On 4/09/26, while visiting friends near the border in [xxx] from [xxx] and driving on a dry paved road we lost the ability to stop the truck and engage the brake system. To avoid a crash, I drove the truck up onto the sidewalk and closed my eyes. Fortunately we did not crash into stopped cars but the truck does not work and it has body damage to all sides. Now when the key is in forward collision system unavailable, service traction control and service esc shows on dash. Truck is unsafe and a hazard on the road. A call to gm has been made waiting on a response. Gm case#xxx. Truck is 2023 with 62k miles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The adaptive cruse control will apply the brakes driving, it happens when driving and there is nothing in my lane as far as the eye can see. Sometimes the silverado will go from 70 mph to 30-40 or less and back to 70. Most of the time it will apply the brakes for a sec and then off. One time it locked up the brakes from the low 60 ish mph to almost stoped before I could get control. Every time this happens there is no cars, or abstractions in my lane. I have had the silverado into 2 dealers for this problem about 25 times and they can not fix the problem and I have been told that they are done working on it and they can not find the problem and I will have to live with it. I don't fell safe driving it and have told that to them. I have asked many time to have a gm engineer look at my silverado and find the problem and they did nothing to resolve the problem. I need to a get this problem addressed before I cause an accident or am in one. I also have many other problems that they cannot resolve, the blind spot mirrors light will go off all the time with nothing there or a car will pass on the left side and both the left and right mirror lights will go off. The bluetooth will disconnect from the silverado and the person I am talking to can hear me just fine and the call is no longer over the speakers in the silverado it is on the ear piece of my phone and then will go back to the speakers on the silverado. I will get an alarm that says "take wheel" with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel looking straight ahead. Get an alarm that have trailer light problem and will turn on blinker and it will flash quickly for 10 seconds and then is normal. Radio skips on fm, am, xm, mp3 player at times. The silverado has spent over 4 months and 25 times at a dealer since I bought it new and they have nor been able to resolve any of the problems and I have been told by gm that they are done working on this truck and they can not find the problems. Thank you.
On 1/21/26 traveling on a 4 lane divided highway, vehicle stalled, several warning lights came on and vehicle came to a complete stop in driving lane. Vehicle locked in park and could not put vehicle in neutral to push it out of highway. Several vehicle swerved to avoid and until tow truck came blocked a lane. It was about 3:30pm fortunately. So vehicle was visible and no accidents to our knowledge occurred. Thai created a dangerous traffic situation. It was caused by a fuel pump control module whig was repaired 2 days later at local chevy dealer. We were advised there were no recalls on this part but it is a common problem. Gm should somehow find a solution and repair said problem.
I am sending this email to report that my 2023 Chevrolet silverado had its rear brakes lock up momentarily on consecutive days (1/13/26 & 1/14/26) driving 70-72 mph. each occurrence came on without warning and only lasted a brief moment, but locked up hard enough for my rear wheels to screech and slam me forward in the truck, thankfully there were no other vehicles near me. I took the truck to the dealership first thing in the morning on 1/15/26 to be informed later that day that the truck didn't show any codes. the service department at my dealership contacted the tac dept. At gm and they determined that the problem was caused by the brake light wiring from my truck topper (that was after they asked if the customer had added any accessories to the truck). I have had the topper for 3 years without any issues. I reached out to the company that installed the topper and the owner said that gm is giving me the run around and trying to point the blame elsewhere. He himself has installed 100's of toppers and they follow the wiring instructions from leer toppers. He did a 30 second google search and said [xxx] , the problem you have experienced is well documented online, gm knows what the problem is with your truck". my truck was at the dealership for 5 days before they released it to me, even after I told them that there are known and documented cases of their trucks experiencing momentary rear wheel lockups. I have called gm customer service twice and left messages regarding my truck and tac # and haven't received a return call. I am fearful that when this happens again and if it does so in the wrong place at the wrong time the end of this story may be tragic. if I was pulling a trailer, driving on ice or in rush hour traffic I can't imagine the outcome. gm knows they have a serious problem and they is comfortable in releasing a dangerous truck back onto the roads. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, and attempting to slow the vehicle, the brake pedal required an increased effort to slow the vehicle, and the vehicle required an increased distance to come to a complete stop. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The abs warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that a failure could not be determined as the vehicle was functioning as intended and that no warning lights were illuminated during the time at the service center. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 17,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space and turning the steering wheel to the right, the vehicle surged forward going up onto the curb, and the contact depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal however, the vehicle continued driving approximately 5-10 mph. The contact shifted into neutral(n); however, it was too late, and the vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle before coming to a stop. The contact stated that during the failure, the braking system had malfunctioned while depressing the brake pedal. No injuries were reported. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that one week before the failure, at almost the same spot, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the forward collision avoidance warning light illuminated and remained illuminated without another vehicle being nearby. The contact turned off the vehicle, exited the vehicle and inspected the vehicle before re-entering and restarting the vehicle, and the forward collision avoidance warning light remained illuminated. The contact turned and restarted the vehicle and the warning light was no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
While driving down the road I let off the accelerator to start applying brakes for a red light I was approaching, then the vehicle shut completely off and down shifted hard. After that it restarted a second later but had no power steering and no brakes. At this point I was approaching the red light with no brakes and power of my vehicle, the other traffic had a green light now and was crossing my lane of travel but I was luckily able to make it through the light in between vehicles without causing any harm to myself or others. After making it through the light I was rolling 10mph still helpless but seen a gas station on my right and rolled into their parking lot and drove towards a curb and used the curb to stop my vehicle. The vehicle had the following warning lights and messages: lane change alert system off, brake system failure 62mph top speed, service traction control, service esc, and trailer brakes disabled service required. I then got the vehicle towed to the dealership while still on and in the running position with all the codes still active. The dealer was able to scan the truck in and see the codes but told me they wouldn’t be able to get to it till the following week so they parked the vehicle and turned it off. When they got to my vehicle the following week they sent me a text and said I quote “hey ****** its **** from chevy, I do not have the best news lol he can not get it to act up and there are no current codes he has driven and nothing has happened, as of now there is nothing further he can do”. After receiving that text I called them to just be told they can’t get it to do it again and there is nothing they can do. But I told them I refuse to pick up this vehicle because it had a critical safety issue. This vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, brakes and steering were lost in an intersection. If not diagnosed properly, this poses a threat to life.
