When pulling out into busy traffic the tcm quit and lost all power to the wheels. Could not move. Luckily the traffic seen we had a issue and swerved to go around us. We found out later this has been a huge issue for gm with tcm on units like mine. If traffic would not have been paying attention they would have hit us and caused injuries to my family and probably theirs. Glad we were not pulling out onto a highway with high speed traffic.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while her husband was driving 45 mph, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The driver was unable to shift gear. The driver stated that the vehicle hesitated and failed to accelerate over 20 mph. The driver was able to continue driving to the residence. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the transmission control module (tcm) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The dealer informed the contact that parts were not available. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
The tcm malfunctioned. After being replaced the vehicle still didn't perform as it did before the repair. I have researched this issue with all Chevrolet trucks from various years. There are multiple blogs from owners of these trucks that show the extent of the issue. I cannot afford to pay $ 1000. 00 to fix a problem that gm knows that has existed for years. This is a serious problem if you are driving and the truck looses power; especially when you're going down hill traveling at a high rate of speed and your transmission doesn't function properly. I have had the transmission repaired and the issue persists; it seems as though gm wants owners to pay out of pocket. Some may not and this could lead to unsafe trucks being on the road. Thank you.
