Exterior Lighting Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 1

My front passenger side turn signal goes into hyper flash and doesn’t work and my back driver side turnsignal and brake light does the same thing, so when I’m turning other divers have no clue that I’m turning that way which is dangerous, I’ve looked online and seen a lot of other drivers with this same issue and seems to not been resolved yet. I’ve paid a lot of money for this truck and I shouldn’t have this problem, what do I need to do to get this resolved without spending my money for a problem that I did not cause?.

The front drivers headlight low beam keeps going out. I just received my second warning for this failure. It got dark before I got home from the store. We took it to a friend who does mechanical work back in the spring. He fixed it; but now it’s doing it again. Yes we had it inspected last November for tag renewal. There are no warning lights or signals that come on. I think it started acting up around November 2024.

Rain is coming in through the back window. Dealer is stating that the rain is coming from the sliding window but satellite is stating it’s the brake light on the top of the truck.

Noticeable at night. Headlights on, turn signal on, foot on brake slowing down, making a turn, 1) headlights flicker, 2) headlights flicker and complete dash goes black, or 3) all of #2 and steering goes stiff. Has been happening more often. Last time, during the day, turning against oncoming traffic and engine shutdown, started again, shutdown and started, again with dash going black and steering went stiff. When the engine stops and restarts, it does it on its own. I don’t need to turn the ignition key. Very unnerving. My wife won’t drive the truck. Safety at risk is a “yes”. I have noticed when this all happens, the traction control wording comes on the dash and a bell rings. All this has been happening over the last six months. Vehicle only has 94k miles on it.

Passenger side head light and maker light are allowing water to enter the housing and fogging up the lens/headlight reducing effectiveness. Driver side is ok this has been happening for several weeks getting worse.

Truck lost power and died while making a low speed right turn. Attempted to start vehicle but was unable to immediately after losing power, after trying again for about 30 seconds I was able to get it to start and pull it off the road. I lost control of the steering as the steering wheel locked up. When I turned it back on the truck required me to roll the driver window down and back up and radio stations went back to the default station, letting me know that the truck lost power. This typically happens at low speed, but I have had it lose power while driving on the highway at night and my headlights shut off, luckily it immediately came back on.

While driving the vehicle - the left turn signal stopped working. When dropping off at the dealership was informed it is a software issue. The issue went away for a couple of months and then the exact thing happened when using now the right turn signal. This provides no way of letting other people know who are headed towards my vehicle that I am turning lanes. The last incident was verified by the dealership. The headlight is not serviceable. No warnings occurred until after a few blinks where the front signals wouldn't work then indicated that the light was malfunctioning.

All lights including dash lights turned off while driving at night on the interstate at 82mph. Not sure if my knees hit the light switch or not but not sure why even dash lights went out. Brought vehicle to local chevy garage, there was no code and they couldn’t duplicate the incident.

Headlights and wipers stopped simultaneously for 1 second.

Transmission failure along with over heating an also grounding wire issues dash lights flickering along with headlights, and truck shutting off while driving loosing power steering!!!!.

Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500. 00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. Gm also charges a 200. 00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though.

I am filing a complaint regarding an electrical fire in the junction box of my 2017 chevy Silverado 1500. The issue began when the front passenger side marker light would not turn off. I disconnected the battery overnight to troubleshoot the problem. However, when I reconnected the battery the next morning, an electrical fire occurred in the fuse junction box under the hood. At the same time, the engine unexpectedly attempted to turn over and start on its own. I immediately disconnected the battery again to stop the fire. Upon inspection, I found that several wires, plugs, and the top half of the junction box had sustained significant damage.

On approximately 6 occasions over the past 12 months, either the right front turn lamp or left front turn lamp failed. Most recently this occurred on 8/27/24. When this happens, the entire front head lamp does not work. A warning on the dash shows as "check left/right front turn lamp" and the audible turn signal click is faster than normal. Turning the truck off for approximately 15 minutes fixes the issue until it returns again at random. Having functioning head lamps and turn signals is critical to safely operating a vehicle.

