Wiring problems of the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Six problems related to wiring have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2006

Brake light and turn signal failure. No personal injury or crashes as of yet. Failure of circuit board on back of taillight housing causes the bright feature of assembly not to work. (no brake light or turn signal). Repair consists of total replacement of assembly at $50. 00 each.

2 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2001

Electrical short due to faulty switch that controls outside mirror, caused driver side door to start burning, claim 40-2517-187.

4 Wiring problem

While driving consumer smelled something burning, stopped and saw yellow smoke coming from behind driver's door panel, sparks were flying. Smoke stopped, fuse had blown. Mechanic found that wire to outside mirror switch. After further investigation, it was found that the wire was 14 gauge. The electrical short occured at the mirror switch.

5 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2001

Intermittently vehicle will not start. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and discovered that wires to battery were loose. Since dealer reconnected wires, vehicle stalled out and died. Dealer inspected vehicle, and was not able to duplicate or correct problem.

6 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2000

Inner harness shorted, causing the dome lights to come on when riding over bumps, the accessory light also did not work, the dealer found a loose connection at the rear lighting.
