Parked truck at outside stall and went indoors. After about 20 minutes I heard noises and went outside. Found the whole truck was engulfed in flames. By the time the fire department arrived 6 minutes later the fire spread to two additional vehicles. The heat melted and consumed everything except the frame. The fire investigator suspects the fire initiated due to electrical failure and generated from either the driver side dash board or left side of engine. The damage was too destructive to pinpoint exact cause.
Safety concern- potential trailering accident!!! it appears that Chevrolet/gm has changed the wiring in their vehicles so that electric trailer brake controllers no longer illuminate the trailer brake lights when the electric brake controller is operated independently from the vehicle brakes. All brake lights work fine when the foot brake is applied but no brake lights illuminate when the controller overide is applied to operate the trailer brakes independently. There are times when trailering that one only wishes to use the trailer brakes to settle down swaying or on long down hill grades. 2012 vehicles are not wired so that brake lights also work off the controller override switch. I have been towing for over 26 years and brake lights have always worked both on the foot brake and controller override brake switch. This is a potential accident waiting to happen. If one applies the trailer brakes alone with no brake lights illuminating, this could cause another vehicle to slam into the back of the trailer and tow vehicle causing a crash. Chevrolet states they cannot connect the trailer controllers to operate the brake lights as it would back feed power into the electronics of the vehicle voiding any warranty on the vehicle. Trailer brakes lights only work as connected to the vehicle wiring when stepping on the foot brake.
Excessive oil consumption - truck runs out of oil every 2500 miles. Change it regularly. No leaks or blue smoke.
Tachometer, speedometer and temperature gauge failures.
My 2003 chevy Silverado goes into gear with out pressing on the brake, also the truck will go into gear with out the keys in the igintion. The e-brake is also defective, the e-brake does not hold the truck. My 2 yrs old son was sitting in the truck on 9/20/2011 when the truck went into gear. I live on a incline my truck rolled down the hill while I was chasing the truck truck on foot, the truck finally came to a stop when it hit a 98 Toyota tacoma which was parked in the drive way accross the street. The e-brake was set , the keys were not in the truck, the truck was not running! my son could have killed himself or someone else due to the fact the truck is not safe!.
#1. Vehicle accelerates when letting off gas, even while going uphill the vehicle will accelerate. You can go up a steep hill without touching the gas. Brought the vehicle to the dealership they replaced, the throttle body, gas pedal assembly. They reinstalled the original parts and told us that this was normal. We drove other 2011 chevy Silverado's which did not do the same thing. The dealership told us that all the 2011 chevy Silverado's accelerate on their own. #2. There is a clunking noise from the rear when driving over bumps. The dealership said this is normal backlash, and did not do anything.
Rear fuel tank strap was rusty. Broke off going down the road at 55 mph. Did not cause an accident.
2007 Chevrolet Silverado classic 1500; reduced engine power comes on and engine slows way down no matter where you are. Almost was in big wreck on interstate. Evidently gm doesnt want to do anything about it. Have read many reports on internet about this error message and gm's inability to fix it or even claim to fix it. This is a very bad safety issue and someone is going to get killed. Gm has already shown, by many reports, that they do not intend to take responsibility for this engine problem. From all the reports that I have read, the problem never gets fixed. We just keep throwing money at it and we have to keep coming back. If they do not fix this issue, I will be suing gm for this issue and make someone take responsibility. It is highly dangerous.
In June, 2011, I began noticing my antifreeze levels were dropping slightly. There were no noticable leaks of antifreeze anywhere. I attributed it to evaporation & added coolant. Over time the truck started using more & more antifreeze. A friend of mine noticed a puff of white smoke coming from the tailpipe. At the time I didn't really think anything of it. Last week while driving home from work after finishing up a "b" trick job (11pm), I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine. It smoothed out after a few miles of driving it. The next day it happened again ( I work 26 miles from home) again it smoothed out & I was just grateful I got home safely that night. By this time I knew there were some serious issues & decided not to drive it again. I began researching the issue on line & found others that were experiencing identical symptoms. Turns out the problem lies with the cylinder heads in the engine manufactured for gm by castech. According to other people & by gms own admission, a faulty, weak material was used to build the cylinder heads. Over time the material wears away causing porous cracks & the antifreeze seeps into the oil system polluting it, causing significant damage to the engine. (by this time most extended warranties are up). The antifreeze mixes with the oil & is emitted out of the tailpipe as exhaust. This is why no traces of antifreeze were found & the reason for the white puff of smoke. Gm issued a bulletin #06-06-01-019b in June 2007 informing repair technicians on where to look for the damage. Through other peoples experiences, I am finding the engines were ruined in 90% of the cases & gm claims no responsibility. In my case I am driving a friend's vehicle waiting on word from my mechanic as to my options. These repairs are costly. Up to $5000 !! this is not from normal wear & tear this is a manufacturing defect & I feel a recall should be issued.
