3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

Approximately, on or about [xxx], while driving our chev silverado, VIN as noted [xxx] ) started to experience transmission issues when I started from a stop sign and it started hesitating upon acceleration, jerking (gears not meshing correctly every time I had to stop). This included delayed engagement of gears, roughing shifting, slight slipping of gears, at times I could smell a burning like smell, (no leaks noticed on transmission anywhere and no warning lights coming on to warn about transmission problems). On Jan 23rd, 2026, I took it to b&f automotive had mechanic check fluid level and do drive test with me. Fluid found to be good. I could hear a slight sound like high pitch sound at times, only last few seconds randomly). Mechanic suggested I put some fuel system cleaner in and 90 octane to hopefully clear the system. Dealer also suggested this just as a suggestion though they found no apparent issues during prior service oil change I just had dealer do a 27-point inspection with oil change and they did not notice issues. Since purchase of truck in 2019, from dealer, all services have been done only by dealer (woodland motors). We had bought extending service warranty with vehicle. According to dealer, it just expired Dec 2025. I currently have appointment to have dealer inspect it on Monday Jan 25th, 2026, at 1pm concerning our complaint of drive train issues. Current mileage is approx. 63, 060 miles. On advise of mechanic, I called dealer right away and set the above appoint. I explained to dealer rep that this will cause me financial hardship as I am [xxx]. I do maintain a maintenance file with all service records since purchase. 4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

1. The vehicle's transmission does not operate consistently and safely. 2. At times, the transmission will not engage, and this has placed my family in very dangerous situations when changing lanes. 3. At red lights, at times, the transmission will not engage to drive. 4. When slowing in traffic at times , the transmission will not adjust to the slower speed, although the operator is applying the brakes. Then, without warning, the transmission will engage the higher speed, almost launching the vehicle forward suddenly, potentially into another vehicle or person, depending on the situation.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

While driving on highway 35 in austin, texas, my vehicle's transmission unexpectedly failed, which placed myself and my passengers in a precarious situation. The vehicle became inoperable on the side of the highway, necessitating that my passengers and I manually push it while traffic was actively flowing. This mechanical issue occurred without any prior indication. Through my subsequent research, I have observed that this particular problem appears to be a recurring concern with this model of vehicle.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2025

Bought the truck brand new, after 20,000 miles started vibrating. Took it to the dealership said it was the transmission shutters. They changed the fluid. At 50,000 miles did it again, they said gm came out with a thicker fluid, but it in there. Was fine for a while. At around 135,000 miles getting the vibration again. Also, at 140,000 miles cylinder 8 misfiring. Took it in and they tore it apart and said cylinder 4 and 8 lifter failure. Damage to cam and bent rods. Had to replace all lifters, cam and rods. Cost over $10,500, but had bg warranty used that additive every oil change so bg covered $4,000. I went by the oil life indicator on the truck to determine when I needed to change it, but apparently for engine for life you have to change it more frequently at 6,000 miles, so they wouldn’t cover that part.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2025

Transmission went out while driving the vehicle and left it stuck in the middle of the intersection we had to push it though traffic. It had no forward movement. Would only drive in reverse. No warning or anything just made a clunk and wouldn't move any further.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2025

See attached document for complaint.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2025

The transmission started to shutter at 94,000 miles. Gwatney Chevrolet quoted $7,500 for a new transmission replacement. Had an in independent shop quote $4,670 for a reman transmission. I have only towed 2,000 lbs at a time in the past. This is the 1st time towing a 6,000lbs camper. It was only driven 800 miles with the camper in tow. The vehicle only has less than 95,000 miles and my transmission is shuttering and has metal shavings in the fluid. Needing a replacement at this time frame and mileage is ridiculous.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2025

Transmission failure, I had to have the transmission replaced and no longer have it for inspection. I was on a one lane highway in franconia nh with guardrails on each side, and no phone reception. Traffic was trying to get by me including tractor trailers, we were horrified and couldn't get out. These 6l80 transmission in the chevy silverado, come to find out, have been failing for a long time. 2 of my friends lost there's also, all of us were between 100k-115k miles. The transmission shop I went to, and others I called said they can't believe there was never a recall, they get many of them. Zero warning, just quit. I take exception care of my vehicles regarding maintenance, always early, these are to expensive to repair when your on a retired budget.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

