1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2026

I am reporting a safety defect involving a gm 6. 2l l87 engine. My vehicle was included in the gm recall related to engine failure (loss of propulsion). The recall remedy was performed, and the engine was replaced under recall/warranty in August 2025. After the recall repair and engine replacement, the vehicle experienced a second catastrophic engine failure, on April 21st. The engine failed again while on a highway, resulting in loss of vehicle function and leaving me stranded. This occurred after the manufacturer had already attempted to remedy the defect. The vehicle has now been out of service for an extended period (approximately 2. 5 months total across both events - and ongoing), and I am continuing to make payments on a vehicle that is not operable. This appears to be a failure of the recall remedy itself, not just the original defect. I am concerned this represents a broader safety issue involving post-recall failures of the l87 engine, as currently under investigation. I am requesting that this incident be included in the ongoing federal investigation into gm 6. 2l engine failures.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2026

While driving, the truck suddenly boggs down and gets sluggish. A message appeared once that said reduced acceleration drive with care. It is dangerous because it loses power and stalls in front of other vehicles. I took it to the dealership on Friday the 17th and they said it was the crank position sensor. They ordered the part and I took it back on Monday the 20th and they replaced the sensor. Today, while driving down the highway it did the same thing again. I will be taking it back to the dealership tomorrow. The truck has 26,000 miles on it.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2026

Was driving the truck on the highway at 75mph when suddenly the motor revved up in rpm’s and vehicle lost all power. There was no warning lights or any limp mode or anything as such as far as warning. The truck lost all power and could hear metal to metal sounds and turned off the motor. I was able to coast the truck to an off ramp in 70mph traffic. The truck would not turn back on and vehicle was immobile, had to have the vehicle towed by a flatbed to a gm dealer near by. The dealer gave me a loaner pickup and hasn’t looked at my vehicle yet. I bought this pickup less then 3 weeks ago and the l87 recall and oil change had been done prior to me buying it. I was just happy that the truck didnt full shut down at that speed and cause a crash etc. Dealer said motor failure to me and couldn’t confirm a turn around time frame for my truck to get back to me.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2026

On 04/16/2026, while driving, vehicle received and completed a software/firmware ota update. A second update completion prompt was received while still in motion. Shortly after, while stopped at a traffic light, the auto-start/stop system re-engaged and the vehicle appeared to restart normally. Upon stopping to refuel, remote key fob auto-start failed to respond. Vehicle was started manually and driven to the next location. On arrival, remote key fob auto-start failed again. Used interior push-to-start — vehicle started but displayed an active check engine light. Connected vehicle app diagnostic scan of the engine and transmission system returned two warning flags requiring service: - transmission system — schedule service now - engine electrical system including charging and starting system — schedule service now all other scanned systems (air induction, fuel management, engine cooling, throttle control, ignition, variable valve timing, 4wd, displacement on demand) returned ok. Both faults appeared immediately following the ota update. Remote start failure at two consecutive locations and the check engine light activation are directly correlated in timing with the update applied on 04/16/2026. No fault codes have been pulled yet — dealership service appointment pending. This is not the first instance of an issue after updates are applied, between the infotainment system blacking out, rear camera or adas not functioning as well as sporadic crackling sound almost like electricity arcing in the engine compartment near the steering column.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2026

These are two separate incidents. The first one is the seat moves to the left or to the right given the direction of the vehicle. The other incident was when I was reversing into a parking spot. The gear shifted out of reverse and just was in a floating stage. I then had to put it back into reverse to continue it did it twice.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2026

