Our chevy Silverado truck, 2000 make of year, has ignition issues. It is hard to get the key to turn in the ignition, requiring us to either jiggle the ignition plate or turn the key to the other side and insert it that way. We have noticed that we can take the key out of the ignition and the engine will continue to run. We have asked our gm dealership in the past about repairs, and were told it would cost us $2000 to fix. We weren't too concerned about it until we saw the controversy with the chevy cobalt (a vehicle we also own), and now wonder if the chevy Silverado can also be added to this list of recalls or repairs. Our cobalt does have the same issue as the others, and we have asked our daughter, who drives it in new hampshire, to take it in to get the modification.
: the contact stated the electrical gauges are intermittently failing and giving incorrect readings. The gauges work at start up in the mornings, however after the vehicle warms up, the gauges malfunction. The dealership has been contacted. The dealership personnel informed the contact they could determine the problem.
All gauges erratic function. Never know when I run out of fuel. Only can reactive fuel reading, some of the time is to be on the road, take foot off of accelerator, drop into neutral and drop it back into drive; fuel gauge may read for a while. Hazard warning switch will not cancel to the home position and if it does cancel the relay keeps clicking. Turn signal remains unaffected for signalling a turn.
While applying the brakes, the vehicle jerked and vibrated uncontrollably. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic determined that the front rotors rusted, and needed to be replaced. The brake problem was continuous front and back since 5958 miles. Chevrolet would not replace the brakes. The calipers were leaking, the security light had come on three times when the vehicle was in motion with the key, the reluctor ring/sensor was out of adjustment caused by rust, and the driveline made a clanking sound. Gm had been made aware of the problems.
This occurred on Saturday, 1/31/04. Vehicle make: 2500 Chevrolet Silverado, 3/4 ton, 6' bed, 6l engine description: I had to make a tight right hand turn from a gas station onto the main road in syracuse, new york as opposing traffic was coming at me. After I completed the turn and started to head south on the main four lane road I immediately found out that the power steering was quite rough. Quite rough was not the word for it as there was no power steering! about a block from that point I had to brake and found out that there were no power assisted brakes on the vehicle. No idiot lights came on at all and this presented quite a serious problem especially with the snow plow attached. Both the fluid in the master brake and power steering cylinders were right up to normal levels and the serpentine belt was relatively new and intact! trust me that I am not happy about this at all from a vehicle that has only 30,000 miles on it and has been plagued with various major problems throughout its somewhat youthful history including two (2) full brake jobs to date. I'm just thankful that no one was hurt including myself. I want this letter to be relayed to the Chevrolet zone manager and I would like their input on the issues that have been presented. As a consumer there is no way that both the power steering and brakes should have gone at the same time, plus, the fact that there were no indications of a major problem from the message center or dashboard. There very easily could have been a different ending to this story especially with the type of winter weather and road conditions we have been having as of late here in upstate new york.
While driving at 20 mph, the consumer noticed that the dash board lights were simultaneously dimming and brightening. The door latches were also popping up and down. The consumer noticed smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. When the consumer opened the hood, the entire compartment was on fire. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire. The manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.
The interior of the truck caught on fire and the vehicle burned up after being parked for 9 1/2 hours. It was undetermined as to where the fire originated. Chevrolet claimed that there were no problems with the electrical system, air bag, or system diagnostic module (sdm).
Dt contact states fuel gauge works erratically or not at all. Contact feels it may be a short circuit. The contact would not have the work done because the dealer would not warrant the work.
When the button for the dome light was pushed, the headlights went off. Dealer was aware of the problem. Ts the incident caused the consumer to run off the road.