Fire in firewall dash possibly brake control, battery and electrical fuse box.
While driving going 40 mph a ‘brake system failure’ warning came on and brakes stopped working. Thankfully there were no cars ahead allowing me to continue until the car came to a stop. At that point I engaged the emergency brake and put the car in park and out of gear. I then had the truck towed to a chevy dealership. I still do not have a response to what the issue is.
I was driving to work from livingston to bozeman and the roads were bad so I was only going about 60 maybe 65 which was reasonable for the conditions this day, and out of nowhere my truck locked up and I slid it directly into the center median.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v674000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to come to a stop, the contact heard an abnormal metal-to-metal sound coming from the front passenger-side brakes. Additionally, the vehicle was delayed in responding, causing the braking distance to be extended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the dealer had replaced the front passenger-side brake calipers, rotors, and pads at approximately 19,000 miles. Additionally, the dealer had determined that the front driver-side brake pads had worn down to the metal at 20,000; however, the cause of failure was not determined. The front driver-side brake pads, caliper, and rotor were replaced. The contact stated that while coming to a stop on a separate occasion, an abnormal metal-to-metal sound could be heard coming from the front passenger-side brakes while the brake pedal was depressed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. They both told me to turn off all the safety features so this wouldn't happen or do not back out of my driveway.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard and failed to stop as needed. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel and the forward collision avoidance feature failed to operate as needed. Due to the failure, the contact crashed into the another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact nor the passenger sought immediate medical attention; however, the other driver did state they would be seeking an x-ray. A police report was filed. Due to the accident, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ductwork above the brake pedal disabled the contact from rapidly depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000 .
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the engine turned off and the instrument panel became inoperable. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the message "tailgate open" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and, upon inspection, noticed that the tailgate was closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. An employee at the dealer closed and opened the tailgate several times until the message disappeared. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the radio stopped functioning, the driver's door unlocked unintendedly, and the driver’s side seat belt failed to retract as intended. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the seat belts had failed. The contact seat belts were replaced. Most recently, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. In addition, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. After a while, the vehicle was able to stop. The message "brake system failure” and “replace brake pads and rotors" was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
While stopped at an intersection my truck lost all electrical power. A couple of seconds later the dash lights came on saying that the vehicle did not have any brakes or brake assist. Then while the vehicle was still in drive it started. Due to the brakes not working the vehicle jerked forward. I put the car in neutral. The light turned green and I was able to get out of intersection and then went to the side of the road. While driving this short distance the vehicle displayed that because the brakes were not working it would not go over 62 mph. Once I was able to stop I shut vehicle off. I waited a short time and restarted the vehicle. This appeared to fix the braking problem but the check engine light stayed on. Drove home with no further issues and called for service which will be 2/19/24. Mostly my concern is that the vehicle restarted while in drive with the vehicle having no brakes.
Several things have happened multiple times now. While driving on an interstate the truck suddenly lost power then from 70 mph dropped almost immediately to 30-35 which almost caused the vehicles behind me to slam into me. Another time the auto stop came on waiting at a red light then when the light turned green the truck threw all alerts on the dash and died. Now I was parking and the esc control light came on then the trailer braking light and now the vehicle lost all power all together. I am not able to start it or even lock it.
The automatic emergency breaking never worked. I took it to the dealership and they told me the computer didn't show anything wrong. I could tell the safety features weren't behaving properly though. While I was driving the breaks completely failed. Luckily I controlled the vehicle to a stop. Every light on the dash was on. I turned the of and restarted it. When I did the break peddle pumped repeatedly on its own hard back at me and made an awful noise. The check engine light came on and stayed on. From that point I tried to get to a safe location to call a tow truck to take the truck back to the dealership. While I drove I managed to get some video of the detection system as I closed distance to the vehicle ahead it saying the gap was widening and the car right in front of me would disappear. Then as the vehicle would pull away, the sensors would say the gap was closing. My safety and others was absolutely put at risk. If anyone would have been ahead of me when the breaks failed it would have been a deadly colission. After I told the dealership there was an issue and they told me I was wrong, then this happened, they have confirmed there is a problem and have had the truck for over a week trying to repair it. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. There was no warning lamps prior to the failure. The only symptom was that the safety features that were stated to be on the vehicle never worked. The truck was specifically marked to have automatic breaking, safety assist, front pedestrian breaking, following distance indicator, and forward colission alert that never worked on a brand new vehicle that never worked from the day I purchased the vehicle. I did report it by calling and even bringing the truck in to be looked at and I was told there was "no issue" by the dealership. Then the break failure took place.
Truck does not brake when any object enters the saftey brake zone leading driver to loose safe distance while driving. Dealer unable to fix.
Started truck and dash lit up like a christmas tree service brakes trailer brake failure do not exceed 43 mph. Check engine light was on multiple other lights were on truck is currently at dealership and gm doesn’t have a fix for issue. Part that is needed is on national back order. Haven’t made first payment and truck is already in the shop and is not safe to drive due to this issue.
