On Monday, 6/15/26, with approx 45,400 miles, I was driving down the road and truck said service transmission. The gears would shift, but it lagged a little bit. I scheduled an appt for two days later, and only drove it when I absolutely had to, which was only twice before my scheduled appt. I get in it to drive and it says service transmission- unable to shift soon, then on my way to the dealership, it says all of that, plus service driver assist system. Chavy's quality assurance team needs to get it together! this is absolutely ridiculous.
6/12/26 ( 2023 chevy silverado - 6. 2 liter engine) while driving at approximately 40 mph on a two lane road, the truck shut off. After multiple attempts, the engine failed to restart. The transmission locked up in park and would not release. This required the truck to be dragged up on the flat bed wrecker instead of rolling freely. Prior to this instance there have been several issues with the electrical system. 1. Radio sound shuts off. Does not come back on. 2. Head lights stay on for 10 minutes after vehicle is turn off. 3. Tail gate opens on it own. Tail gate doesn't open with fob. 4. Door locks fail to operate correctly. 5. When drivers door is opened a beeping sound starts and doesn't stop until door is closed. I have reported these problems to gm & have two case numbers. The dealership reports that the 6. 2 replacement engines have had multiple failures.
My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 experiences an intermittant, uncommanded mechanical drivetrain lockup and severe binding when accelerating from a complete stop. The vehicle rolls fine in a straight line for several feet, but the exact moment the steering wheel is turned slightly (a couple degrees), the drivetrain violently binds up. This creates resistance in the steering and acceleration, as well as a severe physical and audible metallic clunking slam and massive shockwave vibrations felt directly through the steering wheel, floorboards, brake/gas pedals, and driver’s seat. During the last event, the vehicle threw a "service 4 wheel drive" dash message and refused to shift out of "auto" mode back into 2wd. Because this is a pure mechanical interference/binding issue, it does not consistently throw active electronic trouble codes. A standard obd2 code scan will show nothing. After turning the vehicle off for several hours and testing again, the problem persisted. After towing the vehicle to a dealership (6/10/2026) it sat for at least 5 days before dealership service looked at it. By this time, the active warning lights cleared. My initial servicing dealership refused to perform physical hardware or fluid diagnostics under my factory warranty, stating they would not look at the vehicle unless I paid $860 out-of-pocket or until the drivetrain "completely grenaded" on the road. Because this uncommanded lockup restricts my ability to steer the vehicle safely from a stop, it presents an immediate crash hazard. At the direction of general motors corporate, I am escalating this issue and moving the vehicle to a secondary certified facility (feldman Chevrolet of novi) on June 23, 2026, for a formal physical hardware and fluid tear-down inspection.
Engine failed and no light or warning besides check oil was shown on truck. The electrical system also went out (a year before engine failure) so car wouldn’t start.
“service transmission now unable to shift soon” message. Vehicle is stuck in park. Message appeared in may. Transmission stuck shortly after. Safety is at risk due to transmission being unable to shift due to faulty module that is widely reported and known to Chevrolet.
Had a vehicle update for my 2023 Chevrolet silverado and now my onstar module is toast and no longer under warranty bc I have 37,000 miles. Many reports of this happening to 2023 models but no recalls for this. Why should I have to pay $1000. 00 for a part that is failing in many vehicles of the same year.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled, the brakes were inoperative, the gear shift was stuck in drive, and all of the doors and windows were locked and inoperative. The check engine warning light was illuminated and the "please restart the engine" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump regulator module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 373200.
In 2024 there was a recall for the tailgate locking mechanism - we did not receive that recall - but the part went bad causing the battery to drain - and it had to be repaired. We had to pay for the service $500. 00 - we I asked the dealership about this recall they said it did not include my vehicle. But it was indeed that part that went bad. I lease the truck - I had every intention of purchasing after the lease - I am over the miles and was told it was out of warranty. I certainly would not complain about paying for it - but there was a recall last year for said part. Could some please reach out to me regarding this - thank you.
