5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

I was driving the vehicle at normal speeds and I have had this vehicle for about 6 months and never have had a problem with it. All the sudden I get a message that says "service air bag". I took the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed it and they said that the truck needs a new front drivers side impact sensor that went bad. This truck has never been in an accident and the airbags have never been deployed. They told me that if this repair does not get done, if I have an accident the airbags wouldn't deploy.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2011

Speedometer stopped working while driving creating safety issue. Since then other guages have began creating issues. Called dealership recently after being told by a friend their was a recall and dealership told me the recall had expired but I was never informed of such. Air bag light also continues to go off.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Speedometer stopped functioning. It displays I'm driving @ 120 mph and gets stuck there, when I'm only going approximately 30-40 mph. This is ridiculous that there is no recall on this malfunction as I see there are plenty of compliants with same issue. How can I drive safely without knowing the speed limit I'm going.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

The problem is the fan on gm trucks burns out. We were told by the service dept that the wires were burned up and that this required more parts and service. Needed resistor, connector and blower to repair. This is a potential fire hazard which is not being addressed by gm. Apparently this is an issue that many vehicle owners have experienced but since no one has been killed I guess there is not reason to mandate a recall. We were told by the service dept. That many vehicles are being brought in for service because of this problem. This should be looked into. Our vehicle has 38000 miles. We have a friend who lives in NJ that had the same problem within a year of purchasing his new truck.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2011

Speedometer not showing correct speed.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2010

I also have a 2005 Silverado an the speedometer is stuck at 120 it has gone down as far as 60 but when you drive it pegs out and remains there. There were no warnings just happened around 82,000 now at 86,000 and 6,000 miles out of warranty. I feel that this is a safety hazard because I don't know my speed but I am lucky enough to have been given a gps to do that. I looked at gm website but they say I am over mileage for repair and I don't have the money for the repairs myself an feel this should be remedied by the manufacturer since it is a well know problem of thiers and this deffective equipment.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. I kept smelling an odor of something burning but could not find where it was coming from until recently when my fan motor stopped working. I had been having problems with the switch not working in all positions. I called the dealership to inquire about the price and availability of the switch. The parts dept. Informed me that it was most likely the fan resistor or the plug because they have had several that needed replaced. When I looked under the dash I found what had been causing the smell. The resistor showed signs of being overheated and the wire harness was burnt for approximately 6 inches. This is a fire hazard and it is only a matter of time before someone is either injured or killed due to this defective resistor/plug.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Speedometer fails to register actual speed of driving -- will show 120 when driving 70, 90 mph when driving 30mph, 15 mph when stopped at a light. Makes highway driving hazardous because I am prone to driving slower than traffic. Also concerns about accuracy of the odometer because of this problem.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

Vehicle speedometer is inoperative. At highway speeds reading is 0 mph, or speedometer is stuck above 65 at a dead stop.

Odometer stopped working as well as the blower motor control switch on my 2005 chevy Silverado, 4. 3l v6 4wd truck.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2008

My speedometer reads about 20 mph faster than I'm actually driving, and reads 20 -25 mph when at a dead stop. I know this was a warranty fixable item on the 03 and 04 models, why not on the 05's?.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

I was driving along when the cab filled with smoke and a burning plastic smell. I saw smoke come from under the passenger side dashboard. The blower motor resistor harness had caught fire. I was able to put it out with damage to only the harness and resistor. It was replaced under the extended warranty I had purchased from gm. Fast forward to may 9, 2010 and 50,000 miles later, the same thing happened and gm corporate told me there was nothing they could do even though this same model vehicle has been recalled in canada for the same problem. I was quoted $300. 00 for the repair. On may 10. 2010, my dealer called and said he received an e-mail from gm stating that gm was in the process of offering a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty on the blower motor and harness repair. Have not received any notice from gm yet but dealer said they would fix it no charge.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2008

Speedometer failure.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

At around 37,000 miles the speedometer started sticking and around 45,000 miles it completely went out and has been stuck at 120 mph ever since. I took it to the chevy dealership and they told me it would cost around 800. 00 dollars to fix. I called and complained to gm customer service, at which time they did nothing but told me to take it in and get it repair at my expense. I haven't had the money to have it repaired so far so I have been driving without it. I think chevy should recall the instrument clusters and fix the problem at their own expense.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2006

Heater blower connector fire.

23 Electrical System problem

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

2005 Silverado pickup. Heater fan motor resistor melting wires too a point that the wires couldn't be touched without being burned. Warranty expired but problem exists. Told dealership that I thought it was a safety issue. If combustible materials were to come into contact there would most likely be a fire.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2005

While the driving down the road , I pressed the release button on the steering wheel to adjust, then the engine cut off, all the panel gauge icons lighted up and the digital display for the "p r d r l" cycled across. I had to put the car in neutral to restart the engine. Once I got home, I was able to duplicate the problem while idling in park on the drive way. This is a new Silverado purchased June 24, 2005. Will take in to dealer ASAP.

26 Electrical System problem

This is a failure of all autos. Why not require all auto makers to hook up cars lights to their windshield wipers? that way if wipers are on lights are on.
