Was traveling to the beach on vacation when I noticed a smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. I pulled over looked under vehicle and noticed that the transmission line had rotted completely through. Once it was repaired I was shown by my mechanic how rusted through the brake lines were also. Have had the lines the lines only repaired will have to change all the lines. I have to now change the hub bearings because whenever I come to a stop at know speed the truck lunges forward.

Failure of front wheel hubs on 2000 Silverado 2500. Replaced both shortly after purchase of truck about 14 months ago. After about a year both are worn out again. One has extreme play. Completely stock truck. On road use only. About 5000 easy miles on the hubs. Seems that one is close to falling apart. The other is on the way. Because of the excess play braking is compromised as well as stability. Not sure what brand they are. But bought on ebay. . Read more...

Heard clicking noise coming from the front right side of the vehicle when making turns. Sound was only occasional at first then became louder and more prevalent over time. I took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer and they determined that the right front hub bearing was faulty and required replacement. This is a sealed bearing that can not be lubricated during routine service intervals per the service adviser. Total failure of this bearing could cause the right front wheel to lock up while driving and/or generate a great amount of heat causing a tire blowout or fire. The bearing was replaced by the Chevrolet dealer at a cost of $631. 00. Old parts were not made available to me. The vehicle drives fine now and there is no noise. The vehicle is a 2005 Chevrolet truck/ Silverado 2500/pu with four-wheel drive and diesel engine. The vehicle had 54,370 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to wobble while making a turn. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and it was discovered that the front wheel hub was no longer together and needed to be replaced. Approximately 9 months later, the front passenger side wheel hub needed to be replaced. The current mileage is 113,904 and failure mileage was 9,780. Updated 10/07/08.
There was a bumping noise noted coming from the left front wheel. The truck was taken to the dealer for repair. The left front hub assembly for the chevy 2500hd four wheel drive with duramax diesel engine was replaced. The dealer stated that the right front hub assemble was also loose and would need to be replaced soon. The dealer stated that they have had to replace three other complete hubs, so this means that a total of six hubs have had to be replaced. It was confirmed with the dealer that these hub assemblies have no grease fittings and only come with whatever grease is in the hub at the time of manufacture. This is a potentially dangerous situation and could result in an accident with a loss of life. This is reported in the hope that a full and complete investigation is conducted prior to a catastrophic failure with a loss of vehicle control and a resulting loss of property and lives. This should be investigated with the highest priority. I await your response and results of the investigation.
My Chevrolet 2500hd began making noise from the front end at 67,500 miles. The right front wheel bearing assembly failed, there was no accident involved. The worn assembly is available for inspection. According to the repair shop this a quite common failure in the 2500hd. Had this been a catastrophic failure at highway speeds, the results very well could have been insurmountable. The assembly contains non grease sealed bearings that should not fail at this rate.