Tailgate opens on its own after parking truck. No buttons inside or on the key fob are pressed and the tailgate randomly opens. Caused the battery to drain as well.
Tailgate unexpectedly opened when driving. Switch on and off when parked and drained battery.
Battery keeps going dead 4 batteries in 4 months think it is caused by power tailgate release.
On [xxx], my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt caught fire while parked in my residential driveway at [xxx] . The vehicle had been started approximately 10 minutes earlier using the factory-installed remote start system. The vehicle was unattended at the time. My neighbor noticed the vehicle on fire and called 911. The andover fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The fire department indicated the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. The fire appeared to originate in the dashboard and steering column area based on visible damage and fire progression. The vehicle had approximately 60,000 miles and was properly maintained. There were no prior warning lights, messages, or symptoms before the fire. The remote start system was factory-installed and not aftermarket. The vehicle is currently available for inspection by insurance, manufacturer, or investigators at [xxx] . The vehicle is likely a total loss due to the extent of the fire damage. This incident posed a serious safety risk as the vehicle caught fire spontaneously while parked near my home. The fire could have spread to my residence or caused injury if someone had been inside or near the vehicle. The fire department responded, and an official fire report is pending. Insurance claim has been opened and inspection is pending. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My onstar telematics system has failed. I lost all connectivity with onstar and have no vehicle crash detection, communication and onstar based safety feature available anymore. I took the truck to the dealership and they identified the telematics module as faulty and needs replaced. The onstar system buttons are off and will not turn back one and have been off since 2/18/26.
Tailgate opening automatically.
Dear sir or madam, I am writing to formally report a safety-related defect involving the power unlatching tailgate switch on my Chevrolet 1500 truck and to request that this make and model be added to the current safety recall affecting chevy hd vehicles. The power tailgate unlatching switch malfunctioned and would repeatedly attempt to open and close the tailgate while the truck was parked. On one occasion, this occurred continuously overnight. The following morning, my key fob was completely unresponsive, and the truck had zero battery life. The battery would not accept a charge, and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Upon inspection, the dealership confirmed that the battery had been fully depleted and permanently damaged due to a short in the power tailgate switch. The faulty switch continuously drew power as it attempted to actuate the tailgate, ultimately destroying the battery. This failure created a serious safety and reliability concern, leaving me stranded with a completely inoperable vehicle. Given that this issue resulted from an electrical short and caused total battery failure, I believe it represents a significant safety defect. Based on the similarity to issues addressed in the current chevy hd safety recall, I strongly believe this make and model should be included in that recall. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and addressed to prevent other owners from experiencing the same hazardous situation. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, charles senn.
Electrical fire in rear bumper. Vehicle parked not running. Point of origin in area of tmp sensor trailer light plug in'.
While driving the vehicle the tailgate came open by itself. I had left my house and when I arrived at my friend’s house to pick him up the tailgate was down. I closed the tailgate and while driving a driver honked their horn to alert me that something was wrong. When I pulled off the road the tailgate had come open for a second time.
Tail gate has water intrusion and opens on it own. I was charge over $200 to have this issue looked at that I was told was a recall. Turns out my vehicle is not listed on the recall yet and was not advised before being charged.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the tailgate was constantly opening unintendedly. The failure also occurred while the vehicle was parked overnight, causing the battery to drain. Additionally, the contact stated that the rearview camera was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the tailgate switch and rearview camera had failed due to water intrusion. The dealer replaced the tailgate switch; however, the rearview camera was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
Fuel pump control module failed and vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Cell [xxx] truck engine shut down twice on interstate 10 eastbound in TX at interstate speeds, in heavy traffic causing dangerous threat to my family and I while powerlessly navigating between high speed traffic and 18 wheelers to exit road independent service center?yes and independent. Code read on truck's computer confirmed a failed fuel pump control module the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? there were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling), but the failure occurred. The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle had passed inspection, and the dealer added a higher viscosity oil, installed 6 oil fill caps, and replaced the oil filter. The contact stated that six months after the vehicle was repaired, there was an abnormal squeaking sound coming from the engine. The contact stopped at a gas station to refuel. Afterwards, the vehicle failed to restart, and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the engine had seized. The contact was at the gas station when the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer; however, no cause for the engine failure was found. The contact was informed that the sound was coming from one of the drive belts. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to another dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the abnormal sound was coming from loose bearings in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The long block in the engine and the radiator were replaced on January 1st. The contact stated that a week after the vehicle was repaired, the vehicle failed to start. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. However, no cause for the failure was found. The dealer recharged the battery. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the starter had failed. The contact requested that the dealer check the ground strap, but the dealer refused. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that the dealer would notify the manufacturer of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,469.