2024 6. 2l silverado trail boss, engine failure at 22k miles on 4/13/26. Dealer confirmed the failure (not sure which bearings seized since engine has not been torn down yet, was either crank or rod bearings) and ordered a new engine 4/14/26. I was driving on the interstate and the engine started lightly shuddering during acceleration, showing some loss in power and shifting oddly but no check engine lights and nothing too alarming to immediately pull over. After several miles of this, the engine started to emit a loud metal on metal squeaking/scraping sound when on the throttle but stopped when I would back off the throttle. About a mile later, the truck just shut off at 70mph and went to neutral as I was about to get off an exit to evaluate the issues. Dash said push button to restart as I was coasting, but it wouldn't restart so I put on my hazards and pulled to the shoulder of the highway. Once stopped, it automatically shifted to park and would not crank or allow me to shift to neutral. Flatbed was called and brought it to the dealer. Side note: the truck passed the pico test 1/15/26 at 20k miles and was sent on my way with the thicker 0w-40 oil. Oil was changed every 5k miles and ran 93 octane.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2026

I was traveling at highway speeds when the engine suffered a sudden and catastrophic mechanical failure without any prior warning lights or symptoms. The engine began knocking violently, locked up and put the truck into a brief skid before freeing up, followed by an immediate loss of oil pressure and a total loss of motive power. This sudden shutdown caused a brief loss of vehicle control as the power steering assist was compromised, creating a hectic and dangerous situation while I was surrounded by high-speed traffic. I was forced to navigate across multiple lanes to reach the shoulder. Crucially, this vehicle had the l87 safety recall (NHTSA recall 25v-274 / gm program n252494000) performed on July 8, 2025. The "remedy" provided by the manufacturer—which involved an oil viscosity change and a new oil cap—failed to prevent the catastrophic bearing/crankshaft failure it was intended to address. This represents a failed recall remedy that resulted in a life-threatening safety event. The vehicle is currently at a dealership awaiting a complete engine replacement.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2026

Turning into the driveway and the truck shut off. Place in park and the truck started right back up.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

The 6. 2l v8 motor is known to have faulty internals. I was driving down the highway and the motor shut off. The vehicle needs a new motor now. Gm has offered an oil viscosity change to 0w-40. That was done 20k miles ago. This vehicle now needs a new motor.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2026

Truck shut off while driving in traffic managed to steer it off the road, towed to dealership with p0016 code as well as a bunch of others. Known recall issue passed gm pico test a month earlier. Now when I log in here to view recalls it says 0 recalls not repaired. Now truck has to get a new engine.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2026

Summary of incident: on March 28, 2026, while traveling at 70 mph on the florida turnpike, the vehicle suffered an instantaneous loss of motive power. The engine died abruptly with no warning. Upon reaching the shoulder, the electronic transmission locked, refusing to shift into neutral or park. The engine cranks but will not start. 1. Component failure & availability: the exact component is currently unknown, but the failure involves the powertrain, fuel system, and electronic transmission control. The vehicle is currently at an authorized dealership and is available for inspection by the manufacturer or NHTSA upon request. 2. Safety risk: the sudden loss of power at highway speeds created an immediate risk of a rear-end collision. Because the electronic transmission locked and would not allow the vehicle to be shifted into neutral, it became a fixed object on a high-speed shoulder. It could not be pushed to a safer location, increasing the risk of a secondary accident. 3. Problem reproduction: the vehicle was towed directly to an authorized Chevrolet dealership. As of this filing, the dealership is in possession of the vehicle, but the failure has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a technician as they are awaiting formal diagnostic commencement. 4. Inspections: the vehicle was inspected by a roadside towing professional for transport. It is currently at the manufacturer’s authorized service center awaiting a formal diagnostic inspection. No police or insurance inspections have occurred. 5. Warning symptoms: there were no warning lamps, "check engine" lights, or messages prior to the failure. No symptoms like rough idling or unusual noises occurred. The vehicle performed normally until the moment of total power loss.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2026

