Two problems related to headlight switch have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
- the contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While traveling 45 mph the vehicle went over a bump, which caused the vehicle's headlights to turn off. He tried to turn the headlights back on, but they wouldn't power back on. He turned on the high beams and they would work, the problem was with the low beams. The following day he took the vehicle apart and he found that the wire that feeds the multi function switch and the combination switch had melted due to a t wilt function in the insulation and had turned black, which was due to high heat. It could have caught on fire. He did the repair job himself, but he believes that it could cause a fire on another vehicle and that it should be recalled. The current and failure mileage was 131,000.
When driving 70mph turned on headlight switch in fog light position, and put switch back on, automatic headlight position failed. All lights on instrument panel failed except clock and gauge lever. Automatic headlight switch suppose to stay illuminated while vehicle is running. Took to dealer, and dealer could not duplicate problem. Also auto lighting system control panel switch is extremely hot.
