Three problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Frame and it's crossmembers rusted out. Frame has holes and cracks. Will undoubdtedly fail completely (break) if use is continued. Seems to be a common problem with this and other similar models.
We have had several rust problems with this vehicle from brakes lines rusting through, gas tank straps rusting through. Now we have fuel line leak and our torsion bar has cracked due to rusting through and they will not repair unless the frame is replaced which is not cost effective due to the amount of rust throughout the vehicle. Unless frame is replaced it is unsafe to drive.
The frame cracked on both rear frame rails between the leaf springs.
