Check Engine Light On problems of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

We got a check engine light on. Checked for codes and p2097 came up. Vehicle has some hesitation when accelerating.

I was driving down the road at 55mph - 2-lane road (4 days ago) when a warning came across my dash that stated "reducing engine power". It slowed my vehicle down a mininum of 20mph and wouldn't pick up speed. The check engine light came on. I pulled over and turned off my vehicle. I restarted it and the check engine light stayed on. I was able to make it to an auto shop and they hooked it up. It read a p2138 code. If I had been on the highway, this could've caused a devistating crash. I found where gm extended the warranty and this fix should not cost me anything - I will see when I take it in tomorrow.

I was driving on a secondary road going about 45 mph when all of a sudden my car decelerated to 20 mph in a matter of seconds. The dash showed me an "engine power is reduced" message and my check engine light came on. I was able to safely pull off the road and was able to get home safely. I turned the car off for about 10 minutes and restarted it and it seemingly is fine now but this is terribly unsafe. To my knowledge there is no recall or any word on this from gm.

I was coming to a stop at a traffic light. I received an alert on my dash "reduced engine power" and my check engine light came on. I just experienced the check engine light on and reduced power alert on christmas eve: 12/24/20 this was so scary on highway and had to drive on the reduced power with my flashers on and terrified as car's wizzed past me! I was worried that I would breakdown and couldn't get home. I did make it home and was shaken by the experience. I have a 2016 chevy Malibu and the dealership quoted $350 to fix it. It is still there as didn't have funds to fix it. Dealership said it is an issue with gas pedal not reading in system correctly. This is a huge safety risk because it happened while driving on highway going 60 mph, and it dropped speed to 35 mph! this is so dangerous! especially because it happened at night in a secluded area. This is super scary for a woman driver thinking I was going to breakdown at any moment. I have been driving uber since covid and no work available in my regular job. Since I don't have my car, I can't drive to make any money to fix it. I was unable to work on uber's biggest night of the year on new year's eve, losing out of a $500 night. Gm should pay to get this fixed and for lost revenue due to unable to work.

I own a 2016 chevy Malibu premier I bout it on the same year with 3 thousand miles in it ever since I been having problems with the car in 2017 the car had over 10 thousand miles in it n water was getting inside the vehicle so I took it to dealership n they sed it was a weather strip of the back window second time same year it was an electrical problem of the seats 3rd problem it was suspension now this is 2020 November 27 n now the car has 74 thousand miles in it n the car shakes wile on drive mode just on drive mode n the weirdes thing is that there's no check engine light nothing everything sims to be wrong I need help I do think it's factory made.

The day before the car's dashboard said that the car's power assist was turning off. The next morning as I was going 75 miles per hour on the highway the car said that engine was reducing power and speed reduced to 45 mph. The check engine light suddenly went on and it was a very dangerous situation that could have killed me.

I get routine service to my car & my engine is clicking, loudly. The check engine light continuously goes on & off & I was told by Chevrolet service department that they could not even run a diagnostics to see what the problem is because the check engine light was off when I got to the dealership. Sometimes �service battery charging system� will illuminate but it too picks and chooses when to illuminate. Sometimes it shows �battery saver activated� and this is the third battery I've purchased! the entire car will stall/shut off but the green light is illuminated to show the car is on but when I accelerate it won't budge! dangerous considering my car could stall at anytime and cause a collision. I've nearly gotten t-boned twice coming out a gas station entering a road because my car stalled in the middle of the street while traffic was coming from both directions! a service man at the chevy dealership asked me was I experiencing issues with my auto start/stop when I told him what was happening. Yes! my car picks and chooses when it wants to do it. And when it does �restart� the entire car reboots, the locks re-click, lights flicker, it'll be in drive and roll backwards until the ignition turns over! chevy or at least the service techs are fully aware of an issue and won't fix it. Sometimes the car just won't start, all the power will go out. What happens when I'm out & the entire electrical system and engine won't start after at least starting 20 minutes prior! I've already got new pistons, a new alternator, 3 new batteries & get the routine maintenance. I have a mychevy account & every month my diagnostics report, shows an issue! if I'm in an accident & my child or I are injured, who is liable because my car decides to malfunction in the middle of a busy highway? Chevrolet for neglecting to service my car because the freaking check engine light isn't on!.

The car was driving at a high speed and then suddenly slowed down dramatically. An error code, along with the check engine light, came on starting reduced engine speed. The car is not able to speed up at all. This has happened several times. While driving on the freeway, which is very dangerous.

