Six problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
One morning came out to start my 2005 Suburban and the service airbag message popped on along with the airbag light. Took it to my service center and was told it was a front impact sensor. Was also told this is a common problem on these vehicles. After doing some research online I have found this to be a very common problem rendering the airbag system inop. I believe gm needs to step up and fix the issue with the sensors as not everyone has $400 to fix a faulty sensor. The odometer on my Suburban is 127,000 miles, so by no means driven hard.
I turned my 2005 Suburban on and the air bag light came on. I took it in to the chevy/gm dealer who said, "the right, front, air bag sensor was the cause. " it would cost $375 to fix it. I did not get it fixed at that time. It is dangerous because the air bags are inoperable. The problem occurred at about 150,000 miles. From what I have seen this is a huge problem that needs to be address by the company.
Check air bag light is on. This has happened before and after a few weeks the light may go off. Dealer could not find a problem. There needs to be a recall on this. Thousands of people having the same problem.
For approximately the last 4 years the airbag light has been on indicating an issue with the airbag system. Given all the airbag problems in recent years and the fact this seems to be a common problem with 2005 gm suvs and given airbags are vital safety equipment gm needs to provide owners with these problems a free fix or be forced to recall these vehicles immediately for repairs before alot of people get hurt or killed.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. Upon purchasing the vehicle in October of 2008, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer failed to repair the air bags at the time of purchase. The contact could not have the vehicle registered in the state of texas with the warning indicator illuminated. The dealer denied all liability for the repairs to the air bag. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 85,000. Updated 05/18/09. Updated 05/20/09.
The airbag system has stopped working 6 times since I bought my brand new Suburban. The service air bag light comes on which means the system will not work if in an accident. The have attempted to fix it six times. Now gm stated that they will not do anything further and their solution is for me to buy a new car when my car is only 2. 5 years old and only has 36,000 miles on it.