2004 chevorlet Silverado. Unit #1 was traveling west in the center lane on ir80, ohio turnpike. Unit #1 left rear trailer tire blew out causing damage to the trailer left fender.
Air conditioning just quits. Check fuses okay. Took truck to dealership and they charged $656. 27 to fix a short in the blower resistor resulting in connector melting and blower failure. Newer truck and asked dealership if under warranty or if recall, informed me there was not. Got on internet at home and found several recalls on 2007 chevy Silverado's and informed dealership through emails, about recalls and that is when I learnt our truck was manufactured in canada. Called dealership where we purchased the truck in texas to inform them of recalls and they said it did not apply to our truck because it was kilometers and we have mileage, do I sound like I am bubba? recalls are from transport canada and numbers are 2011074-exact problem our truck is having; and 2009291 deals with airbags(which I have not even attempted to address because of the run around I have already experienced. Canadian trucks should not be sold in America if recalls are not going to be honored. Fire possibility and airbag deploying are very serious safety issues. Called gm or Chevrolet, have all emails of personnel I have contacted in regards to this issue.
Reckless driving - I was driven off the road on purpose by an aggressive driver. I was a car and a half in front of the driver when I yielded to the car on my left prior to condensing into one lane. The vehicle behind us speed up to block me from merging and drove me onto the shoulder. He was driving an olson construction vehicle with missouri plates 2hg 221. Looked like he was in his 40's and had blond hair with tatoos.
The air conditioner will not come on to clear window of fog below 40 degrees . This is dangerous and has caused me to almost go off road as no visibility present. The windows will fog up so quickly and the defroster can not clear windshield fast enough . The air conditioner is automatically controlled instead of manually.
Have lost operability of passenger rear door lock, and the other three doors on my crew cab Silverado have begun to have the issues of not locking/unlocking when set by system or on demand by person driving the truck. This doen't allow for the doors to lock/unlock after vehicle is moved to and from the parked position. This could be considered a safety issue.
Total fog up of windshield and all windows. This only occurs below freezing as noted by the information center warning of the possibility of freezing roads. The yellow a/c on light in the fan speed control knob is not on, and when the a/c button is pushed the yellow a/c on light flashes three times and goes out. There is no configuration that will activate the a/c and thus mitigate the fog! in speaking with the service manager at the dealer I am told that this is a common problem with these models as there is no way to turn the a/c on manualy and that below freezing the a/c is automaticly selected off by the sensors! it turns out that the a/c button only serves to shut off the a/c if desired. The only operational way to work around this is to turn the defog full hot open the windows and pull over until a viewing hole can be cleared. This clearly is a systemic safety problem with these models!.
This is totally dangerous . Why hasn't this been fixed . I seen so many people complaining about this problem . This abs crap is worthless ! when coming to a stop the breaks totally lock up and you can not stop . I almost ran through a store front window . The dealership and gm itself is totally un helpfull . All they want is your money to fix them and then to have the problem come back a few years later . This is so expensive no one can afford to fix this problem . I wonder if they care when someone gets killed because this problem they just push off . My 2001 Silverado is now doing it again . I won't buy their junk anymore . What a crime they have on their hands and no one is doing anything about this . Where is the government on this ? this is so wrong !.
Cruise control worked intermittently. Had to replace the brake switch on the brake pedal. This switch does not activate on "light" brake pedal pressure. It os designed to work on firm brake pedal pressure, which can be hazardous when using electric trailer brakes.
At temps starting around 35 degrees the defroster stops working and the inside windows fog up leaving no visability at all. So far the only way to clear it is to open windows and wait. Not good when its cold. Moisture builds up like a steamy shower on a mirror. I have read lots of complaints about the same issue and if there isnt a recall to fix then there should be lawsuits filed against Chevrolett and this web site for not taking action. Or are we all supost to wait until people start dying in accidents first?.
