressing on the accelerator. I was able to park the car and when I tried to reverse out of the parking space and it would not go into reverse. I had onstar so I had to get a tow to the nearest dealership which had just closed. I had to wait until the next day and the dealership called me to tell me that the transmission needed to be replaced and it would cost me $3,910. 00. I have read several complaints about this so I do not understand why gm has not recalled this transmission. Many of them failed before $100,000 miles so they would have been able to get a new one. I was just two months past my 5 year but was at 98,273 miles and my warranty was expired. I had to get a new car since I could not afford to pay $4000. 00 to get a new transmission. The car is just sitting and can't be driven.
Transmission completely broke after 74k miles while driving at about 20mi an hour. It would jump into 3rd gear and then wouldn't come out of 1st gear. After pulling over reverse had already gone out. There were no prior warnings that the transmission had any problems, there were no indicators that the transmission had problems. After the transmission broke I ran across many other consumers who have the same problem on their 2011 Malibu's. All of them are 4 cylinder 6 speeds with an mh8 transmission.
While I was driving/the vehicle was in motion on a city street, the transmission suddenly gave out/stopped working. The drive gear no longer worked and no warning was given. I was stranded in the middle of a busy, city street and no error code or check engine light warning was given as well. I purchased this car in February 2015 and have had only about 8 months. It was purchased from burns motors in mcallen texas.
I was driving down a side residential street, when I went to park noticed that the car was stuck in reverse. I wasn't able to put the car in park. The shifter began shifting into different gears and felt as there was no catch. I turned the car off because I didn't know what had happened. The key was stuck in the ignition, because couldn't put the car in park. I exited the car and the car started to roll backwards and hit the car behind me. I applied the emergency brake and the car still rolled in reverse. So I unhooked the battery cables and applied bricks behind the tires. I had a mechanic come to see what happened and he stated that this had been a recall on prior years of this model, but not the year of my car. I am afraid to drive the car and I went to the chevy dealership in which they nothing about this part, but state many people have complained and nothing has been done. It is unsafe with this defect. The cable comes off the hook and you will not be able to apply a shift to any gear and the car will accelerate regardless. I don't want to put my infant in this car knowing that is a defective part that chevy should fix. Not to mention the car seatbelts are a malfunction. Chevy this really needs to be looked at for this year make and model.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately at 20 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. In addition, when the vehicle was parked, the shift lever was not able to shift out of the park position. The contact stated that an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000. The VIN was not available.
On 3/28/15 I purchased a 2011 chevy Malibu from rainbow Chevrolet in laplace louisiana. When test driving the vehicle, I noticed a very small and hardly noticeable jerk when the car changed into 2nd gear. I was told by the salesman that it was normal and I took his word for it. Almost 7 months later, the issue has gotten 1000 x¿s worse and the engine light is now on. I know for a fact that this is not normal now. The jerk is violent and it now jerks when putting the car in park, drive and reverse. Pulling off slowly, makes the car jerk very hard. If you apply more gas when taking off,the jerk is not as bad but it's still bad. The car did not come with a warranty but I was ok with that because I was told that car had been inspected thoroughly, that an elderly couple previously owned the car, that there was nothing wrong with the car and I had also just gotten rid of a 2005 Malibu that I bought brand new in which I had no serious problems with. I purchased this car for my daughter in college. This car is not safe. I have read hundreds of complaints online and on the Chevrolet Malibu forum in regards to the same problem as well as other problems. The car currently has 53,803 miles which is not very much in car years and I do not feel that I should have to pay for this problem since there are so many issues documented that I am having. Last but not least, I am unable to fill up the car with gas. It stops at about ¼ tank and starts to spill out. This was noticed shortly after I bought the car also. I bought this car for my daughter who is in college and it is definitely not safe to drive. I am a single mother and I do not have the resources to repair a vehicle with issues that should be part of a recall list.

I was driving my vehcile on at 50 mph and vehicle reduced to a unsafe speed with the error messages "service traction" "esc off" and "eng pwr reduced". The unsafe drop in speed almost caused a car to hit me in the back. This is a very scary problem and if I was on the expressway and this accurred something very bad could have happen. A recall on the vehicle or the throttle body need to be made public before someone is seriously injure due to this flaw!.

