A week or two before I took my truck into decorah chevy isr because tailgate was going up and down all by itself while I was driving or parked without me by it. They said it was just the latch button . So they fixed it they said and still my blinker lights would just come on and then I hit a deer and my seatbelt did not latch and my airbags didn't deploy even though my app says they did. I'm wondering if all three are connected with electrical . Either way my air bags did not deploy and my truck has extensive damage and my seatbelt didn't lock ,.
I am submitting a safety complaint regarding a vehicle restraint system failure. I was involved in a collision with a deer. During the incident, the seat belt pretensioner activated; however, the seat belt did not properly restrain me. I experienced forward movement despite the pretensioner activation. The airbags did not deploy. Because pretensioner activation is intended to lock and tighten the seat belt during a collision, I am concerned that the restraint system failed to function as designed. This raises concerns about occupant safety and the ability of the seat belt system to provide protection in future crashes. I am submitting this complaint to document a potential safety defect and request review of this restraint system failure. “after reporting the seat belt restraint failure to general motors, I was informed that because I was not injured, no action would be taken and no further review would occur. ” thank you for your attention to this matter.
I was a front seat passenger in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and was properly wearing my seatbelt at the time of the incident. The vehicle struck a deer, and during the collision, the passenger seatbelt failed to properly restrain me. I was thrown forward and struck the windshield. The seatbelt did not appear to lock or tighten as expected during impact. It is unknown whether the seatbelt pretensioner or airbag system activated properly. This created a serious safety risk, as the seatbelt did not perform its intended function of restraining the occupant during a crash. The vehicle was declared a total loss following the incident and is no longer available for inspection. The incident was documented through insurance and/or police reports. There were no known warning lights or prior indications of a problem with the seatbelt system before the crash. This failure resulted in occupant injury risk due to lack of proper restraint during the collision.

I got in my truck and put my seatbelt on, next thing I know it’s just hanging there. The cable in the seatbelt broke, down by the door frame. Very dangerous! can’t imagine if I had been in a car accident! now my seatbelt is a safety hazard! I took it to the local dealer and they said they can fix it, they ordered the parts and said it’ll be over $300. They stated it had already been fixed during a recall & it’s my responsibility now. I would think chevy would get this problem with the seatbelts fixed ASAP! I’m surprised someone hasn’t been killed because of them.

The car seat anchor system is very poorly designed and extremely difficult to use. I just spent an hour trying to ensure the seats for our grandchildren are installed correctly. The upper anchors are poorly placed, difficult to access and do not inspire confidence the seats will be secure in the event of an accident. This is after I had to take the truck in for a warranty claim because the lower car seat anchor on the back seat passenger side was covered by factory upholstery and could not be used at all. It’s very frustrating when one attempts to comply with safety regulations but poor design inhibits the proper installation of car seats.

