36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2024

I bought my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 rst used almost 2 years ago. I noticed shortly after buying it that the truck will stall in low gear then lunge forward unexpectedly, it didn't do it all the time just once in a while. Problem is it seems to be happening more frequently and varies in severity. I've asked the local gm dealerships about this issue several times while having it in for service or oil changes. But was told each time that its common with that transmission and nothing to be concerned about, the problem is that I am. I recently started doing research on this and noticed I'm not the only one having these same issues. I'm filing a report as it worries me that a vehicle I'm making payments on is acting this way. I'm also concerned that with the truck in drive and moving, without warning then lunges forward could cause myself or someone else serious injury or worse. This I believe is not the fault of the owner/driver, but gm itself. This problem is not an isolated issue, but one shared by many consumers, me included.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

Experienced several years of misfire problems , replaced spark plugs twice which seemed to fix the problem short term. While out of my home state(retraining for a new job in the airforce) the misfire became significantly worse and made the truck undrivable. Brought the truck to a local mechanic and they told me that I had bad misfires on the afm/dod cylinders and need to replace them all. Chevy confirmed the diagnosis also stated there not going to offer coverage for this know issue. This know failure has costed me 15k in total costs when gm has know about this for years and could have fixed it before costing me so much money . I've also received no help from the chevy dealership or corporate regarding this know problem and I've been told its going to be an out of pocket repair and there's noting they will dop to help.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Transmission failure at 120, 000 was replaced. Then factory thermostat went and then trickled down to the transmission. Got too hot and cooked the transmission. Come to find out it was also the radiator so that was replaced along with the thermostat and a second transmission. Put a transmission cooler on but still get very warm on the transaction fluid. Can't keep the temperature down in the summer while I'm towing. Trailer is well under the weight of the max capacity for the truck. And the latest problem I've had was to replace parts of the frame because that was rotted and beyond inspectable. Now I'm 14,000 in the negative with no reprieve. What is gm going to do for me as far as reimbursement? cuz I still owe a little over $9,000 on the truck. This is ridiculous and I believe I'm going to another brand of truck when I can get out from underneath this one. I've been a chevy owner my entire life and this is how you guys react to all your mistakes.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2024

Recently had to have the transmission replaced on my truck. I was driving on an on-ramp onto a highway and my transmission would not change gears once reaching 50mph, where the speed limit was 70mph, causing me to almost be rear-ended. This was without warning, no lights came on and no other conditions were noticed prior to this event. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was making hard shuddering noises. I had a dealership look it over and they determined I needed a full transmission replacement. Upon researching online, this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2024

My 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5. 3l v8 has a common transmission failure. The torque converter started malfunctioning under 100,000 miles. 6l80 transmission delay of gear engagement. Gears slipping from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. Hard gear engagement when accelerating. Rpm’s rev higher when transmission is shifting.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2024

I am fully aware of of gm’s hydra-matic 8l90 transmission or hydra-matic 8l45 transmission on the 2015-2019 models. My wife was driving with our kids on the highway yesterday and the trucks immediate shaking, increased high rpms, slow acceleration and violent downshifting. Scared them very much on the highway while going at the normal speeds of 65mph trying weave through traffic and make it back home on top of that. With zero warning and this having happened on my first 2011 chevy silverado as well. I know full well there are more class action lawsuits against gm. Them being allowed to get away with this consistent problem and not owning up to their failed products is unacceptable.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2024

Bought my truck brand new in 2017 7 years at 119000 miles I was driving down the road stopped at a red light and when I proceeded to step on the gas when the light turn green my rpm would go up but the truck would not move in the middle of traffic I had to have it towed to a repair shop where I was informed there was an internal transmission failure which cost me nearly 10000 dollars out of pocket to fix never no check engine lights or notice before this happened or after.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

At 83,000 miles the transmission failed. We bought this car from a chevy dealership with 35k miles in November of 2021. We have performed all required maintenance. If gm knows there is a transmission issue with these trucks why won’t they help their customers? it’s a 7k bill on a truck with many more payments and that has less than 100k miles.