Occasionally, from the time the vehicle is started to a while after shutdown the left front turn signal / drl / parking light does not work. Upon turning on the left turn signal, the driver information center says check left front turn signal lamp. The rear turn signal flashes rapidly and the front doesn't illuminate. I've had the vehicle to the dealer 3 times and counting. Twice they confirmed the problem. Wires were inspected and a connection to the turn signal assembly was greased and researes. The next step is to replace the turn signal / headlight assembly.

The electrical system: truck will make clicking noises after I turn it off and the keys are out of ignition. Radio won’t go off when it’s supposed to. I have fan on in my truck for the heat/ac and it blows out of the wrong vent or if I have dial on high there is nothing coming out. When I’m walking away from the truck it will start making noises. Head lights are dim inside lights are dim. I can smell gas in my truck. Transmission jerks no power at all driving up a hill. I had a 2006 chevy silverado. I fell in love with it the first time I seen it. She had a v8 vortex motor in it. I don’t know why a person would put come up with a v6 to pull an 8000 lb truck!!! it takes forever to speed up! I was told to save gas, I seriously don’t think so!!! I put transmissions and engines together for 15 years at Toyota. I have a lot of respect for the japanese people because they care about what they build. Chevy needs to hire some people from Toyota to help straighten them out. Can’t really give dates to many!.

Hello, I purchased a 2019 Chevrolet trailboss lt from a Chevrolet dealership on April 23 2024. I noticed a few days later and after the first rain, the back window was leaking water inside. There is a service bulletin regarding this issue, I called general motors and was told that they recommend me getting this repaired at my expense. Ironically my mother whom was with me at the time of purchase was coughing on our way home from the dealership and said she’s very sensitive to black mold and felt the truck had mold somewhere in it. I do have pictures of large water stains on the headliner along with water running down the back window onto the carpet. I do not feel comfortable putting my family in this vehicle with possible black mold. At time of purchase, I mentioned to the sales lady that my mother suffers from a chronic lung infection and the leaking back window service bulletin was never disclosed with me. I feel that general motors should be held accountable to make these repairs at their expense due to black mold, water around electrical and seatbelts. Thank you for any help.

While driving approximately 20mph and entering a left turn lane, I activated the left turn signals and discovered the driver side front turn signal was inoperative. A cluster message appeared indicating the left front turn signal was inoperative along with hearing the audible double speed "tick tock" indicating a bulb failure. When I arrived home, I also discovered the daytime running lamp (drl) on the driver side, which shares the same portion of the lamp as the turn indicator, was also inoperative. On the next drive cycle the fault cleared itself. A non-functioning turn signal increases the risk of a vehicle crash. This is also a non-compliance with fmvss 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Voq's 11584694, 11582809, 11577734, 11566682, 11561217, 11555917, 11548335, and 11528583 describe a similar failure and are happening early in the vehicle's life.

I bought the truck around [xxx] from barkau cdjr, freeport IL. Two hours away from the dealer the truck went completely dead in traffic. A message appeared on the info screen that said roll down the drivers window and back up to reset the system when the truck finally restarted. Got home with it and called the dealer and let the know. In the next few weeks it happened a couple of more times. It was taken to tapper Chevrolet in paw paw, mi to be serviced. The tech thought it was a problem in the fuse block and replaced that, after that on the week end the truck was returned the problem happened 3 times. Took it back to tapper's and they checked it again, had it for 4 days and could not replicate the problem. Kept having issues and took it to 1st choice automotive llc in dowagiac, mi, he went through the wiring and cleaned some grounds and it seemed to work for a while. Now it is doing the same thing again. It just shuts down randomly for no reason. You lose steering, brakes, you have no control when it happens and no warning when it is going to happen. Not related to my vehicle: even in my truck, the frequency of oncoming and rear vehicle headlight blinding is of great concern. I have noticed that the problem occurs more often with modified pickups of heavy duty pickups. One simple correction could be to limit the absolute height of any driving headlamps. Additionally, in an effort to improve driver visibility by focusing the beams to a concentrated area of view, vs the old heads where the lights failed at the edges of the field of view has greatly contributed to the problem.