While driving on the freeway or the streets the vehicle looses power. A dashboard light comes on along with the check engine light and the dashboard says engine power is reduced. This causes the car to drop speed and lose power. It really unsafe as twice I've almost been rear ended.

I was driving on the highway, speed limit was 70mph I was going that speed then out of nowhere I got the check engine light and a notice on my dash appeared as �engine power reduced� and my speed drastically declined I was almost rear ended by a semi truck, I had people in the back of my car and with an impact from a trailer we could have been seriously hurt or even killed. This a reoccurring proble with Malibu's from the year 2016-2019 gm knows about the issue but has done nothing to resolve it. This issue not only puts the driver of the vehicle in harm but others around as well. The problem is the throttle body response sensor which is about a $300-$500 fix which is not an cheap fix. They need to be held responsible for this because one day this could happen to anybody with this type of car and it can kill someone.

Check engine lights blinks on and off car defects as if it will cut off found out its the piston and throttle body from fieldsman Chevrolet now im out of a car with no loaner car because they are backed this car was called for recall for these repairs.

On Jan 6 2020. I was driving a 2016 chevy Malibu, when the check engine light and engine reduce power light came on. I pulled over and let the car seat for maybe 10 mins. I restarted the vehicle and begin driving again (it was pulling normal). About 3 miles down the road I was making a left turn and the car stop pulling and the reduce engine power light comes on which leaves me in the middle of a intersection section causing a vehicle coming from my right side to slam into the side of vehicle deploying all of my airbags and making on-star assistance come on. In the result I have neck, back and side injury from the impact. Which in the result I'm getting sued because my car stalled in the middle of the turn going left. My car was totaled out and my insurance don't want to pay the full value of what I was leasing it for. Which I have to come out the pocket with expenses. After reviewing the "engine reduce power" and doing my research I come to find out it has been numerous complaints. I could have lost my life!.

So I feel like there should be a recall if I had to read a lot of stories that are similar to mine. My vehicle was driving fine and then I get a signal on my dash as I am going up a hill saying that "engine power reduced" and my check engine light came on. I'm in the middle of a street trying to get to work and I could barely get up the hill. Thank goodness there wasn't a lot of traffic that time of day. I managed to make it to a store to get it checked out and the said something about a throttle unit replacement. It is supposed to control my acceleration. This is quite dangerous to keep happening and nothing be done about it when I have seen multiple complaints on it. I just wanted to share my story too and hopefully something can be fixed.

For the past two years my vehicle has been to the dealership 6 times for the same issue. On multiple occasions the car while traveling both on the highway and in the city the check engine light comes one and it goes into reduced power mode. On the highway this can be a huge issue. After multiple �fixes� it's seems to be ok. However on 10/3/2019 while sitting at a red light the auto stop feature kicked on. Nothing new there however when I took my foot off the brake the car completely stalled and the doors all unlocked. After about 10 seconds it started back up again. Now the auto stop doesn't kick on at all and the car will not let me use auxiliary power. The car is only 3 years old and shouldn't have this many issues. When I take it to the dealer they put it on the computer and say nothing is wrong. What is it going to take for gm to fix this issue in these Malibu�s? is someone going to have to be injured?.

Takata recall, check engine light comes on and a reduce power indicator said reduce engine power, the car goes from 70mph to 40 mph on the interstate putting you and your family in grave danger.

At cruising speed on the freeway, approximately 65 mph, the car jerked and lost a significant amount of power. The check engine light illuminated and the warning "engine power is reduced" displayed on the information panel. The car continued to lose a significant amount of power until I was able to get out of a separated toll lane and to the breakdown lane. After restarting the car, it was able to again gain power. Over several days, the car would go in and out of this mode and the check engine light went off and on multiple times, it again lost power on the freeway, lost significant power while driving up hills (dropping from a speed of 55 mph to below 20 mph within a minute). Cars behind my car had to move out from behind me and I had to pull in to the breakdown lane on several occasions to let other cars pass me as I was unable to maintain a legal speed. This problem was assessed by quirk Chevrolet and determined to be caused by the throttle position sensor in the gas pedal and the engine control module. Quirk identified that these components are not covered under the powertrain warranty (despite the fact that they are necessary components in the powertrain) and that the total cost to replace these would be approximately $520 plus the cost of a rental car. They also were not able to locate an available gas pedal/throttle position sensor assembly by the end of the business day and were unable to identify a timeframe for the length of time this would take to complete because of this missing part. They also identified that they would not be able to reset the ecm until this sensor assembly was completed.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the engine power reduced warning light illuminated, the vehicle decelerated and came to a complete stop. The vehicle was turned off and restarted but failed to accelerate above 30-35 mph. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the viva Chevrolet located at 5915 montana Ave, el paso, TX 79925, where the technician diagnosed an unknown computer failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Check engine light came on, code given is p1101 intake air flow system performance test failed since dtc clear, history dtc, test not passed since power up, warning indicator requested. Car runs fine for now, code reset and reactivated hour or so later. Remote start does not work.