Hard jerking while driving clunks while driving shifts rough really bad when driving changes gears its an automatic stalls at lights runs rough jumps forward has no power at times brakes fail when stopping lunges when breaking dealership and manufacture know about this its been to dealership over 9 times same problem.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

I am having the exact transmission issue for this truck that has been recalled, but when I call to get it serviced, I am told "there isn't any unrepaired recalls. This issue is persistent and unresolved. Please look into this and potentially recall the transmission issue. This truck has constant shifting troubles form 1st to 2nd with shuddering.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2025

I was driving to work last Monday when my truck entered a lymph mode. It would only let me go 40mph, when I was on a road that allowed others to go 60-70mph. I had traffic behind me as well. As I made it closer to work, the truck would only rev up. It left me sitting in a median with traffic going past me. Thankfully, I was not hit. I had to cut the truck off, wait several minutes, then start it back up to limp it to a safe spot where I could have it towed. I had it towed to a transmission shop. Please note* I have done the regular transmission maintenance on this vehicle as well. This shop done a diagnostic test on it ($95 +tax). It was a complete transmission failure. They told me this was due to the torque converter. General motors, gm, programmed the transmission torque converter to kick on in 2nd gear which causes it to overheat practically everytime it drives. The same transmission shop said they rebuild 3-4 of the 6l80 transmissions a week. I have a 2017 chevy silverado with a 6 speed transmission, the 6l80. . . . . This is an issue that gm should be held liable for. The transmission rebuild will be $4500-4800 + tax. Thank you to whomever reads this. I could really use help. My email is [xxx] . Phone number is [xxx] . I can provide rebuild cost and receipts when needed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

I have lost my brakes when reversing, however I have good brakes when driving forward. The transmission is also slipping and the torque converter in the transmission is becoming very worn already. I do not tow anything with this vehicle, and I only have 73,411 miles on this truck.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2025

I own a 2017 Silverado 1500 ecotech v6, 6l80 transmission, 91500 - over the weekend, I started having an issue shifting from 3rd to 4th. I noticed the transmission was over 190 degrees, as high as 230 degrees, then cooling back to 194. When attempting to shift from 3rd the 4th, it will start, then return to 3rd. It will do so 4 or 5 times until eventually skipping 4th and going to 5th. This happens when the transmission fluid is cold, 80s or when fluid gets to 190+. I called the local chevy deal, who told me there weren't any open recalls for my VIN and that the diagnostics would be $190 which may or may not be a software update. They would not know until after the disanostics.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

Transmission and torque converter blew up. Rpm of truck was uncontrollable. Total transmission failure.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

While driving my vehicle, with around 85,000 miles, the engine suddenly began running rough and felt jerky and sluggish. This was concerning and potentially dangerous situation, as the engine failure happened while I was travelling at high speed. A sudden loss of power on the highway put me and other drivers at serious risk. The check engine light came on, so I pulled over as soon as I could safely do so. Shortly after, the light started flashing, so I shut off the engine and contacted the dealership service department. They advised having the vehicle towed in for inspection. Prior to this event, I had not had any issues with the vehicle nor had the check engine light come on. After looking into it, the dealership initially suspected a thrown rod but said they wouldn't know the full extent of the issue until they could tear down the engine. Upon further inspection, they determined that the lifters had failed and would need to be replaced. The dealership has performed all regular maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle. When I asked what could have caused this, they explained that it's a known issue with these lifters and engines - one that Chevrolet has experienced for years, even in models prior to my 2017.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal ticking sound while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the lifters were bent and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the transmission skipped while shifting to a gear, and the vehicle jolted and jerked. The failure had progressively worsened, and the vehicle was making an abnormal high-pitch sound at start-up. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission component failure, and the dealer informed the contact that it would be cost-effective to replace the entire transmission. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission downshifted with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle could not be diagnosed due to the check engine warning light not being illuminated. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for further assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