Sometime between backing into my parking spot at work, then backing into a parking spot at the dentist, my tailgate released/lowered. When I backed in at the dentist, my back up camera seemed to malfunction, so I just used my mirrors. Apparently, the camera was just pointing at the ground. Sine you can't see your tailgate in the mirrors; I could not see that it hit the retaining wall at the back of the space.
Engine light keeps returning after dealer visits for oil change. Exhaust heat shield rattles since day one of ownership. During normal commute, when I accelerate reduced power comes on and doesn’t allow me to accelerate much. Engine electrical system, including the charging and starting system. Checked battery, alternator, and starter.
My telematic control module has intermittent connectivity. The check engine light comes on and off and the go's, on star and wifi comes and goes as well. This vehicle has 52k miles on it and is only 2 years old. The shop I took this to said it is VIN specific so the dealer is the only place that can fix it. This is a safety issue due to no onstar as onstar claims to be a safety feature. This needs a recall because this issue is all over the place on gm products.
Back and other cameras are constantly not working and in some cases the backup cam won’t event work at all.
I have had to replace 2 batteries due to the tailgate opening and shutting randomly even when parked, and ruining my batteries. You recalled the 1500 hd's for the same issue. . . But yet not this model when it's clearly happening to 1000's. I'd appreciate it being fixed.
While driving down the road I let off the accelerator to start applying brakes for a red light I was approaching, then the vehicle shut completely off and down shifted hard. After that it restarted a second later but had no power steering and no brakes. At this point I was approaching the red light with no brakes and power of my vehicle, the other traffic had a green light now and was crossing my lane of travel but I was luckily able to make it through the light in between vehicles without causing any harm to myself or others. After making it through the light I was rolling 10mph still helpless but seen a gas station on my right and rolled into their parking lot and drove towards a curb and used the curb to stop my vehicle. The vehicle had the following warning lights and messages: lane change alert system off, brake system failure 62mph top speed, service traction control, service esc, and trailer brakes disabled service required. I then got the vehicle towed to the dealership while still on and in the running position with all the codes still active. The dealer was able to scan the truck in and see the codes but told me they wouldn’t be able to get to it till the following week so they parked the vehicle and turned it off. When they got to my vehicle the following week they sent me a text and said I quote “hey ****** its **** from chevy, I do not have the best news lol he can not get it to act up and there are no current codes he has driven and nothing has happened, as of now there is nothing further he can do”. After receiving that text I called them to just be told they can’t get it to do it again and there is nothing they can do. But I told them I refuse to pick up this vehicle because it had a critical safety issue. This vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, brakes and steering were lost in an intersection. If not diagnosed properly, this poses a threat to life.
On June 10th, 2025 the automatic tailgate on my 2023 Chevrolet silverado began opening and closing without reason. This obviously poses a potential safety issue. After investigating, I found that there is a recall on 2020 to 2024 silverados, recall # n232426400. I called penske Chevrolet in indianapolis to schedule a time for them to confirm the tailgate switch short and execute the recall service. I was informed by penske that my specific VIN was not included in the recall. This is not acceptable. Reporting indicates there are a number of other silverado owners in the same position. Please investigate, as the current state of the recall is most certainly not inclusive of all vehicles that are affected. There should be no hesitation by Chevrolet to broaden the recall.
