48 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Cracked dash, razor-sharp door handles and it cuts out and shakes due to the stabilitrak.
The dash on my 2008 Suburban cracked at around 70,000 miles, in 2012. I reported it then to both my dealer and gm. They called this a cosmetic issue and that they were clearly not responsible, however, many many other Suburbans, tahoes, sliverados, and trucks have the very same issue and at exactly the same spots around the airbag. The cracks are around the passenger side airbag, such that, if the airbag were to deploy, sharp plastic shrapnel would fly into the passenger's face. This is a deadly safety concern that I take extremely serious, such that the situation becomes gm is literally and directly threatening the safety of my family. Pictures are attached which show the safety defect adjacent to the airbag. Please help push gm with addressing this serious deficiency.
Cracked dashboard. The dashboard is cracked in 5 places, which is quite a safety concern. If airbags were to go off, sharp chards of plastic would come flying. Vehicle was stationary when I noticed first crack 5 years ago, all the others have come yearly after that.
The dash started craking by the air bag whle park in the garage and a cople of weeks later another crack appear on top of the cluster.
My main concern is the interior silver coated door handles in my 2008 Suburban. The coating has splintered and is cutting our hands. This seems to be an issue in the 2007 and 2008 model, when I look it up online. I'm wondering why a recall has not been issued for something that is dangerous to me and my children? it is a product that was made poorly and they are happy to charge me $200 per door to fix it! if use broke a mechanism in the door handle then fine, but I've never had a metal door handle peel before! I also have a crack in my dashboard that is near to the passenger air bag, it is slowly growing. I have a feeling if it wasn't garage kept that it would be a lot larger than it has become.
The dash is cracking in several places and most severely at the corner of the airbag on the passenger side. Crack is also large over the speedometer cluster. Car has been garaged mostly. Car currently has 188,00 miles but cracks started appearing about 60,000 miles.
Dashboard began to crack at around 50000 miles. Contacted the dealer. Quoted $1400. Contacted gm. Was told I would need to pay $400 out of pocket as a deductible. I couldn't afford it at the time so I had to pass. But I feel I shouldn't have to pay for a factory defect that gm continues to ignore. Thousands of people have been affected. This is unsafe. The dashboard is cracked around the passenger side air bag which could cause shards of plastic to affect the front and driver upon the airbag being deployed.
Dashboard made a popping sound while I was sitting parked in the running vehicle. Small crack appeared just above instrument cluster. Over the course of the next two years, this crack got progressively worse. An additional crack has appeared in the forward corner around the airbag towards the drivers side. Both of these cracks are large and getting larger. They are in the same place that thousands of others have experienced cracks in these vehicles. It is would be come a hazard in an accident as the dash would most certainly crack further sending shards of plastic throughout the vehicle.
I have several cracks in my dashboard. I took my car to don ringler Chevrolet in temple, TX and they told me there was nothing they could do and that it was not recalled nor covered under warranty. My entire dash moves when you touch it and I'm afraid that either the airbags will go off while I'm driving or won't deploy if I am in a wreck. These cracks have increased in size over time. The small one is the newest crack that appeared over christmas. I first discovered the crack right above the steering wheel in February 2010. At the time, my car was only 1 1/2 years old. I special ordered my Suburban in the summer of 2008.
The dash has cracked around the airbag and around the defroster and more crack starting. This has been a major problem for so many.
Dashboard cracked in several places, concerned if airbags deploy, may send sharp plastic throughout cabin.
Dashboard has major cracks around airbags and electrical components are exposed to the sun.
Dashboard of 2008 Chevrolet Suburban cracked in 2 places, including around passenger side airbag and above drivers side instrument cluster/steering wheel. Concerned for the proper deployment of the airbag during potential crash due to the cracked dash that surrounds the airbag. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Hundreds if not thousands of other similar vehicles possess the same manufacturing defect in the dashboard and all have reported large cracks in the exact same area.
