The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the braking system was slow to respond. Also, while driving at low speeds, the abs warning lamp illuminated multiple times. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the rotors and the brake pads; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
My 2005 chevy Silverado 1500 z71 has rear drum brakes. Due to shimmy when breaking in April 2008, we replaced rear brakes pads. When replacing them, it was discovered that they were originally installed wrong. They were then put together correctly and have had serious issues ever since. I have replaced brake pads and drums twice in the past year and a half. And still, it needs to be done again. I have had it to two different shops. The brakes seem to be consistently hot causing the shoes to fall apart.
When rotating my tires at 29,000 miles, I inspected the front disc brakes on my truck. I noticed that ton both front wheels. The disc brake pads were only touching the rotors in an area of 1/2" on the inside of the rotors. I took the truck to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had more than 25000 miles. I had to replace the rotors and brake pads at my own expense of $400.