The lower portion of both headlights frosts on the inside of the lamp at temps below freezing. The frosting limits the projection of the beam at night. This problem must be corrected through a recall. GMC has a bulletin on this problem, but does not offer a fix.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated there was water and condensation accumulating in the exterior cab mounted third brake light. The contact stated that water was leaking into the cabin of the vehicle from the brake light. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake light and the rear window needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to technical service bulletin: 01-08-42-001n - exterior lamp condensation and water leak (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

Turn signal indicator on front passenger side has already failed and the vehicle has less than 4000 miles on it.

Front left turn signal doesn't work all the time.

Rear third brake light is leaking water into the cab and causing water stains on the headliner. I am worried about it eventually causing an electrical short or more water damage. I don't have a rear window that slides open and the rear glass has never been replaced nor has the third brake light all original from factory.

When something is hit (or pot hole/ rough road etc. )stabiltrak warning and check engine lights flickers, all panel lights go out, and vehicle seems to shut down briefly because you can notice ac go warmer. This is a safety issue.

Emergency brake keeps engaging power steering problem, seat belt light stays on even when buckled. Headlights are dim.

Brake system light failure. Some system lights came on. I had no breaks car didn’t stop fast enough before hitting a pole.

3mos ago I had a fender bender in mesa,az(my front end to pasenger side)her car was towed my wasn't for the next 28 days my truck was still driving just fine like nothing ever happened to it,at the end of the month my work was done so I drove bk to cali and it was till the middle of April when this all started 2 months ago like normal I was getting an oil change from there I went home it was 5:30pm didn't go anywhere else that night,the next morning I put my key into the ignition and it was completely dead, at first I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one,installed the new battery went on my way to run my arens 3hrs pass came home it was around 12:40pm,around 5:30pm I was planning on going to the grocery store went to start my truck wouldn't start truck battery was dead,nothing was left on no door was open no lights were on,so I towed it to my mechanic so he could put it on the scope to find out the general problem,called and told me that it was an electrical problem and my truck would have to be reprogram starting from the main chip in my transmission,going back in forth from my mechanic to the Chevrolet dealer in victorville CA,it's still not in working condition yet and still trying to reprogram the last of these codes that keep appearing on the dash(2016 chevy silverado 6cyl 4door lt,never had any problems at all from the day I got it from the dealer back in 2019 of Mar,with reg oil changes,tune ups,ran like a brand new truck,very confused,upset,concerned about this matter,not to mention the cost for this, sincerely mr. The worst problem I have with this vehicle is that it will cut power to propulsion without any warning. I was driving down a suburban roadway, not on the freeway, thank god. When the truck's automatic gear shift wouldn't engage, I went from going 30 mph to 5 mph in seconds. The accelerator pedal wouldn't respond, I managed to coax my truck into a parking lot and restart the engine. Other times the head lights will not come on. Just today, I turned on the left turn signal and the stabilitrack warning light came on, plus the radio made a brief noise of static. This particular issue appeared and disappeared in one second. I'm concerned that these problems are a manufacturer's mistake, and I want it fixed as soon as possible. My mechanic has tried repeatedly to find the cause but has been unsuccessful.

I put in a complaint in back in July and haven’t heard anything back. I was wondering what the status was? the complaint was about my stabilitrak and my trailer brake system repeatedly comes on and off.

Headlights and park lights keep blow the bulbs both sides an the brake pedal gets hard as a rock and started pushing back up to me just does it at low speeds and backing up at low speed.

At least once a month gives a false trailer braking error and the truck brakes itself, dash dies, driver loses control over the vehicle. It is a risk of crashing or being hit because the truck stops itself in the middle of driving without brake lights coming on to alert other drivers. No way to overcome this - can't hit the gas pedal, etc. It seems to think that you are hauling a trailer and it thinks the trailer is swaying. . . Problem is this truck has never towed a trailer even one time. . . It's completely false. But also very dangerous.
