Four problems related to differential unit have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
We had to have pinion & side bearings replaced and they reconditioned differentials. This is a family vehicle that does not pull horse trailers or a boat!.
Driving on freeway along carpool lane when the car ahead of us stopped to move to the next lane and we all had to stop. I had a good distance from the vehicle in front of me when I hit the brakes. The brakes went all the way to the floor(literally) but still didn't stop until I crashed into the car in front of me. The abs brakes feels unusual. I also hear a clanking sound on the differential every time I have to decelerate and go back to normal speed or just moving from "park" to "reverse" or from "neutral" to "reverse".
This vehicle has been to a dealer for the 2nd time now to rebuild the front differential and it has only 22000 miles on it.
There is a grinding noise and a vibration coming from the bottom of the vehicle when slowing down. Took to dealer and dealer will replace the differentral. Please provide any further information. Ts.