My husband has a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck that has been having a problem with the speedometer. At first the speedometer would excelerate without applying pressure on the gas and there would be no change in speed. Then after a few months of that going on the speedometer does not work at all. I've been in contact with a few owners of Chevrolets trucks or SUV's and I was suprised to hear alot of them had to pay a large amount of money to replace their speedometer due to the same problem.
There is a rattling transmitted through the steering wheel and heard and felt by the driver. It is especially noticeable during low speed driving as well as when turning or driving over rough terrain. It has been identified by gm in a technical service bulletin (TSB number 06-02-3-0056, issue date 1-20-06, cause inadequate lubrication on steering intermediate shaft) for various years of gm trucks. I believe this is an accident waiting to happen and a recall should be made.
In December of 2007 my 2003 Chevrolet extended cap Silverado truck's speedometer started jumping and getting stuck; it gave inaccurate speed while driving and while parked. Jan 08-an auto repair service charged me $108. 98 for a speed sensor, $75. 74 for a connector, and because of the time span to fix, $86. 95 for a new battery gone dead. The speedometer continued to jump and get stuck, but I was unable to pay to get speedometer replaced. By Nov 08 ? symptoms got worse. While driving on the interstate, at first got stuck at 85mph when going 60, then it climbed to 120mph, then it went past 120mph and is now permanently stuck on "r" on the drive gear panel (straight down). My warranty is expired and I cannot afford to fix the problem.
6 way power seat track has developed approximately 1 inch of free play noticeable when braking or accelerating. When I go to the internet to research the safety problem, I note that others have experienced the same problem. I feel that this should be brought to your attention.
Speedometer has become erratic on a 2004 chevy Silverado @ 47,000 miles. Started approx. 5/14/07. Does not work right mainly in the afternoons - speed indicates 0-10 mph whether doing 50 mph or 70 mph. Contacted chevy dealer on 5/25/07 and have not heard back from them. I feel as if this is a safety issue that chevy should repair and recall.
In attempting to purchase a 4x4, lwb, 2006 chevy Silverado-hd truck from bartow Chevrolet, they refused to furnish me with written proof that the recalls listed for this vehicle were not in the lot of recalls listed on the internet. Further, the gm supplier discount office and the Chevrolet marketing department also refused to furnish this written proof. Bartow Chevrolet told me that since I requested this written proof, I couldn't trust them and since I couldn't trust, they were not going to sell the truck to me; because I, as the consumer, wanted written proof that this vehicle was safe to drive and would not cause harm or death to me or anyone else in this vehicle. To me, it was a fair consumer request to ask bartow Chevrolet to provide written proof that this was a safe vehicle to drive, that all of the recalls had been fixed, and that anyone driving or riding in this vehicle would also be reassured of being safe from bodily harm and/or death.
I own a 2002 chevy truck that had the tailgate cables recalled. The same cable material was used to hold up the spare tire but was not recalled. After only 4 years of service this cable failed releasing the spare tire into traffic after doing damage to the back of my truck breaking wires and plastic parts. Thank goodness no one was hurt. I had to retrieve the spare tire from the ditch. I have not repaired the damage as of yet because I feel it should be fixed by gm. This seems to me to be a more serious problem than the tailgate cables.
2000 pick up, brake recall right front brake pipe and ensure sufficient clearance between pipe and the body cross sill. Over the past six years the consumer has received 7-8 different recalls on his vehicle. No accidents have resulted. The consumer would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the truck.
: the contact stated the cd player in the vehicle over heated, resulting in hot air blowing through the air vents. The air conditioner or heat was not in use when the hot air was blowing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and no repairs were made.
Speedometer started sticking and gradually got worse, now the speedometer is stuck. I called the dealer and they said they just send them off to a speedometer repair shop all the time. I called some speedometer repair shops and they said that the problem I am having was quite common for the 2003 chevy truck.
Abs brake module failure on 2001 chevy Silverado 4x4. Need to replace abs module at $900. Could lead to accident in inclement weather. . . Summer right now.
While driving at 10 mph the spare tire cable broke, causing the spare tire to fall of the spare tire holder. This could have potentially caused an accident if there was a vehicle driving behind the consumer's vehicle.
