Side/window Air Bag problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado

2008 Chevrolet 1500. Consumer writes in regard to passenger side airbag inflation issue and severe rusting to the entire frame.

My dash has cracked on the drivers side and at the passenger side airbag. My truck was parked with me and my wife sitting in it. It was crunk and when it happened it was very violent causing us to worry that it could have caused the airbag to deploy and cause injury to someone.

The contact's son owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the side air bags deployed. The vehicle was not involved in a crash. The contact stated that the failure sounded like a gun shot. The contact spoke with a dealer and was informed that the failure occurred once before, but the vehicle had not been inspected. The failure and current mileages were 59,000. Updated 6/20/12 the consumer stated the seat belts locked up and now they have to be replaced. Updated 06/22/12.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while stopped, the driver’s side air bag deployed inside of the steering wheel and the seat belt pre-tensioner activated as if the vehicle were involved in a crash. The activating of the pre-tensioner injured the contact’s shoulder during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the air bag sensor module and pre-tensioner needed to be replaced. No repairs were performed. The failure and current mileages were 41,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. Neither the driver nor the passenger side air bags deployed. The vehicle was destroyed and the contact sustained head and back injuries. The contact did not call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 61,000.
