Steering Gear Box Sector Shaft problems of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Three problems related to steering gear box sector shaft have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Gear Box Sector Shaft problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2001

Steering column pops out of shaft which makes vehicle wobbly when driving due to malfunction of intermediate steering column shaft, and gear box coming out of vehicle. Dealer contacted.

2 Steering Gear Box Sector Shaft problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

Consumer exprienced a loud rattlling from steering column. Intermediate shaft had to be replaced. It was the second time to be replaced & no reason why it had occurred. Dealer said they have replaced 12 in the last year & they have started to keep some in stock.

3 Steering Gear Box Sector Shaft problem

Vehicle drifts to the right when driving at highway speeds. Dealer has replaced intermediate shaft, and done 2 alignment jobs at 9,000 miles and 16,000 miles. However defect still occurs.