Vehicle will not make any sounds. There are no warning sounds, no turn signal sound, no radio sound, absolutely no sound from any speaker in the vehicle. This is about the tenth time it has happened. This lasts until the vehicle is turned off, locked, and left alone for about 10 minutes.
2023 Silverado 1500 zr2 19000 miles, motor shut off going down the freeway pulling my sxs at 70 miles an hour no warning nothing alarm nothing. My wife and I were scared to death trying to get off the freeway pulling a trailer and not knowing if the truck would make it. People around us beeping there horns with flipping us off,no warning. 300$ to get my trailer toed back home. Dealership tells me they don't have a loner but would give me a voucher. I have been trying to trade out of the truck after hearing about the truck problems 6. 2 is a bad motor I new it was just a matter of time. Now I am stuck. The scariest part was the timing could not have been worse coming off the freeway. How do I know even when it is fixed it will not happen again. Then we could not get the truck in neutral to toe to dealership so they dragged the $80. 000 truck on to the toe truck nice.
I was in stop and go traffic, the truck engine turned off I could not get it to crank. I was stuck in the middle of a busy road for at least an hour until the tow truck driver got there. Since the truck has electric shifting for the transmission, I could not get the truck into neutral to at-least push it to a safe place. I was informed by the dealership that there is no neutral override unless the vehicle is running. The shifting and fuel system “fuel module” failure is a know problem from gm and need to be recalled. If this would have happened on the interstate I don’t think the outcome would be great. The truck is a little over 1 year old and has under 15,000 miles. Very dangerous situation.
While pulling out onto a very busy highway in north dallas, I had to "step" on it in order to make the turn. Immediatley after making the turn I went to "step" on it and the truck shifted into neutral with heavy traffic. Luckily I was able to coast to a turning lane safely. Once stopped I was able to place the truck in park. However, after shutting off the truck it was never able to restart. This night was an extremely cold night with subfreezing temperatures. Not being able to start the truck meant no heater and myself and my girlfriend quickly became very cold. After calling onstar we waiting almost 45 minutes for roadside assistance. However, they were only coming to try and jump start the truck and had to request a second roadside assistance to come and tow the vehicle. The vehicle could not be shifted into neutral and a flatbed truck had to be used and the truck had to be drug up onto the tow truck. When I first stopped the truck and shifted it into park, the engine was still running and sounded normal. It just could not be shifted into any gears. However, the gm dealership is telling me the engine seized up and needs to be replaced and could take 4-8 weeks just to locate an engine. Although no one was hurt or injured thankfully, the safety risk when this happened could have been very bad and deadly. Not to mention not being able to have heat during extreme cold temperatures is a safety concern. Had the truck not been able to be parked in a safe area, and not being able to be shifted to neutral, this also could pose a safety risk.
The digital gauge cluster where speedometer and other essential gauges for the vehicle failed. It is available upon request. My safety is at risk as I’m unable to determine speed, monitor abs, or monitor other essential features that the guage cluster provides. It also periodically blinks on startling me and putting my life and others in danger. The dealership has confirmed this problem and saodnit is a know issue with this year model but my particular VIN number wasn't recalled. The dealership has inspected the part. There were no symptoms or messages prior to the part failing.
Transmission seal failure caused fluid to leak, transfer case had metal present and had to be flushed, multiple electrical issues where there was no sound and buttons on back left of steering wheel wouldn't function, vehicle put itself in neutral when passing and gave a conditions not favorable for shift change when I tried to put it in park. Eventually put itself in park and I was able to get home. Dash went black, ticking sounds quickly escalated to the motor blowing thankfully close to a dealership on 1/2/2025. Still awaiting a timeframe or information on what will happen. Unable to attach video.
I was going down the interstate and my car engine turned off and almost made me crashed into another car. Chevy dealership took it and after a month they said the engine is locked up so it needs a new engine now.
