39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2025

I’m filing this complaint regarding a serious safety concern with my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle is affected by NHTSA recall 25v274 related to a potential defect in the crankshaft or connecting rods. Gm has confirmed the recall, but there is currently no fix available, and dealerships are not equipped to inspect the engine to determine if it’s defective. This leaves us driving a vehicle with a known risk of sudden engine failure, especially at highway speeds or while towing. In addition, my vehicle is also experiencing a transmission issues and is expected to be in the shop for up to three months for repairs. The combination of an unresolved engine recall and a failing transmission makes this vehicle unsafe and unreliable. We are a family of six with four small children (two in car seats, two in boosters). We purchased this Suburban specifically for safety, towing capacity, and long-distance driving. Right now, we are left without a safe or functional vehicle. Gm refuses to provide a comparable rental and has offered only $44/day, which doesn’t cover anything close to what we need. We’ve attempted to work through gm and our local dealership to resolve the issue, but we’ve been passed back and forth with no solution. I’m concerned that gm is knowingly allowing vehicles with unresolved safety defects to remain on the road with families inside them. I’m asking NHTSA to investigate the handling of this recall and the delays in the transmission repair that are putting families like mine at risk.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2025

The 2023 Suburban started shuttering on idle and loosing power on drive due to a misfire in bank 4, the fuel injector was changed, but the problem persisted. And now the dealer says that I need to change all 8 injectors. 2900 job on a car with 54000 miles. Crazy.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

Driving on the expressway my vehicle would not accelerate over 53mph. I then noticed the vehicle losing power where I then had to pull over onto the shoulder. The vehicle lost power and would not restart or go into neutral. Ultimately the vehicle had to be towed.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2025

Without warning my 2023 chevy Suburban started making a terrible noise, lost all power and died in the middle of the road. I was unable to restart the vehicle. It was towed to the nearest dealer 75 miles away and has been sitting there for 30 days with no idea when an engine will be available.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2025

6. 2l l87 engine failure with 36,000 miles on it. While driving on the highway and attempting to pass another vehicle that was traveling on a 2-lane highway the car suddenly died, and the transmission shifted into neutral. When I noticed the vehicle would not accelerate, I looked down and saw the push to start warning and tried to restart the vehicle with no response. I had to allow the vehicle I was passing to get ahead of me before I could swap back into that lane to get out of the way of oncoming traffic eventually coasting onto the side of the road to a complete stop. The vehicle I was passing slowed down after the engine died not knowing what I was doing and drove right beside me blocking the lane until I signaled for them to go ahead so I could get back into the lane. If the vehicle in the oncoming lane had not slowed down to allow me time to get back into the proper lane a head on collision would have occurred. This 2023 vehicle was purchased used 14days prior from a gm certified dealership and had no warning lamps on the dash and showed no indication a failure was about to occur. The vehicle was driving perfectly normal until the failure occurred. Once the vehicle was towed to the dealership it was determined the engine had failed due to crankshaft bearings. The dealership explained there were no available replacement gm engines and could possibly be a lead time of 6 months before a replacement engine could arrive. I purchased the vehicle for $60,000 and the engine fails 14 days later and now I could be without a vehicle for 6 months and the dealership did not have any loaner vehicles available.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

My 2023 high country Chevrolet Suburban's v8 6. 2l engine failed 6 hours from home while our family was en route to colorado. It was towed to the closest city and the dealership informed me the engines are on a nationwide backorder and it could be months before one is made available. The dealership stated that gm will not release information as to where the customer is on "the list" of recipients. My car has 44,000 miles and is well maintained. It has been in the shop for other repairs - suspension issues, tech package problems (wifi, onstar, google and navigation not working properly). Spoke with gm representative and was told if the engine makes it onto the recall list the repair will be expedited. Not sure how that is possible with so many engines failing. Maybe gm/Chevrolet will be forced to increase production.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5. 3l v8 engine has experienced lifter failure twice within less than [20,000 miles]. Both times the vehicle developed a misfire, engine belt like noise and was diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealership as having collapsed afm/dfm lifters. All oil changes have been done at the dealership using gm-approved oil. The issue appears to be a known problem on 2021–2023 gm vehicles with the 5. 3l l84 engine. Gm has a technical service bulletin (pip5776h) regarding lifter collapse, but no permanent fix has been provided. I am concerned this could lead to engine failure or stalling while driving, creating a safety hazard.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2025

Transmission valve control failed. Rear wheels locked up. Vehicle downshifted quickly. No injuries. Vehicle is at dealership for repairs. No warnings.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

Middle of engine started making a tapping sound. Went to closest dealership service department. They said it was most likely an issue with the valve train but we should be able to get home. Within 10 miles, the engine completely seized up while on the highway loosing all power. Was able to get to the side of the highway. Towed the vehicle to the dealership that we bought from. They said it was going to need a new engine just as soon as they could find one.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2025

Without any warning driving 65 mph down a freeway the Suburbans motor totally shut down. We had to cross over 2 lanes without getting hit by all the traffic. No dashboard lights ever came on until after we got onto the shoulder and sat there for an hour then the check engine light came on. We got stranded 2 hours from our vacation spot in az and now we’re stranded 1,600 miles from our home in mn. After 5 hours in the middle of the desert the tow truck finally showed up and towed the vehicle to sands dealership in surprise az. We have never had any other problems before this happened. Never thought at 2023 vehicle with 30,000 miles would blow motor. Waiting to hear from gm on what our options are to get it fixed and get us back home!.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

The engine seized while I was driving. The dealer discovered a crack in the engine block, which caused the oil to leak out. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired at 60,000 miles. The dealer replaced the engine with a brand-new one. So, I had to cover the full repair cost of approximately $6,830. 29 out of pocket.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

I was cruising at 45 - 50 mph and the vehicle went into neutral, shut off, would not restart, and would not shift into drive. I pulled into a publix. I pressed the start /stop button and the dash turned off. I turn pressed the brake and pressed the ignition button and the Suburban started up. Drove out of the parking lot and began accelerating when the vehicle shut off again. I could not restart the vehicle. I was able to coast into a gas station parking lot, but half of the vehicle was sticking out into the road. The vehicle would not go into neutral and would not start. The vehicle was towed to palm Chevrolet in ocala, florida.

