Break lines are completely rusted and I am afraid they will go out without warning. Truck only has 67,000 miles on it.
Hole came in break line due to rust. All most ran thru a busy intersection. Also had a break line to rust into on 4/10/15.
Engine idler pulley seized causing serpentine belt to break which resulted in loss of power steering and loss of power brakes. . 2 local gm dealer parts department's stated this is common on the duramax diesel engine.
We were getting ready for a long trip (maryland to florida). We hitched our trailer to our truck and were testing lights, brakes, etc. At the campground before we left. As we tested the brakes at a low speed, we realized the brakes did not work at all. We parked it right there on the road in the campground and called a tow truck to take us to our mechanic's shop. When he looked at it, he found he had to replace all the brake tubing because they were all rusted out. Had we been on the road with our trailer, we would have had a crash and could have been killed or severely hurt.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while shifting into drive, the brakes and the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. At the worst possible time with icy roads and snow. I was on my driveway trying to get to the top off it when I lost traction. I stopped and applied the brakes. I started to back down the drive when the peddle fell to the floor causing the truck to go violently out of control and crash down over an embankment. There was no warning, just total loss of brakes both front and rear. Mechanic says the lines blew apart from rust.
Driving home from store only to have vehicle stop short in front of me. Applied brakes and to my surprise the pedal went to the floor. Luckily I had room to manuver around traffic and avoid an accident. Vevicle was towed to repair shop and I was told left front break line rusted out. I purchased this vehicle new and I can attest that no unusual circumstances occured to warrent breakline rusting out. Moving forward 16 months I was leaving the house only to have breaks go to the floor. Vehicle towed to chevy dealer. Dealer tells me all break lines rusted badly (except one previously replaced) and need of replacement to the tune of $2700. 00. Good thing I was not driving or worse yet pulling my 8000 pound camper. Is it going to take some one getting killed before chevy is made to admit they have a serious safety issue with theese breaklines.
The abs on my 2006 silverado activates on low speed stops on dry pavement causing the brakes to release. It is not the typical abs action that most people are familiar with, where the brakes release and apply - it is the brakes releasing and not reapplying under pressure, while foot is on brake. I have gone through an intersection while towing a horse trailer and had many near-miss incidents coming into toll booths, stop signs and red lights. Have almost rear-ended vehicles because of this. This needs to be a recall item. It is dangrous, very expensive to fix and prone to happen again once fixed.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph and as the brakes were appplied, the abs activated abnormally. The vehicle continued to accelerate and after applying the brakes numerous times, the vehicle eventually slowed down. The failure only recurred when driving 10 mph or less. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised that there was not a recall pertaining to the brakes. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
When coming to a stop a speeds of 10 mph or less, brake pedal goes towards the floor as if the abs is activating, causing loss of braking. It occurs on all types of driving surfaces and in all weather conditions. Problem has gotten worse with time. Dealership says there is no known problem. . . However the internet says differently! problem occurs almost every time you are making a slow approach to a stop, which is usually when other vehicles or pedestrians are in front of you.
I have an 06 chevy Silverado 2500hd extra cab, I live in CT. I recently started experiencing a problem with the vehicle when slowing to a stop, the abs kicks on, whether driving on wet or dry roads. I had aa warranty which was 3 year , 36,000 miles which the 3 years expired last October and the vehicle recently turned 37,000 miles. I have found many similar complaints online and the local dealer seems to know nothing of any problem and of course wants me to bring the truck in for a diagnosis. The problem happens randomly, and it definitely increases my stopping distance. I have considered removing the fuse for the abs system but feel I may need the abs in some future circumstance. Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Drove 40 miles from work to home on Nov. 25th and parked in my driveway. No issues. On Saturday, Nov. 28th, attempting to leave driveway, had loss of steering and braking (no power assist) and rolled into street. Vehicle towed to local dealer. Cause was ruptured nitrogen cannister at hydroboost assembly with loss of power assist and contamination of fluids. Fortunately, I was in my driveway on not on the 40 mile trip to or from work on interstate highway.
2006 chevy Silverado 2500hd. Antilock brakes engaging at low speeds all the time. This can cause and accident because it increases the stopping distance required. Vehicle has 34,000 miles on it.
Power steering fails and since the power steering pump controls the hydoboost it affects the power brakes of the vehicle. When the power steering pump fails you loose power brakes and the vehicle moves forward at a brisk pace until you forcefully put both feet on the brake pedal and push down with all the power you can to stop the truck. Since this has happened 4 times I realize immediatly what the probelem was and applied all the pedal power I could to stop the truck. This can be an intermittent problem and since the dealer cannot duplicate the issue, they will not replace the power steering pump until it fails completely, which mine finally did. 6 months later the replacement pump is doing the same intermittent failure and the dealer will not replace it until it completely fails again.