I got up the next morning and got in the car and the message was gone and the car was running great so I called the dealer and they said it must have just been a glitch or something and that I would be fine to drive it since it was running fine now. Car ran fine for months with no issues after that then one day I get a check engine light with a message that says engine power is reduced and service stabilitrak while driving through the city. I pulled into the nearest autoparts store and got them to check my codes which came back with a misfire on cylinder 1. Again called the dealer and they said I could drive it in since it was just a misfire, that it would just run rough. I stopped for fuel on my way and the message and engine light were gone when I started it again. Called dealer again they were clueless and said they couldn't really do much if the issue wasn't there. Ran fine for months again then got service stabilitrak message and brakes acted funny as I was pulling into work. By lunch time the issue was gone again. Couple days later, reduced engine power message again on the highway to work, turned around and limped it home while stopping at parts store and 11 codes came back. I got it to the dealer and they told me I have a broken piston in cylinder 1 and they couldn't rebuild it but they would put a new engine in it for $9,000.

Around 50,000 miles sensor on throttle pedal went out and caused my car to stop accelerating with my kid in the car in the middle of the road driving. Next at 74,000 my 2016 chevy Malibu lt 1. 5l turbo has a cracked piston. I believe recall 17019 stochastic pre egnition should be linked to my VIN. First service stabilitrak comes on with a glowing icon showing a car with wavy lines underneath it. Then code reading p0301 (cylinder 1 misfire) went through the checklist, spark plugs, coils, fuel injectors all fine. Checked the compression of cylinder one and it's gone. Cylinder one has no compression it doesn't work. I saw this is happening to many people with the 1. 5l turbo gm tried perfecting and still doesn't know how to fix besides replacing the piston or motor. Both times I was driving my car. Once I noticed the stabilitrak and check engine light I went home and left the car in the garage in hopes there wasn't damage. I researched and found out gm knew this whole time and no one told me. Their trying to say my car isn't on that recall but I strongly believe that my car is exactly that 17019 stochastic pre egnition recall.

Santa paula Chevrolet of santa paula, California was made aware of the failure and replaced that battery but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. On star was contacted and diagnosed that the engine and transmission throttle failed to function properly. The failure mileage was unknown. Ad.

When starting to progress from a stop, the Malibu will not accelerate for several seconds, and then when it does go it, surges forward. It occurs intermittently, but increases over time. This all occurs with no check engine light. We have taken it to the dealer several times were they have kept it for a combined total of well over a month, but claim that without a check engine light, there is nothing that they can do. It appears to happen predominately during the spring/summer months, and is less frequent during the much colder fall/winter months. We are being told that there is nothing that can be done from the manufacturer and the dealer. My wife is refusing to drive the car for fear that her or our children will be involved in an accident if the car will not proceed once in a busy intersection.

My horn doesn't work sometimes, check engine light comes on and off, radio stop working sometimes,when turning on the heat or air conditioner it sounds like sparks coming from the inside of that area.

Engine power is reduced message popped up with check engine light while driving car down the road. Car acceleration did not work there was no power and would not go past 20 mph. Pulled into traffic and was almost ran over by another vehicle due to this problem of sudden loss of power. Went from working properly to being able to push accelerator to the floor with no response care wouldn't work. Took immediately to dealer and service department says they can reproduce the problem all they did was change the oil. I took a photo when I pulled up to chevy service dept at peters Chevrolet in longview texas so why can't they reproduce the problem or why didn't they hook it up and check it instead of oil change first? not happy with this safety hazard I'm now driving my children in.

September 2017 stablitytrack warning came on after weeks chevy told me they were putting a new engine in. Went to pick up car 10/4/2017 check engine light still on left car, service said it was a cracked connector and replaced. Dec 22 today engine power is reduced alert comes on and can't go over 20mph was on the highway.
