Automatic Transmission problems of the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Four problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2010

The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift into four-wheel drive independently. The vehicle became stuck in automatic four wheel drive and the contact stated that the vehicle felt as if the wheels were attempting to lock. In addition, the contact stated that he was unable to accelerate past 40 mph. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. The failure mileage was 194,000 and the current mileage 194,882.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2005

While driving vehicle drove erratically. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer, and mechanic determined that sun gear reaction shell needed to be replaced from the transmission.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2000

Transmission gears were ripped apart - like metal fatigue. Pieces cracked off. Truck was only driven - never used for towing. Mostly highway driving - no offroading. Transmission broke up - manufacturing defect. . . . (tiresize: 265/75r16)( dot number: tire size: 265/75r16 ).

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2000

This vehicle was used as a passenger vehicle, never pulled anything more than a small trailer with riding mower, or dirt bikes. It was not used to plow snow or off road. It was a large family sedan that was used on the highway day in and day out. No safety defect listed in summary.
