Right hand steering wheel controls inoperative, outside ambient temperature reading on radio display inoperative, inoperative rear vision camera gridlines, and onstar menu screen is not showing when pressing onstar button. Inoperable radio steering wheel control buttons increase driver distraction risk in reaching for the radio display. Absence of rear camera gridlines reduce driver guidance in reverse. Onstar menu not starting in case of need. Reported in existing gm technical service bulletin 16-na-347. [xxx] ) related to completed key chime recall completed prior to October 10, 2016. Current vehicle codes were reviewed by hendrick Chevrolet Buick GMC southpoint, and no existing error codes related to the issue were presented. No warning lamps on, messages on radio display, or other symptoms. Errors all presented simultaneously with no warning. Appeared first June 2024. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle keeps throwing error code p2138 there is a current known issue that gm is aware of see notice 070604019f. Water gets in the electrical connections of sensors and is an issue as it causes check engine light and can decrease power of the acceleration of the vehicle which is a safety hazard. My vehicle has been with the dealer now for a third time for same issue. They’ve had it for 3 weeks and 2 days total. Still an issue.
We have had to deal with severe overheating issues and failing parts our entire ownership of this vehicle, both of which then cause other parts to fail, as the parts are so poorly made and heat sensitive. We have replaced the turbocharger (twice), intake manifold + valve cover (twice), catalytic converter, the radiator (three times), the cooling fan (twice), the maf sensor (twice), and much more. All of this has been done over the course of 18months. This has easily been the most expensive car we have ever owned due to the constant repairs, all of which has been because of failing parts and overheating.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. The contact stated the audible indicators for the driver's seat belt and the "key left in ignition' was inoperable. The contactor also stated that the radio powered on independently, causing the driver to be startled due to the loud volume. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, but not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v422000 (electrical system, equipment), 16v257000 (equipment, electrical system) or 15v416000 (equipment). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Steering wheel will lock up when you turn on car, we took it to paradise Chevrolet, and they found power steering module has update available however need 12 volt battery to be a higher cca to reprogram p/s volt battery testing at 356 cca recommend replacing battery and reprogramming p/s module. Of course, this was not covered under our protection plan and should be covered, I had to pay. $578. 37 my car is only six years, and this should not be happing. 11/27/23 vehicle shuts off while driving this has happened three time to us. We cannot drive the car it is not safe. 12/19/23 had it tow to paradise Chevrolet. This car is not safe to drive. We have a protection plan its useless.
First sign of problem - sept. 2021. Driving on highway at about 35 mph. Simultaneously, engine quit running, door locks unlocked and all dash lights came. In a matter of less than a second the doors relocked, forward momentum of vehicle caused transmission to kick start the engine and jolt forward rather violently. Then the dash lights went off and the vehicle resumed normal operation. This continued to happen with increasing frequency. I took the vehicle to the local chevy dealer to set up an appointment for service. When I explained the problem to the representative, he told me that the battery was the likely cause. I went to an auto parts store and had the battery checked. It did, indeed, have a bad cell. I replaced the battery and the car operated fine for several months but the problem began to recur, infrequently at first but continued to worsen. I discovered later that the same problem also happened when when the car was sitting idling. The difference was that without the forward momentum of the car, the engine did not restart and required being shifted into neutral and started with the key. Also, when driving at a speed of less than about 30 mph, the forward motion was not enough to kick start the engine and shifting into neutral and using the key to restart was necessary while coasting in traffic. Final symptom, the above has happened only now the dash lights go out and the vehicle does not respond at all. After several minutes and several attempts the lights come back on and the vehicle runs. The car had 55,563 miles on it when I bought it and in just over 3 years, I have put 6,237 miles on it and it now sits because I am afraid to drive it. I have had the vehicle back at the dealer twice since having the new battery installed. They simply tell me that they cannot recreate to get a code and therefore cannot help.
My car lock and unlocks when I did not hit any buttons. The remote start does not work sometimes. The battery loses connection from time to time with a brand new battery. I own 2 of these cars and the same exact thing is happening. There needs to be a recall on this.

Purchased 2012 chevy Sonic for my son so that he can drive around as he is a student driver. Purchased on July 27th and pickup on the 29th on 30th morning driving the car on the highway the car stopped while in drive mode and luckily no accident. Reached out to the dealer I towed the car to dealership. First they told me is ready nothing wrong and said there is a problem with the key they didn't program it I picked up the car on August 2nd and while driving 5 miles it was doing stalled on the highway near natick mall the natick police came and tried to move the car to safe spot. Since 12 day the car is with them on 10 August they told me that they are taking to chevy dealership on the 11th and received a call from dealership on 14th that they will do diagnosis today and I just got of the phone with the service manager she they the body control module need to be replaced and they spoke with USA motor sport salesman marvin he denied to fix and said he will bring old body control module from used car and will do reprogram I called the owner who is the ruddiest person in the world he started abusing and using false language I am going to reach out to attorney general office and complain. He is saying I cannot call him when the car is ready he will call I need to report this to higher authorities the car is stalled whiile driving.
