Five problems related to air conditioner have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that there was a loud popping noise coming from the air conditioner compressor. The compressor was locking up and the auxiliary belt failed. The auxiliary belt was replaced, but the popping sound persists. The contact referenced technical service bulletin number 628932 (equipment:electrical:air conditioner). The current mileage was 83,000 and failure mileage was 82,500.
Air conditioner compressor seized up resulting in failure of the entire system and causing it to be contaminated. The dealer recommends replacement of the complete a/c system. Gm has developed a new design implying they are aware of the defects in the system however; they are offering no compensation to the consumer.
2000 Chevrolet Suburban air conditioner compressor bracket broke completely off the engine dropping the compressor and bracket on the steering idler arm and affecting the steering. This is the third failure of the air conditioner system. (compressor failure at 62. 000 2 July 2002, new compressor severe noise at only 32,000 miles on it, hose failure middle of may 2003 and broken bracket on 17 Jul 03 with 101,420 miles on the vehicle).
The air conditioner compressor sheared contaminating the whole system. Gm recommends changing the whole system at a cost of 3to4 thousand dollars. The second compressor has already failed. I have checked into this and happens quite often. Gm needs to step up and issue a recall on these faulty compressor this happens just after the warranty runs out.
I have been through 4 air conditioning systems in 8 months. Each time they have completely replaced the entire system including the compressor. The first time the system actually imploded into the refrigeration lines.
