Brake Disc Pads problems of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Six problems related to brake disc pads have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

Noticed that all the front brake pads have very little wear and even the rotors are not being worn (either the entire surface (lf inner rotor) or just on part of the rotor surfaces). The back brake pads were worn down and had to be replaced and seem to be wearing fine. Is there a problem with the front brakes not functioning on these chevy trucks? the front brakes are definitely not functioning properly.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Ongoing brake problems with rotors and pads. The initial failure of all rotors and pads were replaced by dealer 11,505 miles. Rear pads have failed again at 17,589 miles. This vehicle was in for a state safety inspection and failed so again I will be in contact with dealership.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving at 45 mph he felt a pulsating sensation and all of a sudden he began to apply pressure to the brake pedal. The vehicle stopped but felt as if it did not come to a complete stop. He then pulled over and could not locate the failure . The vehicle was then taken to a dealer. The technician states there was normal wear and tear on the vehicle. The dealer stated they will not repair the failure due to no warranty on the vehicle. The contact states the vehicle had 23,000 miles and the brake in the rear rotted out including the rotors. The brake pads slid out from the rotors. A technician that located the failure stated that the brakes should have not gone out at 23,000 miles. The contact paid to have the vehicle repair. The failure mileage was 23,150 and current mileage was 23,200. Updated 10/23/09 the rotors were pitted and a piece of the rotor was missing. Updated 10/26/jb.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

We purchased a new 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that currently has only 11,475 miles on the vehicle. I was informed during a safety inspection that the brake rotors and brakes need to be replaced (complete) and had commented he has experienced "many failures" such as mine. Failure due to porous casting of rotors causing pads to become unusable. Servicing dealer that inspected failure listed as rust? the repair will cost in excess of $700. 00. In researching the failure I found interesting documentation that the failure of the rotor material has been an ongoing problem with Chevrolet products and many claims have been filed with the NHTSA. I am aware Chevrolet has paid claims to others with the same conditions and I feel the NHTSA should look at this problem before there are fatalities caused by this material failure. Repairs have been made by Chevrolet at not cost to me however I was not entitled to the original parts since cost to me was waived. Now we can only hope the new rotors have a better service life then the original set.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2005

2004 Chevrolet Silverado rear rotors and disc pads found to be defective. One year after initial vehicle inspection the technician determined that the pads were bad and the rotors were rusted and pitted. The truck only had 15900 miles at the time of the inspection.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2004

Outside disc brake pad on right rear wheel wears out prematurely causing the brake disc to be damaged. Rear right side axle is alloed to float from side to side in the axle housing allowing the brake pad to be loaded by the weight of the triuck during normal operation. This loading causes the premature brake pad wear.
