The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 5 mph, the wiring harness under the steering wheel caught fire and melted. In addition, the windshield wipers started functioning independently and the radio stopped functioning. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle in the middle of a residential area and exited the vehicle. The contact's husband used his shirt to extinguish the fire. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that a specialist would call her back. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact smelled burning wire underneath the dashboard. He looked under the dashboard and discovered a red, glowing, burning wiring harness, which he then unplugged. The blower motor resistor and the wiring harness failed. The current mileage was 68,357 and failure mileage was 66,000.

The fan speed selector wiring plug in the passenger side compartment started smoking when the fan was on speed 5. I got it turned off and looked at it when I got home and found the plug at the hot wire and the hot wire (red one) were melted. It happened at 37590 miles. Could happen to more vehicles.

9 Dash Wiring problem

: the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle lost the fifth fan speed on the air conditioner. Grey smoke began to come out of the vents, accompanied by a burning smell. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined that the wiring harness for the air conditioner had melted. There were no repairs immediately made.