I am submitting a complaint regarding my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt. My truck currently has approximately 80,000 miles, and it has recently been diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership as needing a complete transmission replacement. This vehicle has been lightly driven and very well maintained, and I rarely drive it. Because of this, I am extremely concerned and disappointed that such a major mechanical component has failed at such relatively low mileage. A transmission should reasonably last well beyond 80,000 miles under normal driving conditions. The dealership informed me that the entire transmission needs to be replaced, which is a very costly repair. Given the mileage and the way the vehicle has been used, I believe this may indicate a defect or premature failure rather than normal wear and tear. I am requesting that general motors review this situation and consider goodwill assistance or coverage for the repair. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that it would be reliable for many more miles, and this issue has significantly affected my confidence in the vehicle. I would appreciate a review of my case and any assistance gm can provide toward resolving this problem.

21 Power Train problem

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

Not sure if it is a torque converter or the transmission there are no codes reading on the computer but multiple times when driving, I will lose all power in drive and it will take a few minutes to catch up before it goes back in the drive and accelerates.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

The six speed transmission 6l80 failed with less then 60k miles and before it's first service due at 72k miles, I have already had the transmission repaired so the original transmission components are not available for inspection. My transmission failed when I was driving across the coronado bridge in san diego CA. This bridge has no shoulders to safely pull over. I had my truck towed to cummings Chevrolet in national city CA. And they confirmed the transmission needed replacing. Yes the check engine light did come on but it was already too late to save the transmission.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

I spent 40k cash for my 2017 high country to find out gm great idea of afm and no good 10 speed transmission/torque converter was made with low quality and careless parts. I'm definitely getting me a lawyer to fix this [xxx] because all I've ever wanted was this body style but all they care about is money over quality. Gm and they're retail sellers knew about afw problems and sold us [xxx] anyway. They are saying that transmission issues aren't they're fault and actually getting away with that answer. Who's else fault could it be when it's the same problem with the same model. To be an american and get [xxx] by our own is getting old. If I can get sold [xxx] I can at least get a shovel with it. . . So I'm getting a damn good shovel/lawyer. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

Bought 4/2023 at 98326 mileage. At 7/23 major issues take place trying to drive. Taken to original dealer where purchased, at 102581. Had to replace the air conditioner and throttle body plus equaling over $3000. I had bought extended warranty at $3384. Now at 139000 miles the transmission is gone!!!.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

While driving to work on interstate i22 in new albany mississippi I suddenly noticed serging and my rpm gauge fluctuating , I immediately knew it was torque converter failure at 134,000 mostly highway miles, which is a very low amount for a truck that I really don't work or pull trailers, I can accept transmission failure around 250,000 miles but not 134,000 , upon research I discovered gm had a lot of issues with it's light duty truck transmission from this generation of truck due to substandard torque converter material.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2024

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2024

I have a tork converter that locking the transmission and causing the truck to down shift and sometimes comes to a quick stop when braking. I am afraid if a family member drives the truck it could cause them to make a dangerous move in on goin traffic. Or not stopping and hitting a person or another vehicle. It hits hard and stops while pulling the vehicle in on coming traffic especially when not exspecting it all of a sudden.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2024

The transmission in my truck completely failed on a busy road during rush hour. I was in stop and go traffic and after one of my stops the truck wouldn’t move luckily I was in the right hand lane and about 150 feet from the entrance to a parking lot and a stranger helped me push it to that lot. I had it towed to the dealership I bought it at the recite they gave me says “ transmission pump has failed and burnt clutches”. I have never pulled a trailer and only had 78,000 miles on my truck.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

The transmission lost every gear but 1st, 2nd. I was driving it down the highway when it lost the gear putting myself, other motor vehicles, and pedestrians safety at risk. The transmissions are known to by others and gm to lose gears or blow and no recall has been issued to rectify the issues. The vehicle was scanned by a trusted local auto motive shop. There were no warning lamps messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. It was going down the road then slipped/sputtered, dropping in to second gear then the checking engine light came on.
