The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was smoking and leaking oil after the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.
Gm recall no. 90047 - why does the remedy not address the reason behind the oil leak. Under so-called hard braking, as reported in the recall notice, where is the oil supposedly leaking from. Rather than treating the symptom, the source of the oil leak should have been addressed. It is against environmental pollution efforts to allow for such a defect to continue. I'm sure it would have been more costly to gm to fix the cause of the leak, but given the large number of vehicles with this engine all leaking, the proposed spark plug channel swap just doesn't make sense. I am requesting a re-assessment of the proposed solution and suggest epa also be consulted considering the environmental impact this has. I would welcome a response.
