general problems of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Ten problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2002

Consumer states that while stopping at a stop sign and without warning the vehicle would acclerate. Dealer notified.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2002

Consumer states while driving 60mph vehicle's speed dropped dramatically to 40mph w/o warning then increased back to driving speed. Consumer advised that problem occurs intermittenly. Ts.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2001

Vehicle was parked and running inside of garage. Heard a noise and engine roared up, and vehicle took off and went though consumer's living room and kitchen. Dealership was aware of problem.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2000

Consumer's wife was pulling inside of a parking space and engine surged while foot was on brake. Surburban jumped curbe and hit a tree. Dealership was aware of problem. There were no injuries. The mechanic stated the problem was caused by throttle sensor failure.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2000

The engine rpm will at times increase while braking. One time the engine speed up significantly after removing foot from gas pedal. The engine rpm will at times pulsate while coasting in gear. This has been an on going problem since new.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/21/1999

Engine accelarates at any given time, excessive rpms , causing accidentin parking garage. In dealership three times for high acceleration , still with no real answer as to what the problem is.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/15/1999

Consumer states the engine speed does not return to idle when the accelerator is released, the vehicle will go 20 to 30 miles per hour on its own, the problem is more persistant when the weather is warm/hot, consumer reported the problem on several occasions only to be told there were no codes stored, finally the manager of the dealership drove the vehicle and determined the problem was a bad idle solenoid, they replaced it and that fixed the problem for about a year, the problem has reoccured and the vehicle is now out of warranty and it continues to run about 1000 rpm for a time after releasing from the accelerator.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Vehicle has variation of sudden accelration; while driving 35 mph, speed would continue if foot is removed from accelerator. Can be sitting in park, once shifted into drive/reverse truck will lunge with force. Please describe details.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Engine does not return to idle when letting off the accelerator pedal, cause unknown.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

When accelerating engine did not return to a normal level. It suppose to return to 800 rpms, instead it hung up at about 700 rpms also, it did this at highway speed. Consumer has contacted dealer, and dealer reset computer and cleaned carbon. However, problem kept returning. This was dangerous because when accelerating and taking foot off of gas pedal vehicle did not slowdown, it stayed right at that speed. Please provide any further information.
