36 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dashboard cracked in multiple places. Cracking up to the edge of the airbag. If airbag is deployed the shrapnel from the dashboard could cause airbag to deflate rendering it useless and cause injury.
Dash cracked and totally inploded. Loose parts everywhere. These parts fly everywhere when moving vehicle. Airbag loose and probally could implode without wrecking accident. Definately a hugh safety factor. Maybe nahta would like to drive my vehicle with couple top execs from gm over country roads and Dodge loose scraphnel. 05/07/2019.
Dash has continued to crack - over 4 cracks that has affected the defrost vent, dash and now I receive periodic airbag warnings upon starting ignition and/or parking. I am concerned as a driver, mother of 3 and caregiver of elderly mom that the air bags will deploy at anytime and/or not function correctly upon a crash or collision.
The rear seats are "loose" and rattle on bumpy roads. Can't be tightened. Infant car seat is loose using latch system. Dashboard is also cracked in several areas and just keeps getting worse. Wear and tear is accelerating because of these issues.
Dashboard is cracking in several locations. First crack appeared several months ago near passenger airbag, new crack appeared on driver side above instrument panel. Contacted chevy, and they will not cover any part of the repair. This problem is well documented on the internet (search gm cracked dash).
When you engage vehicle in drive, there is a very jerky, push-pull when accelerating until traction control sensor flashes and turns stabilitrak off. This can be very dangerous when pulling out into traffic and the vehicle does not want to smoothly accelerating to a safe merge in speed. I also have an issue with the dashboard cracking and causing the speaker built into the dash to rattle uncontrollable - this is very irritating and a safety issue as it causes me to take my eyes/hands off the wheel to try and stop the rattle!.
Dash cracked around passenger air bag. Not sure when it happened. It's a common problem.
Dashboard is cracked in several places from driver side to passenger side. It has cracked all around the passenger side airbag. In the event of an accident I'm very concerned the dash will interfere with the airbag deployment. I am also concerned it will become like pieces of flying shrapnel. The dash is defective and should have a recall.
The dashboard cracked in 2 places out of the blue. One location is consistent with many I have seen shown on youtube and in a potential lawsuit about defective dashboards in gm trucks.
Dash cracks: the dash of my Suburban 2009 has a big crack on the side of the driver, it seems that this is a common issue with other owners OH chevy trucks bought on specific years. The big concern is that in an event of a collision plastic pieces of the dash will easily break and hit driver or passenger causing bad injuries.
My dash has cracked in several locations, to the point that pieces are going to start falling inward. The largest cracks are around the driver side hump above the cluster. This crack was not due to any neglect or banging. It just appeared one morning. It happened about 6 months ago. Thank you.
I backed into another vehicle and my dash cracked and spread across the front.
Dashboard cracking in multiple places. By passenger air bag and drivers side above instrument cluster.
Dash cracking at corner of airbag compartment. May be due to heat and/or stress (design defect).
2009 the Suburban has a center mounted dash speaker. The weight of this speaker, over time, has caused the dash to crack near the passenger airbag and the steering wheel. I am concerned with the safety of the passenger in the case the airbag is deployed and the dash explodes?.
The dashboard cracked in two places at around 50,000 miles. There is a crack between the passenger side airbag cover and the front edge of the dashboard and one over the instrument panel to the front edge of the dashboard. I was told initially that this is simply a cosmetic issue, but subsequent reports suggest that these cracks may cause the dashboard to splinter with airbag deployment, causing preventable harm to passengers.
Dashboard is slowly but surely cracking and falling apart on my top of the line ltz. One large crack creeping from the window to the steering wheel and a large piece cracked and fell out near the corner of the passenger side airbag. My dashboard is now vibrating heavily.
Cracked dash may damage passenger side airbag if activated.
Dashboard cracked along passenger airbag interface. Known defect unremedied by oem. Sharp edges due to crack can hinder airbag deployment as well as shrapnel from the dash in a crash could injure occupants. This is a known defect in plastic manufacture by gm for model years 2007-2011.