What is happening with my vehicle is a major safety concern in my opinion for myself and for my family. I purchased the vehicle on February 18,2026 from ryan Ford in sealy,TX with approx 32,800 miles. The first incident was on March 16 with 33,718 miles, my daughter and I went to leave the lowe’s parking lot and my vehicle would not go in reverse. It however would go in drive, so after being pushed back out of the parking spot we left for our home. (this part of not going in reverse I do have on video) once on the feeder road and up to approx 45mph my vehicle went completely out of gear and had to coast to a stop on the side the road. Turned vehicle off and on and it went back in gear, after making it home I made and appointment with the dealership and dropped it off that day. I was informed no codes came up and the dealership could not get the issue to duplicate so I received my vehicle back. The second incident was on March 21 trying to leave the convenient store, I put my vehicle in reverse and pressed on the gas to go backward and nothing happened. Then I pressed on the gas again and it threw my vehicle in reverse and jolted my truck back several feet before I could press on the brake. Luckily no one or no object was behind me. The third incident was on April 3rd trying to leave walmart. My truck would not go in reverse again. I pressed the gas pedal several times and out of nowhere again it threw itself in reverse and jolted my truck back again. (I also have this on video as well).

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2026

While exiting a highway via an off-ramp, the vehicle experienced a sudden mechanical failure consistent with internal engine/bearing failure. During deceleration on the off-ramp, the engine began to shudder violently and immediately lost power. The vehicle was unable to maintain normal operation and became unsafe in an active traffic environment. After coming to a stop, the engine would not restart and the vehicle was completely inoperable. There were no prior warning signs or alerts before the failure occurred. The issue developed abruptly while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle required towing and dealer inspection. Diagnosis confirmed internal engine damage / bearing failure / engine seizure. The repair required engine replacement this failure is consistent with widely reported issues involving gm 6. 2l v8 engines (model years 2019–2024) experiencing bearing failure and catastrophic engine damage. The same failure characteristics appear to be present in this vehicle. This represents a serious safety concern due to the sudden and complete loss of engine power and inability to restart the vehicle while in a traffic environment, creating risk of collision or roadway obstruction. The vehicle had approximately 65,000 miles at the time of failure.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle started jerking and shuddering before it stalled. There was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,222.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2026

I had my oil changed and the next day the check engine light came on. I looked on the chevy app to see what it was and it said varuable valve timing issue. I click further into the app warning and it said, engines equipped with this system use sensors that regulate the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves to optimize performance and efficiency. I live 3 and a half hours away fro. The dealership so I had some mechanics look at the truck just to see if they could pin point what the issues was exactly. They didnt pull or work on anything just looked around listened and plugged in a code reader. The code reader found some codes that had to do with 3rd stage valve timing issues and vvt. And 1 or 2 other codes. But they didnt know exactly what was wrong. I had my oil changed 1 more time to see if maybe that was the issue. It did not fix the issue. I called the dealership to make a appointment. I brought it in and get a call that the cam shaft need to be replaced. It was in the shop for about a month and when they said it was ready. I went to pick it up and as I was pulling out of the dealership parking lot. The check engine light came on and I drove back and it had the same codes. And now it is being worked on again. The safety side is if it looses power while im going 65 mph it could be really dangerous. Becaue there could be metal shavings in the oil possibly.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

Gm replaced engine after a complete failure associated with a defective engine recall. The remanufactured or new engine installed seems to have a similar defect as the original engine. Returned vehicle for service and was told gm refused to repair or replace the engine until the vehicle suffered another complete engine failure. Regardless of any safety concerns of an another complete engine failure.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

My truck engine stopped working while driving down the road causing me to lose power and I was not able to exit the roadway. There were no warning or messages until the loss of power and dash stated to "restart the engine". This was not possible. The truck was towed to a chevy dealership and they confirmed the engine seized up do to unknown engine failure. This is a 2024 6. 2l engine with 45000 miles that is not under recall. The dealership replaced the engine under the powertrain warranty.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

The cam crankshaft failed. I was driving on the highway at a speed between 65-75 and my truck just cut off without any warning. Luckily, I was in far right lane and coasted over to the side of the road but it was very scary because I didn't control my truck at all. I called the nearest Chevrolet dealership that was kevin whitaker and they give me the Chevrolet help contact phone and they sent a tow truck to pickup my truck about 1 hr later and I was stuck in my truck on the side of the road and I couldn't get out on the drive side because how close it was to oncoming traffic. Once I arrived at the dealership with my truck after asking the tow driver could I ride with him to the dealership. At the dealership they checked the truck with computerized device and the service advisor told me the truck code revealed cam shaft problems. I told him that I did see and warning sign saying low oil pressure once I tired to start up the truck again on the side of the road.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2026