50 Power Train problem

Truck only has 55000 miles as of now dealer replaced transmission with receipt to prove paid out of pocket. Breaks still not in working order do to dealer not being able to figure out the problem. Truck is not drivable safety hazard breaks not working and transmission slipping almost caused an accident while traveling at 55 mph truck loses speed tractor trailer almost slammed into my truck lucky tractor trailer was able to swerve over to other lane avoiding an accident truck only has 55000 miles.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

Stalling with no power transmission is putting me at risk since I first purchased this vehicle. Transmission needs to be replaced because of the defective drive shaft on all 2017 models . Really serious problem with a hard shift and multiple misfire. Just not sure what to do at this point. I’m still paying for a truck that’s not working.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

Vehicle shudder was noticed along with harsh shifting. Took to local shop and it was diagnosed as bad torque converter. Referred to transmission shop. Vehicle towed to transmission shop to avoid any further issues. Mechanic sent a picture of the magnet inside pan that was completely covered with metal shavings from torque converter. Mechanic stated new transmission would be necessary. Transmission was replaced February 2024. Truck had approximately 93000 miles on it.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2024

Transmission failed. As I was pulling a horse trailer the transmission went out of gear and left me on a curve in the roadway. No warring lights or any other kind of warning was given. I did take it to a dealer to have it checked out and was advised I would need a new transmission. The cost would be $7,000. I do not have the funds, therefore my truck is not drivable and is parked. I have learned this is a known problem with this transmission and gm is not doing anything about it. The very least they could do is pay for half of the repair cost.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2024

Torque converter clutch system stuck in “off”; and won’t engage when commanded by system…this is apparently a known and common issue. Causing gears to not engage properly and a safety hazard when driving on freeway and higher speeds.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2024

Transmission (6l80) torque converter failed at 76k miles. The transmission has never shifted well but was told that’s how they shift. Vehicle is not used for towing. And all scheduled maintenance was followed. While driving down the road the transmission suddenly started shuttering and jerking. Luckily, I was able to make it to a transmission shop who confirmed the torque converter was shot. Called chevy dealer and the service rep advised that there is a reason they have 30 of those transmissions on the shelf right now, it’s a known issue. Unfortunately, it’s outside the warranty. Transmission has already been replaced with a remanufactured 6l80. 500 miles after the new transmission installed, the torque converter went out again. Another 6l80 is scheduled to be put in. This transmission is unreliable and went out while driving down the highway. No warning lights ever came on to indicate any issues.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2023

While driving on the interstate the truck started jerking and vibrating, started slowing down, while in the fast lane, then a loud whining sound started, finally making over 3 lanes of traffic doing approximately 40mph got stopped on the shoulder. No warning lights or anything came on. Sat there not knowing what happened so I proceeded onto the freeway and it started lunging & squealing again, got off the next exit to find out it was probably the torque converter or transmission, so here I sit in virginia & I live in arizona stranded. And trying to figure out how to pay a $6000 to $8000 repair bill and to find out this is a common problem with gm transmissions.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2023

Engine has always “ticked” since new took it multiple times to dealer they said it’s normal. Took it to shop they say its pushrods. Brakes front they wear unevenly even after being replaced by shop it always feels like truck is braking feels like it takes extra effort on gas pedal transmission its a 6l80 only 85,000 miles and already there is metal shavings in pan and transmission is shifting hard and slipping.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2023

2017 silverado with 6l80, 59k miles - transmission failure due to tcc failure. Rough shifting, coming out of gear, shuttering when accelerating. Truck started to whine loudly when it was promptly taken to the dealership. Dealership dropped the pan and used magnet. Visible metal was in the transmission pan. There were no indicator lights on the dash from this issue. Requested goodwill warranty, gm replied they would cover 20% or $7k so I am stuck to pay $5k for a known issue. The replacement transmission is not new that they are offering, it is "certified refurbished" where they use the old casing with new internals. They are providing a 3yr/100k miles warranty on the new transmission. Deciding factors from gm were age, miles, service at dealership. Incredibly unsatisfied that gm is standing behind their vehicles not lasting 60k miles.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover a percentage of the total cost of the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2023

While attempting to accelerate or decelerate we feel a hesitation and harsh shift. Also along with the harsh shifting there is a shudder at speeds from around 50-72 miles per hour. Yes it is available for inspection. It was a bit nerve racking not knowing if we should be driving or not, we bought the vehicle with 59,000 miles on it and felt some jerky shifting but didn't think anything about it because it was a chevy and that is all we drive, but now with the shudder we are concerned. We were on a road trip yesterday to help our niece move and she lives 3. 5 hours away and we noticed the shudder again, ( we just had it in the shop for new tires, rims and balance thinking it was the tires and rims and alignment ) we were nervous to drive it back home, more severe shudder like driving on rumble strips and the steering wheel would even shake. No warning lamps or messages.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. 69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2023

The afm system to the vehicle started to fail while I was on the road with my family. Vehicle went into limp mode as the vehicle started.
