Nine problems related to tire sidewall have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with cornell 1000 tires, size: p235/75r15. While driving 55 mph, the front end of the vehicle shook severely, especially when traveling up to 65 mph. The contact also stated that the two front wheels wobbled, which were moved to the rear of the vehicle after a tire rotation. The contact also stated that all four tire sidewalls were worn. The tires were not replaced. The contact stated that the failure could be due to the compound or the belt rubber and referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17t019000 (tires). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 194,000 and the tire failure mileage was 5,000.

Was slowing down to make a turn and heard a noise. Pulled over and stopped vehicle. Got out /checked tires , and noticed right rear tire sidewall had blownout from inside outward. Tread remained intact on tire. Not original equipment. Firestone, wilderness ht, p23575r15 with 14,000 miles.
Mtx, lt265/75r16, dot upw 8 man 097, original equipment on a 1999, Chevrolet, Suburban with 22400 miles. All tires have cracks on sidewall, also cracks between tread.
Outside sidewall blewout with no warning. Sidewall shredded. (dot number: vn11 b3a tiresize: lt24575r16).
Front passenger side tire showed cupping, now all 4 tires show sidewall cracking and tread cracking (both on the tread face and sidewall). Tire life I almost over at less than 24000 miles desspite proper inflation and rotation ccndducted since vehicle was purchased. Dunlop tires installed on another vehicle at same adress for a longer period of time andd with mucch greater mileage show none of these signs. ( dot number: urbm053261 tire size: lt245/75r1 ).
Blowout on first tire occurred at 65 mph with 4 people in vehicle, sidewall burst. Firestone dealer asserted that some cut must have ocaused failure. Inflation pressures regularly checked. Second tire failure found at normal inspection. Approximately 4" failure in rubber on side wall. (dot number: 2012ms tiresize: 245/75r16).
Vertical cracks running from tread down sidewall.
This was a replacement tire for a replacement tire for firestones!. Had just purchased this tire when I noticed small cracks in the sidewall. Dealer replaced tire without any problems. (tiresize: 245/75r16)( dot number: tire size: 245/75r16 ).
