36 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

I own a 2004 chevy Malibu. The anti-theft device continually causes my car to have a delayed start. I have had to put so much money into this vehicle that fixing it to the tune of $500 is out of the question. My dealer told me that even fixing the vehicle does not guarantee the replacement parts will not be defective. My car recently stalled in a dark parking lot and I had my two year old baby with me. Does chevy have no shame for selling products that they know are dangerous? if I would have been attacked and my little girl hurt it would have been their fault. It really doesn't make much sense to have a defective anti-theft device does it? will it take a wrongful death suit to make them be more responsible? I know they are aware of the problem because a CO-worker of mine has a 2002 chevy Malibu and she had the same problem, two years later they are still selling the same crap. If I can afford to buy another car again it will definitely be a foreign car. The following information is general because this happens all the time, not just on one date!!!!.

39 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/14/2009

I have had several problems with the passlock ii / theftsystem in my 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. This is a recurring issue, that seems to happen 2 to 3 times a week, sometimes more, in the past week it has happened twice. When this happens it results in me having to turn my ignition to on for ten minutes, and wait patiently in hopes this will let me start my own car. I think this is something that needs a serious inquiry by someone. I have contacted the dealership with no avail. I am hoping someone will help the people who are being stranded in that dark parking lot alone at 3am. Please do something about the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu theftsystem/ passlock, please.

Failure Date: 10/05/2008

Passlock anti theft device (or system) in 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. Passive anti theft comes on and refuses to let the automobile start if there is even a hiccup in the starting process the car will not start unless left in acc for 10 minutes. This has proven to be a dangerous situation. I received a call that my daughter was in an accident and I was needed. Went to start my vehicle, there was a hiccup in the process and my automobile refused to start for 10 minutes. In an emergent situation with absolutely no control over your vehicle is a very dangerous situation. Luckily in this case the 10 minutes did not make a difference in the outcome, however in an emergency 10 minutes could prove to be life threatening. I repeat - to not have control over one's own vehicle is not acceptable at the least and extremely dangerous in an emergency. Gm wants $500 to replace the necessary module - which will fail again. $500 to regain control over my own vehicle is not acceptable. Gm should be required to place a switch within reasonable access so the owner of the vehicle can determine whether or not this dangerous equipment can be enabled. Again - this situation is not acceptable and gm should be held accountable.

43 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/26/2008

This is a recurring issue with the anti theft system on a 2001 chevy Malibu. On several occassions, the car simply refuses to start because due to a glitch in the system, my own car thinks I am trying to steal it. As the car ages, the incidents grow more and more frequent. I have been told thre times from the dealership I purchased the car from(after 3 $75 towing fees) that there is no way to disable this and there is nothing that can be done about it. I work extremely hard for my money and feel incredibly deceived by gm for not recalling this issue as I can read on several different consumer blogs that I am not the only one to complain about this issue.

46 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

Yesterday I was driving my 2005 Malibu on a country road, and made a slow turn in an abandoned parking lot at an intersection. There was a hardly visible low lying ditch, and though I was going around 5-10 mph, the right wheel caught in the ditch, and the car stopped. There was hardly an impact, it felt more like hitting a curb, but the lower front right plastic bumper caved in and caused serious damage in the radiator. I don't know why a major manufacturer thought that plastic would in any way protect a radiator--it might as well have been on the front of the car. Are there statutes against a front plastic bumper? to have this much damage with so minor an incident seems preposterous. Has anyone else had a similar experience? the plastic mounts cracked and came off.

50 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/09/2006

My name is steven paul I am currently renting a unit from alamo car rental and have noticed something that my possibly lead to an accident while driving. If the driver is wearing sandals or any shoe that does not extend pass the ankle on the right foot (accelerator pedal foot) and the driver is pressing the pedal about 1. 5 or 2 inches from the floor it is possible for the foot wear to get caught on the right side of the accelerator foot under the center console trim and the driver not being able to move the foot to the brake in time of an emergency. Please look into this, if you need more info or explanation, please call me at 618-960-4696 or just email me back. 51 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

I was changing a flat tire on my 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when the jack gave in under the weight of the vehicle and the car came crashing to the ground.

52 Unknown Or Other problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/19/2005

8/19/05 - while driving home from work, the alternator bracket on my 1999 Chevrolet Malibu broke with a loud bang, causing my vehicle to lose power steering; the air conditioning to stop, and the engine to overheat. I was able to safely pull my vehicle into a wendy's parking lot, although it took all of my strength to steer the vehicle. 8/20/05 - I had my vehicle towed to an independent repair shop where it sat from 8/20/05 to 9/19/05 waiting for a new alternator bracket. It was this shop that determined it was the alternator bracket that had broken. Weekly calls to the repair shop were answered with, "we're still waiting on the part". A phone call to the local Chevrolet dealership service dept. Revealed that the independent shop had ordered the alternator bracket through them. I was then told there were no alternator brackets for my vehicle in all of ky or TN and that there was a national backorder on them. 9/19/05 - I had my vehicle towed to the Chevrolet dealership to await an alternator bracket thinking that if the dealership had to look at my vehicle sitting on their property, they might be more motivated to get it repaired. 9/20/05 - my vehicle was repaired with a salvaged alternator bracket from another Malibu and the alternator was replaced. . . No mention on my repair receipt if the alternator was new or rebuilt. While I'm am grateful for the resoucefulness of my dealership's service team, I am concerned about a used alternator bracket in my vehicle. If these alternator brackets have a tendency to break, who's to say that this used one in my vehicle won't break while I"m driving down the highway at 65 miles per hour? I am concerned that the alternator brackets for Malibus might be defective, causing engine shutdown and damage when they break - not to mention loss of control of the vehicle when the power steering goes out. I am also concerned that new alternator brackets don't seem to exist when service departments need them.

Failure Date: 07/05/2003

I purchased my vehicle at major automotive group and since I have purchased my car I have had many problems with it. When I went back to the dealership and asked to exchange the car for another one, I was informed that I could not until my title was received. I have had the vehicle since July 5, 2003 and still have not received a title as of yet. I have been back and forth for many repairs and still have not seen any difference. The car still remains the same and I only have one more month left of my warranty. I really feel as though they are waiting for the warranty to be up so that some action could be done.

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

I have own three chevy Malibu a 1998, 2002 and I just got a 2003. However, I noticed that gm has removed there cruise control light off of the dash board when you turn it on. The other two Malibu's I own had a dash light come on to let you know the cruise control is on. But the 2003 does not it only has a little light on the cruise button on the steering column and its hard to see during day light. I think this is a very dangerous as you may not know if your cruise is on which could cause a accident. Could you please look into this for me.

65 Unknown Or Other problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

Harsh winter of 2003 with unusual buildup of snow/ice in north carolina has resulted in failure of the passenger side windshield wiper pivot housing and/or related parts of my daughter's 98 chev. Malibu. Chevy dealers refuse to help repair as a recall, because the recall is limited to geographic regions, and closest state is our nearby neighbor west virginia (where, of course, our nc residents naturally travel regularly during the winter for the sport of winter skiing). Part cost has been quoted as $137, though I haven't yet determined if I have the tools/capability to repair myself. Unfortunately, this causes the vehicle to be currently not drivable in inclement weather.

2000 chevy Malibu. Antitheft system randomly engages and will not allow the car to be started. We have to key lock and unlock the doors, have had to unhook the battery(which we just replaced in hopes that that was part of the problem) , and let the car sit for ten minutes in hopes that it will reset itself. At 2:30 in the morning, and the neighborhood I work in, this is unsafe.