The truck will not start. Called gm they said it was in the passlock system. . . That it has to reset itself. . . Well its been a week and what the heck kind of security system keeps you from driving your vehicle????.
Contact states: the throttle control closes. It was replaced when it first happened. The car had aprroximately 15000-20000 miles. The throttle control closes about every six months. This usually happens when trying to accelerate after foot is off the accelerator or a stop. When the vehicle is taken to the dealer mr. Billy pays for it to be cleaned.
I recently had a problem with the heater motor in my 2004 chevy Silverado. The heater motor began to make a squealing noise. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it . Mechanics looked it over and I was told the bearing in the heater motor was seizing up ,although the dealership didn't have a new heater motor in stock they were able to get one in a matter of hours. My truck was fixed that same day . I must say I was very impressed and happy with the service I received. Thank you.
The abs braking system makes a grindind noise and does not stop the truck properly. I have driven past driveways and almost went through a stop sign into oncoming traffic. I work for the city so getting to work to plow is important, but I cant trust the truck to get me there safely.
I've noticed a number of recalls for my truck but I only received two (2) recall notices in the mail. One was for the front brake line and the other was for the straps for the tailgate. I am still waiting for the other notices to arrive. If they don't and something does happen causingi njury or death to myself and/or others the manufacter is going to have a really big law suit on their hands. It is not my job to find out about recalls it is yours and the manufacters job to notify me and others of these problems.
2003 chevey 2500 hd crew cab duramax. The speedometer sticks and will not return to 0. When the temperature is really cold, all of the gauges stop working. No accidents, and no consequences except for the cost of repair. I have spoken to service shops in canada and here in minneapolis, and both say it is a fairly frequent problem. In fact, GMC has opened a shop in California which deals only with the instrument cluster. Why is this problem not fixed my GMC, if it a problem they know exists.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton pickup with 29000 miles on it when the rear brake calipers froze up and ruined my rear brake pads. Chevy says that this is not under warranty because of poor maintenance on my part. I did everything required in the owners manual. I have talked with three of my friends who have the same pickup and their rear brakes failed at lower mileages and were covered and the dealer also installed a special brake dirt cover to the rear brakes to help with the problem. I contend that this is a design defect in the rear disc brakes and can expect to replace my rear brakes in another 18000 t0 24000 miles. Would you look into this matter for me.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) since this is the only place I can find on your site to send a complaint to,my issue is with all the Chevrolet recalls that are out there for my truck I have never gotten a letter or a card or any other kind of notice from the manufacturer. I have had the truck since new and have had to come here to print everything out and take it to the dealer to get it resolved. So I guess when they sell the car or truck they are not responsible any more to notify the owners? I have a Chevrolet 2003 z71 4x4 [xxx] in my opinion this is not very good company to consumer relations. I do thank god for this site being here as this is the only way I can seem to keep up on the issues/trouble/recalls that are out here to find what's wrong with my truck to keep it on the road and running right. At this time they are now ordering me a new instrument cluster because of the stepper motor that went out and is registering over 120 mph at this time and im not even driving it, the dealer said that he had no recall for this and I proceeded to tell him I have the paperwork for your site and then he was still going to charge me for it except I sort of blew up in the service dept. [xxx].
The blue indicator light for high beams was on. The light was very bright. The consumer almost ran off the road as a result. The dealer told the consumer to put a piece of tape over the indicator light.
Vehicle fire-shut truck off and was going into my home when I heard a pop noise turned and looked and the engine compartment of my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was smoking and flames were shooting out from under the hood. Truck was totally engulfed in flames with in minutes. Ts.
Consumer states while turning on the vehicle's head lights the dashboard lights does not come on. Consumer states it's hard to tell what gear you are in. Dealer notified. Ph.
Windshield wipers stop working without warning.
2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**770840.
Truck quits anytime dealer replaced dist. Capped 5 times in 18,000 miles bbb would not help quit make ink payments truck reposess.
Dimmer switch would get hot when used. Dealer notified and informed consumer that nothing could be found. Consumer stated dash panel dimmer switch wheel and surrounding area gets hot when the wheel is turned to its lowest setting without turning the panel lights off.
