The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v053000 (air bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
M y dash panel has had a small crack for years but the entire passenger air bag section lifted this morning. The dash panel is jagged and unsafe.
I took my 2013 Suburban to a chevy dealership in san jose CA to have the airbag recall repaired. Upon completion, my airbag light and "service airbag" message were still on. I asked why this was still on. They said the recall issue was fixed, but did not know why the light and message were still on. But wanted to charge over $1400 to diagnose the issue. I filed a complaint w/ the chevy's California customer engagement center, and escalated to one of their supervisors. I emailed them the picture I took of the light and the message. He forward it to their technicians. He contacted me a week later and stated that the indicator of the service bag warning (code 212328790) fault is present, and that the airbags will not deploy. But because this matter was not part of the recall, I would have to be responsible to pay for the repair, or contact NHTSA to file a complaint and have them issue another recall. I understand that I am responsible for the wear-and-tear on my vehicle. The airbag warning light and message stating "service airbag" is something that was never in may control, to maintain and/or replace. This was a defective piece of an equipment that I wasn't responsible for. I am requesting NHTSA issue another recall for this matter. Thank you. Sincerely, paul tran (408)309-8138 fftran@yahoo. Com.

I have been notified of a dangerous airbag recall on my 2013 Suburban. The parts are not available to fix the issue at this time. This is unacceptable. My vehicle is not safe to drive. Chevy is not returning our phone calls. Apparently it is ok with them for me to drive my family around with what is equivalent to a hand grenade in my glove box.

I want my airbag recall replaced but there is still no time frame as to when I can go take it and get it fixed by the manufacturer. . . This is dangerous.

Recall no remedy available extended time frame.
Dashboard cracking - started right by the passenger airbag on the dash. Concerned about impact on airbag deployment.
Dashboard is cracked where dash meets passenger airbag and also on driver's side.
Dashboard adjacent to passenger airbag cracked spontaneously while parked at my house. Integrity of dashboard, were the airbag to deploy, is now questionable.
Large cracks in dash panel in front of steering column and passenger air bags developed over night. Separated section appears to vibrate without support of underlying bracket.
Without any impact or any other stress whatsoever, a crack has appeared at the front left corner of the passenger airbag and extends diagonally toward the windshield for several inches.
Plastic dash is cracking around passenger airbag posing a safety hazard.
Multiple cracks in dashboard next to airbags.
Cracking dash around air bag location. Will cause pieces of plastic to explode in the air if air bag is deployed.
My vehicle is less than three years old from date of purchase (oct 2013) and current mileage is just shy of 58k. My dashboard around the airbags is cracked on the passenger side. It is also cracked just above the driver side instrument cluster. My vehicle was not moving, it was parked in my driveway. My concern is in the event of a vehicle accident should the airbags deploy that the broken dashboard pieces will become projectiles. Upon further research via social media and various news sources, I have learned that this is an issue with gm products (avalanche, escalade, sierra, silverado, Suburban, tahoe, yukon) from 2007 to 2014. These vehicles should be recalled to have the dashboards replaced with a more suitable material that will not crack in less than three years.
I previously filed a report concerning the dashboard cracking in 2 spots. On the passenger side the crack is at the top left corner of where the airbag sits. This has been brought to gm's attention they've fought replacing these dashboards. Now you have issued a recall on the airbags. How are they to be repaired correctly and made safe when the plastic seated around them is cracked and defective thus leaving us still exposed to shattered plastic from a defective dashboard. The dashboard replacement should also be part of the recall!.
This is the third Suburban I have owned in the last 7 years. I have owned a 2008, 2011 and now a 2013. They have all had the same problem. The dash board cracks at the left top corner of the passenger airbag. I am afraid that if the air bag goes off the dash may separate into pieces becoming flying objects. In my current 2013 vehicle the dash has also started to crack on the dash panel on the drivers side.
