The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that the speedometer was displaying inaccurate readings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they discovered that the internal cluster was faulty. The vehicle was repaired at the cost of $529. 79. The manufacturer stated that no compensation would be provided because there were no recalls available. The failure mileage was 111,582 and current mileage was 111,600.
Driving down the highway speedometer indicated 57 in a 70 mph zone so I accelerated to get up to speed. Climbed ever so slowly to 70 when I realized tach at approx. 3000 rpm and very quickly gaining on traffic ahead of me. Got off accelerator and speedometer went down to 30. Stayed there for a minute or two then dropped to zero. Hasnt worked since.
I have a 2004 chevy silverado and the speedometer keeps failing on it one day it quits at 40 or 60 then somedays it quits at 120 or don't register at all now it seems to have quit all together I have not seen it work in a couple weeks , after seeing all the complaints about this same problem I believe that gm should recall these problems.
Speedometer and other gauges in my 2004 silverado have failed and no longer work. Told the fix is 600 dollars???.
I own a 2004 chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. The speedometer started malfunctioning around 90000 miles. It would work but not read correctly. It got worse and worse. Now very very rarley does it work properly. Most of the time it reads incorrectly sometimes it doesnt move at all. Sometimes it is all the way at max and sometimes it stays on 0 and sometimes it is stuck somewhere in between. The truck now has about 135000 miles on it and everything I find says it will cost between 300 and 500 dollars to get it fixed. I have researched and found that it is probably because of faulty instrument clusters that gm knows about and wont recall. I dont think it is right that I have to pay for their faulty parts. It is very unsafe not being able to know how fast you are going.
The blower motor resistor in numerous general motors vehicles has been known to short out and potentially cause fires. This has been made more visible by a recall in canada by transport canada (transport canada recall # 2011074). I have had to replace the blower motor resistor in my vehicle and the replacement is already starting to malfunction. If this is recalled in canada it should be recalled in the u. S.
Speedometer gets stuck an does not accurately give speed. There are so many repair facilities for this there must be a problem with the manufacturer.
My speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado started sticking at 30mph this past weekend and is now stuck on 15mph and does not move. I have 72k miles on it. It has occurred to me from my research that this has been a problem with gm products.
Instrument cluster, speedometer, fuel guage, oil pressure, volt, tach, stoppes working or is very erratic.
Speedometer occasionally fluctuates from around 25 miles over the speed limit to 25 miles under. I recieved a speeding ticket for going 85 in a 60 when I had my cruise control set on 65.
I noticed, beginning in August, that the speedometer in my 2004 chevy Silverado 1500 began sticking when my speed decreased. Beginning in September the gauge began sticking when accelerating, and on October 24th, the gauge stuck at 45mph, even while to truck was in park not moving. I received a paper back in August about a class action lawsuit regarding this mal-function and I believe I will take that, along with some of the research I have gathered from this and other websites, to my chevy dealer and see what they have to say about it. This is a safety hazard and gm needs to issue a recall and protect it's customers.
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado has stopped working properly. When at a full stop, it reads 20 mph, and increases accordingly from there, so the proper speed is never displayed. It is a constant problem, and consequently the driver of the vehicle is never sure what the actual speed of the vehicle is. The parts have not been replaced at this time.
All gauges on my 2004 chevy Silverado 1500 have failed. Former class action suit was filed and won on behalf of truck owners. Suit only covers vehicles under 80k miles. Mine failed at about 100k. Discussed issue with gm and they will not fix the issue. Found on NHTSA web site others are having the same issue at about the same mileage. The cluster is a defective part installed in production and seems to be destined to fail. Part failure causes vehicle to fail emissions and thus makes vehicle unregistered. Part cost more that $500 to repair. No recall has been established at this time.
I have a 2004 silverado,z71,and it has 106,000 miles. I just recently had the 4x4 system repaired,at a cost of $802. 50. The encoder on the transfer case motor went bad, thus not allowing the 4x4 to engage. I am aware of three other similar trucks that have had the same problems. This is a very costly repair to someone like myself. Thanks. . . David.
The driver's side ac randomly starts blowing hot air in my 2004 silverado.
I have approximately 50,000 miles on my 2004 chevy silverado. My speedometer intermittent will fade from highway speed slowly down to reading zero. The speedometer seems to reset after the truck is shut off and sits.
Was driving down the road in my 2004 Chevrolet silverado and the speedometer quit working. Granted, the vehicle just hit over 100,000 miles, but would not expect this to happen. The needle sits below 0 mph and will occasionally jump to between 5- 10 mph no matter the speed of the vehicle. I am apparently no the only individual that has this issue on the same model vehicle.
Oil gauge not functioning, check engine light on, speedometer reading max 120 mph, mileage not calculating properly, cannot get info. Of clear warranty on above. Don't know true mileage at this point!.
Instrument cluster goes haywire, no way to determine speed of vehicle.
My 2004 silverado tachometer and fuel gage are totally erratic or not working beginning around 73,000 miles. I just have to guess what fuel I have in the tank and fill up frequently. Had a flat and could not remove spare, removed entire hoist system and found the secondary latching system totally froze up, so just threw the tire in the bed of the truck. Cost a tow to get home with a load of christmas gifts.
2004 Chevrolet silverado pickup truck with safety defect customer believes that it is a defect in the wires due to them catching on fire twice* the consumer stated the fire did not spread to other parts of the vehicle and enclosed 2 repair invoices to show the defect.
Instrument panel dimmer and lights, speedometer ,fuel, temp . . . . Do not work! very unsafe!.
Speedometer on 2004 silverado (chevy) quit working. Stuck at 0 mph for a while and then stuck at 30 mph when truck is off. When driving the freeway it reads 120 mph. Gm dealership says it is a problem with ipc and cost close to $400 to fix.
I have a 2004 Silverado 1500, the speedometer started reading lower numbers while on the freeway. At 70 it started to read 45, then 25, then 120. Very distracting and quite dangerous. Found numerous complaints about gm speedometers online. Needs a recall before someone gets hurt.
Speedometer sometimes reads 30 mph more then actual vehicle speed and sometimes reads less then actual vehicle speed. Speedometer sometimes never gets above zero though vehicle is in motion.
Speedometer just started malfunctioning. Setting still it shows 20-40 mph. When traveling 25 mpg, it shows 60 mph.
I have a 2004 chevy silverado and the speedometer stopped working.
Speedometer failed on 2004 chevy 1500 4x4 silverado dealer wants 500-700 dollars to fix not knowing how fast you are going is a safety problem.
Vehicle would lose antifreeze after 2 hour trips and knocking in the engine. GMC replaced the lifters in 2005. Nothing changed, 2007 had the antifreeze issue corrected by replacing intake. Speedometer went out at 90,000 miles. At 100,000 miles started losing oil pressure, had oil pressure switch replaced, at 111,000 miles bearings went out had to replace engine, this vehicle has been extremely costly for me.
Steering makes loud clicking noise it was repaired at 27,000 miles under warranty and needs done again at 72,000 miles.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet truck with 90,000 miles on it. Everything on the truck worked fine then without any notice the speedometer, tach, and oil pressure gauges started working intermittently.
As I pulled out of a parking lot I hit the gas a little harder than usual as to not get hit and my speedometer went to 180 mph and made the sound of gears spinning but not catching. It occurs everyday since it is a piece of crap and my oil and fuel gauges are gone as well. No repair, the recall is for up to 70,000 miles and since gm didnt notify me I went over before I found out. If it is against the law to speed then I dont see why it is legal for an auto manufacturer to sell a product that in effect condones and forces me to break the law.