I went to get air in tire. Got back in my car and started it up. It started shaking real bad and engine light came on , check engine light came on, and a thing about loss of power. I was only 5 minutes from home so I went back home. It wouldn't get over 25 miles an hour. I called edward Chevrolet in birmingham,al. They told me to get car to them but not drive it. They called me back and said it wasn't under warranty. I don't even have 100,000 on it. I read on line other people had this problem but they say it's not on recall. Why? how many people have to die or children? I didn't read of any deaths just almost. I can't believe people have to die to get something done. I was lucky and not far from home. It could have stopped on me in middle of road. I've never got any recall notices. I told the lady at edwards chev. The same thing.
I am reporting this incident although it is a little over 3 years old, I was not aware of this website when this happened, because I feel it is related to the complaint I recently submitted, complaint number: 11045010, plus Chevrolet needs to be held accountable. On October 6th, 2014 at about 2pm I am getting on the expressway as I am about to merge with traffic and start to acceleration I feel a surge and than the check engine light comes on. When I am able to I pull over to the shoulder and contact the shop where I take my car to be serviced and set up an appointment to bring my car in the next morning. Brach's auto runs a engine diagnostics test and the codes are p0700 and p2714. The manager asks if my car is still under any warranty and it was still under the powertrain warranty so he suggests I contact Chevrolet. I first contact webb chevy oak lawn who was not able to give me an appointment until 2 weeks away so I contacted the Chevrolet customer care and spoke with a rep who helped me to set up an appointment with kingdom Chevrolet and to receive a gm rental. I was not allowed to use the licensed shop where I have my car serviced and they refused to pay the engine diagnostics fee I had already had completed. Kingdom Chevrolet came up with the same diagnostic codes as brach's auto and suggested a throttle body service and fuel injection service for running issues. After the work was completed I took it back to brach's auto to have them check it out and it was suggested that I do the throttle body service which I had completed.

Bought used in November 2013 with 23,000 miles. Car's resistant to acceleration attempts, loses power at varying speeds from 30 mph and up. Vehicle brought in, dealer stated there were no problems. The problem is very intermittent, that is to say it doesn't do it all the time but this has left me in a dangerous spot while changing lanes or pulling out onto a street from a stopped position; I can floor the gas pedal and it sluggishly accelerates. The rpm often races when trying to accelerate at highway speeds after having to slow down for traffic issues. This car does not get close to the quoted fuel mileage that it is supposed to for an lt; my sole reason for purchasing this car.
I'm driving along the highway and all of a sudden my power steering and esc are lost! the car's monitors alert me but I have trouble controlling the vehicle! I finally get the vehicle to the dealer, they inform me I have to pay $1400 to fix the problem! it's not a wear and tear issue to me. My car isn't 3 years old yet! I later learned many owners have this same issue.
My wife was driving our 2011 chevy Malibu with 42,000 miles on snow-covered roads. All of a sudden, warning lights lit up, including "service esc", "engine power reduce" and the car began in jolt. This caused her to swerve into the other lane and just missed getting broadsided by a semi truck. We let the car sit for a couple of hours in a parking lot. We then took the vehicle to the dealership, who indicated it was the throttle body and that it wasn't a covered part under gm's powertrain warranty. We proceeded to talk to gm's customer service. Both individuals that we spoke with us told us that it is a covered part. The issue was escalated to a tier 2 rep who spoke directly to the dealer and the dealer continues to maintain that in their communication with gm, that it is not covered. We are so frustrated. We are 2 months from turning our vehicle in and were considering another gm lease, but I'm pretty sure we will be going with another manufacturer, since gm has opted to take this position. The dealer has offered to split the cost of the repair with us, but to me, this issue was not caused by the driver. This is a defective part. It should either be covered under warranty, a recall should be issued or some other type of resolve. This car now sits in our garage and acts this way when we start it.
I was at a stop trying to make a left turn across traffic at 7pm. When I had a chance to go my car would not go forward. It would only rev. I threw it in park then to drive. . . Nothing. Tried manual. Nothing. Reverse was all that worked. Thankfully I was able to reverse out of intersection. Had wrecker take to the dealership. Friday night they tell me car is ready that the chip in transmission went out. Go Saturday to get it and when I turned car on it read "service air bag". They tried to clear code but failed. Said that there was a true problem and would look at it Monday the 20th. Just got a call saying the air bag chip shorted out and generally all in all is a 700. 00 fix. They allegedly spoke to gm who said just charge 100. 00 deductible. Due to some issues I had with dealership they said they would only charge me 50. 00 and they would cover the rest. I do not have my car back yet as they are working on it still. Glad I still had powertrain warranty so right now the only out of pocket cost with this whole ordeal will be the 50. 00. However I feel I nor anyone else should have to pay since I was told this is a "known &common" issue.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the reduce power mode warning message illuminated as the acceleration decreased to 20 mph independently. This failure recurred every 22 miles traveled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Drove into gas station and stopped, turned off car, filled with gas. Upon starting car and putting car in drive the vehicle refused to shift into drive. Had to drive car approximately 3 blocks in reverse to get car in front of my house.
