Five problems related to brakes failed have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact started the ignition and the brake pedal extended to the floorboard without warning when it was depressed. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake cable failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
Total braking system failure (including emergency brake) on my 2000 chevy Suburban. The day before the incident occurred, I noticed the brake pedal going lower than usual when pressing on it. I checked the fluid reservoir and notice that it was almost empty. I then added fluid to the full line on reservoir and that seemed to solve the problem. Next morning on my way to work, the brakes failed as I was approaching a busy intersection. The pedal went all the way to the floor as I was approaching the intersection at about 20 mph. I pressed hard on the emergency brake on a last failed attempt to stop the vehicle. I shifted to lower gears, reverse, and park without success. There was no traffic ahead on the intersection or traffic on the left or to the right approaching as I made a right turn. The Suburban slowed down on its own to a safe speed where I could turn into a driveway off the busy road. I'm not sure what to do with this vehicle. The mechanic tells me that it will cost over 1000 to fix it.
November 18 2000 driving to a mc donald's restaurant went to stop and brakes failed. A loud sound of air and the pedal going all the way to the floor. Thank god I was not driving on a main road or my 3 kids and I would have had an accident and possibly injured. I am aware that this problem has happened to others with the same type of vehicle.
My family and I (2 adults and 2 children) along with 2 other boys (age 14) were driving down a hill and experienced a complete brake failure. My husband attempted to stop at a light and discovered that the brakes were inactive. The road declined steeply for some time and it was a nightmare as he tried everything (e. G. , shifting to lower gear, emergency brake, park) to stop the car. As we were close to a major highway and river, my husband had no choice but to stop the car by crashing into an embankment. Given the speed of the vehicle, it was a horrific crash. I'm still recovering from multiple broken bones. My son had to have extensive surgery on his face. We are lucky to be alive. It appears brake failure in this age and model of chevy is not uncommon and the company is aware of this problem. How can they stand aside and risk so many lives? one month prior to the crash, our car had passed its annual inspection at a chevy dealership. No brakes issues were identified. Between the mental and physical chores of recovering, it has taken me this long to gather the energy to write this complaint. Owners should band together to submit a class action lawsuit. Chevy needs to be held accountable. Our family is lucky to be here. We will never purchase another chevy vehicle again.
Intermittently brake pedal fails. Brake pedal didn't respond when applied to slow down or braking. Vehicle was going 25-35mph. Dealer was notified, and diagnostic reading couldn't determine the cause. Please provide more information.
