7 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/09/2005

I own a 2000 chevy Silverado truck. It has 57,000 miles and is in excellent condition. On or about July 09 2005, the power lock mechanism for the passenger door stopped working. The drivers side door still worked. I thought it might be a blown fuse but after checking all fuses determined that wasn't the problem. I felt that my key to the doors would allow access to the passenger side but it would not open. The key did work on the drivers side. The slide bar on the passenger side door also could not move thus rendering that door in a constant state of being locked. I became very concerned that a vehicle could be made with power locks and not have some system to manually allow the opening of the vehicle. If the vehicle were in an accident and the only way out was the passenger door the occupant could face serious injury or even death. I sent an e mail to general motors customer assistance and explained the problem. I wanted to speak to an engineer to find out why a vehicle would function like this but was told that they could not honor my request and I needed to bring the truck to a dealer for repairs my stance is I do not trust some dealers and that wouldn't determine if the design has a major flaw. My vehicle might have been fixed at my expense but perhaps another owner might be having similar problems due to faulty designs which is a severe safety risk. I am requesting this matter receives a quick investigation before a serious injury or death occurs. General motors does not seem to be concerned. I do not want to have general motors to repair this truck until an independent study is performed. I will not allow any other passengers in this truck.

8 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/28/2005

The contact stated doors will not open from the inside. The locks were electrical, and the window had to be rolled down to open the door from the outside. Has been in contact with the dealer. They informed him that he would have to order another handle for the vehicle. The vehicle was not under warranty and no repairs have been made. The outside door handles malfunctioned. When pulling them out to open the door and they stayed out. When getting into the truck and closing the door it locked automatically. With the outside handle out the door will not unlock electrically or mechanically from the inside. The only way to get the door unlocked was to open the window and push the handle in. If the window failed to open the contact would be trapped in the vehicle. Manufacturer refused to fix or replace the handles.

11 Door Latch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/19/2004

I have serious concerns about the interior door handles on the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pu trucks. The location and general shape of these handles make them very easy to accidently open while vehicle is moving. This vehicle is equipped with auto locks , however, these safety locks don't seem to always function. There are certain situations when a door can be unlocked and the automatic locks does not relock. Y wife was injured on the incident date. She had removed her seat belt to retrieve items from floorboard when her purse strap snagged on door handle and caused the door to open. She fell from a vehicle moving at approximately 35-40 mph. She suffered a closed head injury and clavicle fracture.

Rear passenger doorts on chevy Silverado extened cab do not lock completely in temperatures below 30 degrees until heat is distributed in the cab. Have been unable to get an explanation from any general motors experts or resolve the problem. I contend that it occurs because both the top & bottom latch's are made of plastic/pvc material which presents a poteial safety hazard if weight is applied against the doors, hit by another vehicle etc. The indiacated date below is only one of several days since 2000.

Complaint received via e-mail. "we have a truck which we brought brand new and have had it back to the dealer for vibration ever since we bought it. " they have done nothing, but balance at the tire. 21 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/20/2000

Problem #1 truck has a "vibration" since purchase date. Dealer checked the balance of the tires 4 times and found them out of balance, tires were then balanced and rotated. But the "vibration" still existed. Service manager stated that this was a problem I would have to live with. Manufacture states all trucks have "vibration. Problem #2 the rear door will not latch after being opened in freezing weather, the front door will not close completely as it latches to the rear door. The doors can be closed completely after the interior has been warmed up enough for the locks to thaw, about 5 miles of travel with the heater running.

22 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/20/2000

Truck has a "vibration" that the dealer can not correct. Feels like a tire out of balance. Tires balanced and "vibration" is not as bad, each time tires are balanced they are found to be out of balance. Service manager has told me that "I would have to live with this". Manufacture says "all trucks have this vibration". The rear left door will not close in freezing weather till the truck has been ran long enough to warm the interior, (about 5 miles),since the front door latches to the rear door it will not close completely. Service manager at dealer states he has not heard about this problem.