In June of 2023 I was driving my vehicle and suddenly the traction control, power steering and check engine light came on. I was able to get the vehicle safely home without the use of the power steering. Once I shut the vehicle off, it would not start again. I got the vehicle to my local dealership and they diagnosed it as one of the main wire harnesses was rubbing against a bolt near the battery, which is a known issue, and caused an electrical short in the system. It caused the ecu and electronic power steering to short out. They replaced the ecu, but have not been able to replace the eletronic power steering because it's no longer being manufactured. The vehicle at the time of incident was only 6 years old. I feel like this is a violation of the magnuson-moss act. There are no third party vendors that make this part. It has only ever been available through gm directly.
Car has problems starting after gas is put in it u have to step on gas peddle several times to get it to start car does not have working backup camera in it or even a working radio in it car has a check engine light on I took it to were I ought it twice they cleared codes out of car but codes come back on all the time I would like to exchange this vehicle if possible can u help me manns performance vidalia GA 30474 is were it was purchased 6/01/2023 this has been a issue since I got from dealership crack in window after having it two weeks even with windows cracked sitting in the yard.
My auto started out with a check engine light. I noticed the engine smelled of overheated radiator and coolant smell. Parts were replaced for fix (hose). . . But check engine light continued as well as the overheated coolant smell. The auto was placed for checking on machine for codes for check engine light, but none of codes made sense to mechanic. Told to bring back for further testing/looks. Brought back several times. No idea what was wrong but last time I was told I needed to leave for extended testing and test driving as gears were not shifting in d struggled engine for me, no acceleration and rpms raced at times. (dangerous and unpredictable on highway and in town). Now I turned in for testing to chev mechanic, and now am facing a part that was replaced in control of electrical (over $500) and after they repaired that and tested I am told that I have a total transmission repair over $5200 - for a 2014 auto!!! it was in with dealership mechanics a total of 6-7 times. I was informed the electrical controls were confusing the engine reactions. Auto a dealers for $5200 + $500 repairs now 20230702 and problems seen & looked at since March for smell of overheating radiator, fix if hose (wonder if really needed), continued check engine light, refill of radiator fluid, codes checked and did not give correct evaluation. Eventually the transmission needs replaced out, at time that there is rpm revs, no acceleration while driving and gears heard to struggle in engine. Mileage now over 97000. Estimate on mileage, I do not have all documentation before me. Extended powertrain warranty from dealership started at year 2015!!! anything older not allowed, so I am told I have to pay the entire bill.
Unknown -- during driving the vehicle the radio and power steering will stop working, locks and key for occasionally have issues, and the car shuts down and has to be re-started. Sometimes will take a minute or two to be able to be re-started. If car stalls at high speeds could cause a catastrophic accident, injuring possibly killing driver or other drivers due to not being able to control the car. Car has recently been serviced replacing the radiator, coolant tank, and purge valve (this was throwing the check engine light). No codes can be found and the problem cannot be duplicated. Happens at random times, nothing triggers it.
There was an instance a couple months ago where I was driving and my ignition stopped. To my luck, I was in a safe area to stop but it is dangerous for this to be happening with my car while I am driving.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the rear windshield suddenly imploded, causing glass shards to be propelled inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated that it sounded as if a shotgun had been fired. As a result of the implosion, the contact sustained injuries to the left eye. The contact sought medical attention. The contact stated that there was an abnormal electrical humming sound coming from the rear windshield prior to the failure. The contact stated that the defroster was not activated at the time of the failure. The contact stated that there was prior electrical shortage failures with the vehicle. Additionally, there was melted solder present at the rear window defroster electrical connection. An unknown local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact stated that he had a police report for the failure. The contact stated that a field investigator was sent to the residence to inspect the vehicle; however, the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 125,000.
Once again, my doors unlocked then relocked, my dashboard lights went out and the engine stalled. I was on the ku campus when this happened 3 times within 6 blocks. This is getting very scary, especially when I am in a busy area of town. No codes have ever popped up. This has been happening since may 2022. I will keep reporting, hopefully there will be a recall soon. Very frustrated with this situation!.