Cold, unheated, outside air leaks into the passenger side footwell when the truck is driven on cold days. This problem has been addressed by the dealer many times and they have made the situation better by wrapping foam around the heaterbox and airconditioning ductwork but your legs still get very cold on cold days whille setting on the passenger side. They've just told me that there is nothing else they can do unless gm sends them a redesigned/improved part that corrects the problem. I find it unacceptable that a $30,000 truck cannot provide a comfortable environment for its owners while driving down the highway on a cold night and it seems that gm may not be willing to do anything else about this. While discussing this issue with the dealer service tech. He mentioned that many of the Silverados, tahoes and yukons have this same problem and all the dealer can do is wrap the heater and ductwork with the foam as they've already done to mine until gm decides to actually fix the problem.
Dashboard has cracked all across from heat underneath it, causing it to be hot to the touch, the dealer is unable to find the problem. Nlm.
Had to replace rear u-joint. The dealer won't fix the slip yoke that has not been normal since they replaced the u-joint even though I've been there 3 times for that. My main complaint now is that the running lamps seem to go out too often. I see every other Silverado (& maybe sierras?) on the road with one of them out!!! even though this doesn't cost that much, there should be a recall since there's thousands of gm pickups that have this problem. Thank you.
I have not experienced an actual failure of a firestone tire; however I feared for my safety because my tires were made at the decatur, IL plant, the safety of steeltex r4s tires is now under scrutiny, and I have personally seen failures of two of the exact, same tire - one on a school van and the other on a rancher's pickup. It is highly probable that since the failures (tread separation and blowout) occurred in such a small town, they were not reported to NHTSA. I would not risk my safety, the safety of my family, or the safety of others on the road, so I replaced the firestone tires at my own expense. I would not risk becoming another statistic while waiting for someone to determine that the firestone steeltex r4s tires are unsafe. I believe that firestone should reimburse me for at least a part of the expense of replacing their highly questionable tires. (your form asked for all the letters and numbers of the tire size, but does not provide space for them to all be entered. My tires size is lt245/75r16, load range e. ) (dot number: vd11 b1c tiresize: 245/75r16).
This is a systematic issue related to the keyless entry system. In my opinion, the system implies that it will be possible to unlock the vehicle quickly and from some remote position so that entry can be accomplished immediately upon reaching the vehicle. This is, or could be, an important safety issue relating to the welfare of the person trying to exercise the remote unlocking function. However, the remote transmitters can and, by personal experience do, become unsynchronized with the vehicle locks. On the date in question, both my transmitter and the transmitter carried by my wife failed to unlock the truck. It was necessary to use the key to manually unlock the vehicle. While there was no danger at that time, it caused my wife great concern that she could be "caught" in a situation where there actually was danger. Such a "panic" situation would, at best, be excerbated by an unsynchronized remote transmitter; and, at worst, could contribute to a situation resulting in her bodily harm. The owner's manual for the Silverado explains that the remotes will occasionally need to be resynchronized and gives the procedure to be used. Unfortunately, the manual is usually located in the locked vehicle and not available for reference during a time of need. In addition, it takes a few seconds to recognize that the remote did not work, so it gets tried several times before resorting the manual key-entry. In a panic situation, time is at a premium. While none of the foregoing relates to an unsafe vehicle operating condition, in my opinion it could definitely be associated with the wefare of a driver trying to quickly enter the vehicle. In that sense, it becomes a vehicle safety issue.
Vehicle has clunking noise somewhere in rear of drive train when stopping and starting. Have taken it to chev dealer 4 times. First time they replaced the rear spring assys. Noise returned. Next time they lubed the drive shaft coupling. Noise returned. Next time they lubed the drive shaft coupling again. Noise returned. The last time they lubed the rear leaf spring assy. Noise still there. Also reported a rattling noise in the steering to meier chev in sullivan mo. They didn't find any thing wrong. Still have loose noise in steering.
Any time there is a dry surface or bump in the road or rough terrain, the abs is activated. Consumer has contacted dealer and manufacturer.
Truck less than a month old, been in shop over 9 days. Dealership still does not no how to fix problem.
No summary listed for this vehicle.
This vehicle I have described is a lemon. After many attempts by two dealerships this pickup is still messed up. Have contacted Chevrolet several times and even have a claim#990501858. No one with Chevrolet wants to deal with this problem. We have requested manufacture buy-back two months ago. We are no closer to date than we were when we started this process. I am looking for help at ever point trying to get out of this vehicle. There have been other problem than were stated in this form. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
