5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2016

I have a 2003 silverado and upon arriving home I felt my brake peddle go to the floor and I couldn't stop and backed into my trailer, I got out of the truck and noticed a huge puddle under my driver side wheel. After investigating I found that the steel hydraulic line had rusted & broke. I am disabled with 4 auto immune diseases and cannot afford to put it in the shop so I ordered the part, replaced it and proceeded to bleed the line and found that 3 other steel lines had holes in them or had rusted all the way through. I also have rust all under the truck. I will have to replace the two front support braces as they have rusted all through. At $120 each. So from front to back all the steel lines have rusted. I was blessed to have had this happen in my drive. Had I driven another mile or so I could have been killed. I now have a fear of driving. Being disabled it is taking me several days to repair my vehicle, and still have one line to replace. I purchased my silverado brand new and I live in kentucky so I don't have a great deal of road salt or sea salt. I have owned Chevrolet products my hole life. Prior to this truck I had a 1989 silverado purchased new and prior to that I owned a 1971 monte carlo handed down to me and none of these vehicle had any problems with rust like that. This should not be happening to vehicle with this few of years.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

Rear driver side brake in ruptured while pulling a loaded trailer. Luckily it was at a slow speed. This could have been tragic or possible deadly for me and my children if I had been on winding back roads on had a fully loaded trailed behind me.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

Break line rusted out. Couldnt stop.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

On April 11, 2015 I was driving my 2003 Silverado 1500 to work. While driving across town I approached a stop light. My breaks felt very soft and had almost no resistance. While at the stop light my vehicle continued to creep forward very slowly into the intersection. Luckily, the light turned green shortly thereafter. I continued approximately 1 mile with no need for slowing down and arrived at my next turn. I went to depress my breaks and again they were very soft. Just as I was almost slow enough to turn my foot went completely to the floor. At this time the service break system light came on all of the alert tones began. Luckily I was going slow enough to be able to coast into a parking lot and come to a stop using what minimal braking power I had left. Upon inspection I found that my reservoir was very low. I knew something was wrong because I just had all of my fluids topped off within the last 15 days when I took it it because I had 3 broken header bolts. After work, I checked the reservoir and it was totally empty I inspected the visible portion of the lines to find that one of them had corroded to the point of breaking (leaking all the brake fluid) and the rest were extremely corroded also. Overall, I am very disappointed with the performance of the vehicle. This will be the 4th time this year it has been in the repair shop for a costly repair. Since I purchased the truck I have taken very good care of it including cleaning all of the salt off in the winters after every storm and avoiding driving near the beach. I have taken all actions to keep the vehicle running good. I am glad that I did not find a need to stop short this time because I feel very confident I would have crashed and been injured.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

Was coasting down a hill and went to step on the brakes. The peddle then felt very soft. The truck proceeded to s top after several feet longer than normally. The next time I stepped in the brakes the peddle went to the floor with very very little resistance. The truck had to be manually downshifted to come to a stop. Had to limp the truck home and only lightly use the brakes.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

I was driving home from work, luckily I live 4 miles from my job. I had brakes at the stop light I drove for about 1/4 mile and went to apply brakes my peddle went all the way to the floor, I had absolutely no brakes. Somehow I made it home, I opened the hood my wife applied the brake and I had pin hole cracks everywhere and brake fluid was coming out of them. I had the truck towed to a mechanic he said the lines were all totally rusted out. I have read that gm has used sub-par metals on the undercarriage of some vehicles.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

While using the truck to remove a root ball we noticed that the brake pedal was going to the floor. No brake or warning lights were showing on the instrument panel. Our mechanic replaced four brake lines due to rust, corrosion and leaks. We are extremely thankful this happened while working in the back yard and not when traveling down the interstate towing our 3000 pound boat! after seeing all the reported problems on the internet I cannot understand why there has never been a recall by general motors.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

Just left home and was driving about 1/2 mile from home. Came to a traffic light and went to brake for a red light. The truck started to brake and then my foot went down to the floor while pressing the brake. My pickup did not stop and had to go through the red light. Luckily, I was able to honk and warn the other cars going through the intersection, that I couldn't stop. I had to downshift and use the emergency brake to stop and pull over. I found that the brakes ruptured in two different spots. Both front and bake break lines ruptured at the same time.

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

I was backing out of a parking space when I found I had absolutely no brakes. Repair mechanic said both front and rear brakes are rusted out. I had to be towed to a repair shop.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

I was driving my 2003 chevy silverado down the road and when I went to slow down my brake pedal went to the floor after getting pulled over into a parking lot I inspected the lines and saw that they all had busted and were all very rusty I took it to the mechanic and he stated it wasn't worth fixing due to the excessive rust on the frame and gas lines it would cost more than the truck was worth.

Coming to a stop at the bottom of a hill and the brake pedal went to the floor, was able to roll to stop before I went through the intersection. 21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

While waiting at a stop light with my wife and newborn, I noticed the brake pedal went "spongy" and had no more resistance to the pressure my foot applied to it. I pulled into the gas station at the same set of stop lights with my transmission being my only form of vehicle speed control. Thanks be to god for keeping my family and others on the road safe that day from the potential devastation that could have taken place with such a critical failure in the mechanics of this vehicle.

2003 Chevrolet silverado brakes. The abs kick in at low speeds on dry roads. A very soft pedal and sometimes the pedal will go to the floor before stopping. Poor braking on chevy silverado k1500. Soft pedal since new. Garage kept with only 23,000 miles and rear rotors rusted out. When new, chevy mechanics said soft pedal was normal. Rarely driven and must be extra careful if pulling a light trailer. Just had rear rotors replaced (over $300) and still poor brakes. These should have been recalled. . .