On September 2, 2022, the locks on my car unlocked and relived while I was driving at about 20 mph. This keeps happening over the last 4-5 months. This time it happened twice in two blocks near my home. I have reported this several times. No codes ever come up. Sometimes the car will stall but always starts right back up. I know I am not the only one with this issue. Please find a cause and issue a recall to get this fixed! this can be very dangerous even life threading if there is an accident because of it.
3 times yesterday - September 1, 2022, my car locks unlocked then locked again and the engine stalled. Dash lights did not go off, but the car died 3 times in a matter of 10 minutes.
Dashboard speed indicator dimming and getting brighter for no reason. No warning lamps. Check engine lamp turned on then after fueling vehicle engine won't start, or won't shut off. Vehicle is an automatic transmission. A button must be engaged to put vehicle in park, drive, etc. The button often sticks and keys cannot be removed because the transmission won't go in to park . On July 17 the button popped out while driving. This could have stranded myself or my family. The cause of the issue is unknown, but drivers may become distracted when the end of the automatic gear shift lever pops out or as in my case when putting the vehicle into park it pops out and breaks off entirely. I believe it to be a defective part that can easily break. My vehicle has less than 70,000 miles. It has not been assessed by an insurance agent or dealership yet.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. The contact stated that the while the vehicle was turned on with the transmission in park(p), the doors would erroneously lock. On several occasions after parking and turning the vehicle off, moments later the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who checked the battery but found no failure. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 39,000.
The air conditioner instead of blowing cold air, it blows hot air. I have taken it from miami to a 3rd party mechanic where it did not helped much. Nobody knew what was the problem. I move to texas and in summer over 100 degrees and having a baby sweat is not good. The temperature as “weather shows -15 degrees. When right now is 99 degrees at 7:10 am central time.
While driving, the locks on the car will unlock then relock quickly, the dash will go black and the motor will rev like I am trying to go in the park position. This has happened several time in town where I live. Update from Aug 11, 2022the first time it happened I took it to the dealership and of course there were no codes and they couldn't find anything wrong. - sandra a. , emporia, us.
My odometer miles was erased about 9 months ago and I cannot retrieve it. A chevy dealership associate looked at it this week (October 31, 2022) and manually could not recover the miles. A gm parts online website suggested it could be a speed sensor (blown fuse) or dash cluster. To diagnose the problem, the dealership wants to perform a diagnostic which costs $120-140 plus parts and labor. This is unjustified: gm and dealerships should be aware of this problem since it is prevalent in chevy Sonics. Gm should back this repair either partially or fully.
The has as well as mileage is not accurate and it constantly changes even while not driving which is adding more miles to car than actually is and you will never know how much gas you have in car truly which is safety concern especially if you are driving on interstate and can’t tell how much gas you have in car and suddenly run out of gas while other are behind you going 70 mph which can cause a wreck.

After original p0011 engine code dealer bought from replaced vvt actuators, oil control solenoid, vcg, timing belt, water pump, antifreeze, idler and tensioner on 10/27 -11/21. Vehicle ran for one week and all thru Dec 2021 intermittently kept running rough and stalling and throwing p0011 code camsgaft position sensor intake and p0301 cylinder 1 misfire. Smelled burning oil too. Replaced all separate throughout month -camshaft position sensor intake, changed oil, spark plugs and now the ignition coil. Each time ran one day and code p0011 kept coming back. Running rough, poor gas mileage and stalls. Have extended warranty going back to dealer bought from.
Vehicle keeps throwing p0011 codes with engine running rough and stalling when moving from stopped or slowing down.
This car just dies on me randomly while driving at high or low speeds and is very dangerous, the dash lights go out sound stops working and you have to stop put it in park and turn car off and restart to get it started again. I have had it to service department and there are no codes generated, this started back in 6/2021 and continues to be a problem.
At around 45,600 miles the odometer and trip meter on my 2013 Sonic stopped displaying numbers and instead shows just 3 dashes. Disconnecting the car's battery for 30 mins, reconnecting, and starting the car displays the mileage for a few seconds and then returns to the ---. Same happens when pulling the fuse for the gauge cluster; the mileage is displayed for a few seconds and then returns to the ---. Attempting to reset the trip meter results in the normal 'beep' but numbers are not displayed. Brought the car to the dealership and since the vehicle is out of warranty they want a nonrefundable deposit of $700 just to diagnose, parts and labor would be an additional bill on top of that. Ridiculous. Since this is likely a computer issue it's beyond the scope of work that can be performed by my trusted local garage and as a result I have not had the issued corrected. This should be a gm recall.
