Five problems related to brakes failed have been reported for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

Vehicle was in for a recall 1 week prior to recalibrate a possible error in the vacuum assist pump to brake system. This week, stopped at a stop sign on a highway, posted speed 45 and the brake disengaged and vehicle lurched forward. Called dealer, service tech says known issue, gm has issued an extended warranty to this model to repair/replace the part known to be faulty. Tech said gm should have mailed a letter saying that if, and only if the brakes failed or became hard to press, bring vehicle in. If there had been a pedestrian or vehicle close, I would have hit them. Bringing vehicle in after the fact would be too late. My vehicle qualified for the free repair so it is being repaired now.

2 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

Power brake failure pedal is difficult to push takes longer to stop vehicle brake pedal seems higher have to break with 2 feet.

3 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2019

I was towing my travel trailer and the brakes failed,I totaled the camper in front of me. The notification letter from gm said even in the hard pedal situation the brakes are still in safety specs, not with a 7,000 lb trailer behind the truck. I feel gm should cover the costs of damage and update the latest notification letter to include letting the people who tow know they aren't going to stop in time. Also gm pulled the data from my truck, the airbags did not deploy, and didn't inspect the vacuum pump or the hood, bumper, grill or fenders all were thrown away. The investigator that pulled the data said it was incomplete yet gm says it's not their problem there were no codes present at the time of the accident. Appalled vincent p oneil.

4 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2019

The vehicle in motion, at low speeds (under 10 mph), the brakes fail to slow or stop the vehicle until the brake pedal is fully depressed which unexpectedly requires more effort than braking under normal conditions. Even with the pedal fully depressed, it still does not stop the vehicle within the expected stopping range.

5 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

Brakes failed when driving slowly in both forward and reverse. This occurred following a period of extensive highway driving. Brake pedal was extremely hard to push and resulted in no braking of vehicle. No trailer towing was involved.