My engine shutoff while I was driving on the highway. I had the initial recall remedy performed on my 6. 2l 2024 silverado truck by getting the thicker oil about 8 month's ago. Now my truck is in the shop I'm suppose to be getting a replacement engine. I'm not sure if I can trust the replacement engine im getting.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2026

I have a 2024 silverado with the l87 (6. 2) engine. I brought in in for recall. After inspection the Chevrolet service center said it was good. They changed the oils to 0-w40 per the recall. On January 8, 2026 I was driving at 35 mph and the engine just stopped. I had it towed back to the Chevrolet service center and after diagnosis it was determined that the engine failed and has to be replaced which take a month or more.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2025

Regarding recall repair on my truck to whom it may concern, I am writing to formally express my frustration and concern regarding the recent service performed on my truck, which I purchased pre-owned from tropical Chevrolet with only 4,700 miles. 9 months after my purchase, the vehicle received a manufacturer recall involving the motor, requiring a full engine replacement. I brought the truck to bomnin Chevrolet west kendall for the recall repair, expecting that it would be handled correctly and at no cost to me, especially since the truck was running perfectly before the recall work. After the motor was replaced, I was informed that the air intake manifold currently on the truck is “not original. ” this air intake manifold was already installed when I bought the truck from tropical Chevrolet, and I was never informed of any aftermarket or non-original parts at the time of purchase. Now, after bomnin Chevrolet completed the recall repair, the truck has a check-engine light, and I am being told I must pay approximately $900 to change it for original air intake manifold to remove the check engine warning light. I think the mecanic took out the program. From the computer and now they want me to pay. This is unacceptable for the following reasons: 1. The truck had no check engine warning lights and was running properly before the recall repair. 2. The air intake manifold was already on the truck when I purchased it from tropical Chevrolet. 3. I never approved or installed any non-original parts. 4. Bomnin Chevrolet removed and reinstalled the parts during the recall repair. 5. I should not be held financially responsible for problems created during the recall repair process. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed and resolved immediately by bomnin Chevrolet west kendall. The truck should be returned to me in the same conditions I gave it to them and the recall fix. Thank you regards, rafael lafee.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2025

In may 2025, we received notice that my truck was involved in gm safety recall n252494000. In July 2025, a fuel consumption test was performed because the vehicle showed low oil pressure and was 2-1/2 quarts low. Chevolet indicated "consuming oil" was normal; however, I have owned trucks for 25 years and have never "consumed oil". In October 2025, we received notice that we could finally schedule the engine inspection at a Chevrolet dealer of our choice. We scheduled this appointment for Monday, November 17th, 2025. The picoscope inspection was performed and the engine passed. They installed new higher viscosity oil, new oil fill cap and insert; but they note that the vehicle had no oil on the dipstick and would like to have another consumption test performed in 2000 miles. The next day, Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, the engine failed. The initial diagnosis was a continuous misfire of cylinder #3 requiring a valve lifter replacement on left side. Upon completion of this work, they identified additional issues including spun crankshaft thrust bearing and damage crankshaft journal requiring replacement of the 6. 2l engine. The engine failure occured the day after the proposed recall "fix" indicating that the picoscope test and higher viscosity oil is not an effective remedy. I brought up concerns about the consumption of oil multiple times with the chevy dealer multiple times and the response is "oil consumption" is considered normal with this engine. Not having my vehicle created significant hardships as I work in construction. I did not have a toneau cover to secure my tools, I did not have the ability to use my toll pass on the highway, I could load construction materials into the rental vehicle, and I had to switch between 4 different rental vehicles during the course of the 65-day repair!.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

Per the dealer, catastrophic engine failure.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