I purchsed the vehicle used in June 2012. By December 2012 as I pressed the gas to get up a hill on a dark busy with morning rush hour traffic and plenty of tractor trailer trucks the car lost acceleration and the transmission went out. The car could not be driven forward. My boyfriend had to drive the car in reverse for several miles to get us to safety. Called a tow truck and took it to the chevydealer in union city GA where they rebuilt the transmission because it was under warranty. Since then ive been cautious and afraid to really press on the gas when accelerating. About a year later started having problems with water dripping on my foot when it rained, water standing in the floor boards and a leaky roof over the drivers side door. Now about a week ago started having reduced engine power problems. So afraid for my kids who are 15 14 and 1. Gonna take it back to dealership to see what can be done. Gonna have to find a way to ppay out of pocket since I now have 110000 miles on it and no warranty.
Backed out of driveway and drove to the end of street and vehicle was sluggish to move into gear by the end of the street which is roughly 4 house down from driveway I backed out of it would no longer go forward so I had to back up all the way to my driveway and cal dealership to tow in. Monday morning dealer service dept said it was diagnosed as a sensor in transmission and it was ordered and car was back to me within two days. I am worried this will be a continuing problem as I had a similar situation with previous 2009 Ford taurus x that just kept happening with and nothing was done to resolve the situation. When you buy a new car you do not expect these issues. But, more importantly, I do not want this to occur when I am driving on a highway since this happens with no warning.
Sunday, may 27th 3pm cst driving in southwest missouri, the transmission hesitated shifting to a higher gear. I pulled over and parked on a back road, turned the car off and back on. When I shifted into reverse, the transmission did not shift, pressing the gas had no effect. I shifted the car into d, the car lurched forward but moved ? increasing speed it shifted to 2nd roughly and then into 3rd with hesitation ? it would not shift into a higher gear from there. I did not note a check engine light at that time. Because there was no cell phone signal I drove to the nearest relative?s house in oklahoma. While driving I shifted into neutral and back to drive, the transmission hesitated and took a good 15-20 seconds to engage in 3rd gear. The check engine light was on but the display did not indicate what the issue was. Shifting to manual, the display did not indicate the car was in manual (should have read m3). Shifting back to drive had no result. The car maintained speed in 3rd gear. So I drove in 3rd gear with my hazards on, north on 43, through seneca (no chevy dealer), to my aunts house in oklahoma. I contacted gm roadside assistance 800-chevusa and had the car towed. The car now sits at a dealer in joplin mo awaiting "diagnosis" and the gm customer service people will not authorize a rental car until a "diagnosis" has been done. 1st business day for dealer is Tuesday, may 29th and they state they have a back log of diagnosis and can not get to it until weds or Thursday. It has been a real catch-22 getting support since the dealer is too backlogged to diagnose I am renting a car on my own dime, plus live 3 hours from joplin! note that over the past year the car occasionally had automatic gear shift delays that were not consistent and were tolerable because the transmission recovered.
Auto is equipped with the 4 cyl 6 speed auto trans. The transmission will shift into neutral when rounding a corner . Also the transmission will fly into neutral when shifting the transmission from low to drive . I have been close to being rear-several times when I pulled out on the highway and moved the shift from low gear to drive and the transmission goes into neutral and stays in neutral. Several times I have had to pull off the road to keep from getting rear ended because the vehicle stays in neutral. Dealers have no fix for the problem and apparently this problem is widespread in these 6 speed auto trans for the year 2011.
While pulling into a parking lot, the car suddenly stopped going forward. When I pressed the accelerator, the engine would rev like the car was in neutral, but it would not go forward. I put the car in park and turned the car off. Started the car and put it back into drive, but the same thing happened. The only thing I was able to do was go in reverse. I had to drive in reverse down the street to another drive entrance and back in and park. The car had to be towed to the dealership. The transmission was replaced.
2011 chevy Malibu - . Takes a long time for car to shift into gear when accelerating from a stop or making a turn. I have also had some close calls with cars almost hitting me, (like another person wrote). Brought it to the dealer and he could not duplicate it (of course). I am experiencing it more and more and will try another dealer.