Cracking dashboard. 2nd cracking dashboard.
My dashboard is cracked and has sharp edges along the cracks. I'm afraid in an impact those sharp pieces will be flying at me and my passengers or completely impede the airbags from inflating as they should. It started with one crack, now cracked on several places, it seems the more I drive it on city roads the worse it gets. The dash might just fall onto my lap one day.
Within the first two years of owning the vehicle it developed cracks all along the dashboard. The cracks got bad enough that recently a large piece of the dashboard fell out. I have attempted to get Chevrolet to help pay for replacing it but they are unwilling and I cannot afford the entire bill alone. I am worried that the airbags will not work and that having electrical and mechanical exposed will cause harm to myself or the vehicle.
The dash is severely cracked in 3 places with the largest crack above the steering wheel area.
Dash cracked near airbag - safety problem.
Dash panel has cracks on driver and passenger side. Both motor mounts are defective. Engine burns oil badly.
Dash has recently cracked around air bag and above gages. Took to dealer and they said too bad. We can replace for $2000. 00.
Dash is cracked around passenger side airbag.
The dash has three cracks and missing a triangular shape that cracked and fell through the dash. The cracks are worsening. I was advised safe light that photos are taken of dash damage because these cracks are common in these areas for this vehicle. Also, the inside door handles are peeling off and have caused many bleeding cuts on my hands as well as my passengers. Also a known defect in this vehicle. Photos included. I am not certain of when exactly the cracks began or when exactly the peeling began.
Dash on Suburban has developed multiple cracks that could pose a safety issue in the event an airbag may fire.
I have been dealing with this for a couple months, and it is very frustrating. I have a 2009 chevy Suburban with approximately 71,500 miles on it. The Suburban is always garaged, and we woke up one morning to a large crack, which has now caved in, on the dash right above the hump of the steering wheel and a crack on the passenger side airbag. We called gm and spoke to shannon at ext 21345 and received a case number. We went to our local chevy dealer for an estimate of approximately $1,000, and then called gm back with that estimate. Gm called the dealer and then the dealer lowered the price to $350 - $400. I still find this unacceptable. I know what gm sent me is a standard reply. I do not, and will not accept a phone call that says it will be $400 plus dollars to replace my dash. This is not my doing. This is a defect in a gm product. It needs to be covered and gm needs to step up and show the customer some of the respect it wants from said customer.
The dashboard is cracked in multiple places.
I bought my 2009 Suburban new in November 2009. But at around 60k miles the dashboard cracked. Would this affect the airbags or pose as a safety issue? I have 3 young children in the truck so this better not be a threat to any of us.
I also have one of the affected cracked front dashes that have been posted. The dash is cracked in three places, one over the drivers console which is caving inward, another on the left side of the passengers airbag and the other in the far right corner of the dash. This has a potential to seriously injure someone in the vehicle if the car is in an accident. Chevrolet maintains that there is not an issue with the dashes from any of the following vehicles: 2007-2013 avalance, silverado, Suburban, tahoe and Cadillac escalade. All of these vehicles in that range have the same dash component. There are many cases listed on a Chevrolet forum website. Replacement and cost to repair the faulty dash is solely up to the dealer not Chevrolet.
The dashboard on my vehicle started cracking and just gets worse year after year.
I bought a new 2009 chevy Suburban in Nov. 2009 and eventually traded it in for another vehicle in July 2015 as the cracked dashboard concerned me. It had 2 cracks, both very close to the airbags. To the best of my knowledge, it started to crack in 2011. However, other defects followed, such as front row center seat lid breaking, drivers and front psgr seat rear pockets breaking, interior door handle started to peel and cut my wife's fingers a few times, liftgate's struts failed in sept. 2012, got it replaced (paid out of pocket about $200), but broke again in Dec. 2013. On the exterior, the side molding started to curl up in 2010, very embarrassing to see.