The coolant control valve and the transmission control module are having to be replaced on thousands of Silverado 1500s from 2022 to 2025. Both parts have been updated, but there is no recall and many people are being left stranded due to this. Mine has not currently failed, but I am older and really don’t want to get stranded due to a known issue. Why wouldn’t they have been forced to do a recall general motors should be replacing these as a preemptive precaution.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

Engine burning massive amounts of oil, noticeable tick in engine, dealer request I bring it back every 500 miles for a total of 2000 miles to assess wether or not there’s a fault, when I requested for them to keep it diagnose it in their own way without forcing me to continuously have to return to the dealer (4 different times) for a conclusion.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2025

We have had four previously documented issues with the electrical, brake and engine in our truck. Today, we were advised by the dealer that the truck had been fixed, and a new ecm had been installed. They advised they drove the truck for 100 miles and there were no issues. We picked the truck up and on the way home, while on the highway, the truck went into low power mode, the brakes went out, the check engine light and slip light came on. The dash began flashing detection warning lights (see attached photos): brake system failure 62 mph top speed, service steering column lock, reduced acceleration drive with care, service esc, service traction control. We immediately turned around and went back to the dealership and showed them what was going on. They took photographs and had the technician come out to look at the vehicle. He looked at the lights and codes and admitted he does not know what is going on. The service manager said that the company representative was coming tomorrow (10/21/25) and that he was going to speak with him and recommend a buyback. We left the truck with the dealer and were given a loaner car. This is the 5th incident with the same issues.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2025

For the first time I purchased a brand new vehicle off a dealership lot…what a mistake. While the dealership itself was an awful experience I thought it was worth it for a chevy silverado. After all my previous one was so reliable. Wrong. The first issue I found was I was unable to shift into reverse to back out of the driveway of a fire station I volunteer at. After driving forward a couple times and shutting the vehicle off and shifting multiple times I had to be towed out in reverse. I was able to drive home but the transmissions slipped once and the vehicle slowed abruptly. The check engine light was now on. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership over the weekend and on Monday they called and informed me the 2024 silverado misfired once and nothing was wrong with the transmission. There was nothing they could do. About two months later I was driving to work as a career firefighter/paramedic when my vehicles check engine light came on and a message informed me that I was in “reduced acceleration mode”. I slowly and carefully made my way to work and brought the truck to the dealership after my shift. The check engine light was now on again. They informed me later that day that I had a faulty valve body in my transmission. They “unfortunately” could not give me a completion date on my repair as they had no eta for the replacement part. It appears the part is in high demand. This makes sense as a quick google search shows this is a widely known issue with the 10 speed transmission. So far I have been unable to get a rental vehicle between the dealership and gm. Aside from my house my 2024 silverado is the largest purchase of my life. And at 15,000 miles I am without it for the foreseeable future. As a first responder the communities I serve depend on me to respond from home at any hour. My family and I are living in a diy renovation while also starting a farm business. I need a dependable vehicle and regret spending $53,000 on a new vehicle. I have more to say.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2025

I have a 2024 Silverado 1500 z71. I purchased new, within the first month I started experiencing issues related to the fuel. Stalling, dying, missing at idle and failing to start. I’ve reported it to the dealerships, with the same response unable to duplicate. Sept 22, 2025 I was driving alone rounding a curve in the road when my vehicle lost complete power causing me to loose control crashing into trees. I was unharmed physically, but mentally this hurt. To know this all could have been avoided had chevy customer service or the dealerships listen and looked at the dtc that were clearly shown. P3187 fuel pump pressure performance low pressure. Stated failed since last cleared. Dealership did not acknowledge or discuss with me this dtc. Instead they gave me a multi point inspection stating unable to duplicate. There negligence caused me to wreck.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2025

I have a 2024 silverado 6. 2l. While driving the engine made some scratching/chirping sounds. Then it felt like the wheels locked up momentarily. When I got pulled over the engine was chirping and slightly knocking. Then the engine stalled. I know there is an active recall for 2021 to 2024 l87 6. 2l engines, but the recall did not show up on my VIN. Everything I read states that any l87 produced after June of 2024 was not affected but my engine is damaged just like the ones in the recall.