A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v814000 (seat belts); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had already been repaired. I was driving at approximately 35 -40 mph in foggy and wet conditions. As I approached a corner, I collided with a big metal dumpster. My airbags gave off that powder, and the smell was prominent, and the dash light came on. As well as, my side airbags (only the plastic) popped out, but, to my amazement, none of my actual airbags deployed at all. And my passenger seat belt was locked up to where I couldn't use it anymore, and no one was in that seat. Had I been in a frontal collision, I might have died. This is a major safety issue I have a 2107 Silverado 1500 lt.
I called gm and the lady told me that there 5 recalls on this truck of which 4 were taken care of. There still remains one left undone. I purchased this truck from a private owner. The one remaining is the seat belt wire issue. A new warning has appeared on the dash, saying service trailer brake system. This a non stop warning while driving the truck. Very distracting and dangerous. I looked on you tube to see if anyone has this problem. Yes there are some. One incident stated that to resolve this issue, someone needed to check the trailer receptacle plugin for corrosion, or broken wires. If all is good there check the other four connectors under the truck on the frame. Finally if these are all good, then check the fuse box under the hood for the fuse for this braking system. The representative that I talked to from gm said to take the vehicle to a local dealer for analysis to see where the problem is in the trailer braking system. Dealer labor rates are high. The representative stated that there is a payment assistance program available through gm if a dealer takes care of the situation. Is this true? I need this truck every day for work. Please address this issue . Thank you, [xxx] my email [xxx] . Ph# [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The rear driver side seatbelt will not pull out, when I went to the garage to have it looked at to see what the problem was they told me it was the seatbelt retractor. I have not fixed this yet because it is expensive to fix.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the seat belt fasteners retracted; however, after adjusting the seat belt the seat belt failed to retract properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair, but the failure persisted. On a separate occasion, the rearview camera displayed a half-moon shape and block the visibility of the driver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer informed the contact that the issue was normal, and the vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion the contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. While the contact was driving 75 mph, the vehicle started to lose motive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine and lifter failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,537.
The cable that attaches the driver seat belt to the base of the seat broke while I was sitting in the vehicle driving. Truck has been well cared for and this seems like a major safety issue since the seatbelt has been ineffective for who knows how long at this point. Online recall tool indicates I have 0 open recalls too. Thank you!.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while buckling the seat belt, the contact became aware that the lap belt was no longer attached to the anchor cable. The contact stated that the shoulder belt operated as designed; however, the lap belt was inoperable. The contact called a local dealer and was informed that the vehicle been previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 16v209000 (seat belts) in 2016 as a one-time free repair. The contact was informed that a second repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The contact contacted the manufacturer and was informed that the dealer was correct. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.
The whole tension rod of driver side seatbelt ripped off. Recall was issued I took to get done afterwards the seatbelt tension rod broke. I called dealer and chevy and they say well we did the recall tuff luck! they knew it was about to break or almost broken and did nothing and gave me my truck back unsafe. I can’t use my car due to no seatbelt on driver side and they won’t own to their error.
I have a 2014 chevy silverado that just got a broken seatbelt driver side tension rod. This was serviced in 2016 due recall and closed with just a plate put in place. Now because the rod may have been compromise it finally gave out and the tension rod completely snapped off and my seatbelt is broken and unsafe. I called dealer that performed repair said they couldn’t do anything I called gm/chevy and said it’s normal wear and tear that doesn’t seam correct to me. There’s an issue with it and it shouldn’t snap off while driving I shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for a know defect that was not properly corrected and was just preformed a quick fix that didn’t solve the issue.
Hello, I purchased a 2019 Chevrolet trailboss lt from a Chevrolet dealership on April 23 2024. I noticed a few days later and after the first rain, the back window was leaking water inside. There is a service bulletin regarding this issue, I called general motors and was told that they recommend me getting this repaired at my expense. Ironically my mother whom was with me at the time of purchase was coughing on our way home from the dealership and said she’s very sensitive to black mold and felt the truck had mold somewhere in it. I do have pictures of large water stains on the headliner along with water running down the back window onto the carpet. I do not feel comfortable putting my family in this vehicle with possible black mold. At time of purchase, I mentioned to the sales lady that my mother suffers from a chronic lung infection and the leaking back window service bulletin was never disclosed with me. I feel that general motors should be held accountable to make these repairs at their expense due to black mold, water around electrical and seatbelts. Thank you for any help.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated upon entering the vehicle and attempting to latch the front driver’s side seat belt, the seat belt anchor detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure was determined to be that the seat belt lap anchor tensioner cable had detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the same failure had previously occurred in 2016 and was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 16v209000 (seat belts). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was transferred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 95,895.
I was t-boned by a f-150, airbags didn’t deploy and my seat belt didn’t lock. With no safety features deploying, I sustained injuries. No one wants to inspect it, due to there being no fatalities or permanent dismemberment. There were no warnings or lights on prior to the accident, the seatbelts still latch and are able to be buckled which they shouldn’t be.
My 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 rst was purchased brand new in 2019 and has less than 50k miles on it. The rear, passenger seat belt fails to retract which is a safety issue and where my child sits. Chevrolet stated that it was not covered under any manufacturer warranty or the purchased extended warranty from the dealership. This is a huge safety concern as the seat belt will not function without being able to retract. For it to fail with less than 50k miles and being less than 5 years old is unacceptable and so concerning. The estimated cost of repair is $806. 51 which is crazy that they will not fix this issue as there is a new warranty for trucks built in 2021 and newer for safety belts specifically. Chevrolet should stand by their safety equipment, especially on their newer vehicles. I have uploaded a copy of the dealership information and recommended repair as well as cost of repair that they stated would not be covered.
I attempted to fasten my driver side seatbelt & the cable holding the seatbelt to the vehicle frame on my left side broke completely off, I have it temporarily attached until I can have it restored to its expected level of performance & have shown it to a Chevrolet service department & they informed me my cost to have them repair it would be $750, this incident never before or after the seatbelt break, activate any warning lights on the vehicle, could just as easily snapped in a crash, being a retired state trooper myself I am deeply concerned about operating a vehicle with defective seatbelts & was appalled at the dealerships lack of motivation to address this dangerous situation.
My truck has roughly 26,000 miles and the airbag sensing module on it corroded due to water gathering around it in the acoustic padding. It happens because water runs down a line that enters the cab and gets absorbed by the acoustic padding. This is a known issue as there is a recall for other states. My state is not one even though louisiana is one of the wettest states and we also use salt in the winter when the roads ice. I’m glad I didn’t get hurt by this since it can cause the seatbelt pretentioners to fire and/or the airbag to deploy. This is the document from gm/NHTSA. Gm bulletin [xxx] [xxx] can you please include louisiana in this recall since the issue is affecting us? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle in front of the contact made a sudden stop, causing the contact to desperately press on the brake pedal and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The front driver’s side seat belt tensioner cable separated causing the contact to launch forward. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 210,000.
2021 the driver side seatbelt broke which resulted in a recall. Same thing has happened again; the thick metal coil within the plastic cover snapped. We have a scheduled appointment today with the dealer to have it again replaced. They said it's our responsibility to pay even though the first time we were eventually reimbursed. This is a defective part; no seat belt should break again in two years! another recall needs to be activated.
Yesterday while parked I put on my seatbelt and it broke off at the cable where it comes out of the seat by the door.
Driver’s seat belt started sporadically coming unlatched. Now the buckle won’t go in at all. One of the seatbelts in the back is stuck in a locked position so that one is now unusable as well!.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his daughter was attempting to use the driver’s side seat belt, the seat belt became unlatched without warning. The dealer was notified about the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact's wife discovered NHTSA campaign number: 21v245000 (seat belts) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