My 6. 2l v8 engine blew up while I was driving across bridge and I barely had enough time to get it off the road out of traffic.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

I was on [xxx] in athens, GA. Going about 65mph in the left lane, casually passing a slow truck. It was rainy, in a construction zone, heavy traffic. With no warning lights or indication there was a problem the engine suddenly died and shifted itself into neutral. I had just started going up hill, no left lane median but I managed to barely make the right shoulder, when the vehicle came to a stop it shifted into park, from that point forward the vehicle was locked down. I was so close to the traffic I had to fold the drivers mirror. I literally sat on the passenger side of the truck with my seat belt fastened because I expected to be hit. Took about 1. 5 hours for tow truck. The tow truck driver was nearly hit trying to load the truck, several accidents were narrowly avoided by people trying to move over. Truck taken to auto gallery Chevrolet in commerce GA, after three weeks they confirmed the engine had to be replaced and it would be done under warranty. I have not been told the exact nature of the failure, but they did confirm the engine could not be rotated. They could not tell me how long it would take to find and engine but there was another vehicle with the same issue that was ahead of me. To the best of by knowledge Chevrolet has accepted the failure report completed by the technician but have not otherwise engaged. I have not been provided any documentation from the dealership. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2025

I was driving the vehicle at approximately 45 mph when the vehicle suddenly had no engine power. There were no warning signals or symptoms of an issue that would indicate there was a problem, but the dashboard told me the vehicle needed a restart. I was able to pull the vehicle out of traffic at a cross street and coast to a stop in a parking lot. Had I not been where I was at the moment when the engine failed, or had there been oncoming traffic that would have required me to stop coasting, I would not have been able to pull safely out of traffic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was purchased. They told me the next day that is was an internal engine failure.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

Traveling [xxx] on [xxx] through pascagoula, ms at approximately 70mph. The engine revved high then put itself into neutral and shutdown. I was able to coast safely to the shoulder of the road. There had been no prior warning of potential problems. The vehicle engine seized up and could not be placed into neutral for the tow service to safely load it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

Traveling at high speed on major highway and engine stopped. Unable to get car restarted and in fact the instrument panel and information center blanked out. Was forced to have vehicle towed approximately 60 miles to purchasing dealership for diagnosis. Dealer indicates engine is seized and will require replacement. Vehicle has had excellent, verifiable, maintenance record. We have owned this vehicle for approximately 18 months and currently has approximately 62,000 miles. Upon research, I have learned that our vehicle is not the only gm product to have this premature failure.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

January 19, 2025, driving on interstate 90 westbound at mile marker 150, 4 miles east of moorcroft, wyoming, the vehicle lost power and engine quit. We made it to the side of the road and vehicle would not start. The temperature was negative 5 degrees. With cell phone service, we were able to secure a ride and a towing company before we got extremely cold in the car. The vehicle was towed by manning's towing of gillette, wyoming to white's frontier motors, 444 skyline drive, gillette, wy 82718. After 10 days in the shop, the service department diagnosed the engine was inoperable and the vehicle would need a new engine. There was no indication of the engine failure prior to its failure. To date I have had 15 communications with the service department at the dealership and gm motors with no resolution or date of repair.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2025

Wife is rn at a trauma hospital going to work in the morning on a busy highway. While in front of hospital truck started to indicate to hit starter button. Truck was already running! wife stopped at red light. Truck stopped running would not start. Stuck in middle of morning rush hour traffic had to have truck towed to dealership. At the dealership they indicated they found metal parts in the oil pan. They indicated a further look into the engine indicated it was beyond repair and had to be replaced. 61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2025

In October 2024, the vehicle just shut off while we were driving down the road. Had to pull off to the side and got it going after about 5 minutes. Couldn't get the vehicle to replicate the problem so nothing chevy could do. No check engine light. No codes were given. On January 4th the vehicle started making a horrible noise. But then stopped making the noise on January 5th. Called olympia, washington Chevrolet to get it in to be looked at. Soonest appointment they had was February 5th. I made the appointment. February 11th, the engine seized and quick working completely. February 13th, had the vehicle towed to the nearest Chevrolet. Getting the vehicle into neutral and on the tow truck was terrifying. Makes me question the transmission. My vehicle has been at Chevrolet since January 13th. Today is March 11th. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle once it does get fixed. It has left me stranded twice. Once when it just shut off and another when it actually broke down for good.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

I was driving my family to san antonio for a vacation when the vehicle suddenly stopped working. The display read restart engine but the car just abruptly stopped and I was forced to pull to the side of the road. Once the car came to a complete stop the car shifted into park and could not shift out of park. The car would not start, display would read conditions not met? I had to have the car towed to the dealership. They are giving me a hard time.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

When traveling at highway speeds our vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. Driving in the passing lane of [xxx] at 75 mph our 2023 Chevrolet Suburban rst 6. 2 lost all engine power and went into neutral. We were barely able to make it over to the right breakdown lane without getting hit and making it with no power. We were stranded on the busy interstate for three hours with my wife and three young kids in a very dangerous location. They were scared and because we barely made it into the breakdown lane and so close to speeding traffic had to stand outside of the vehicle close to the woods further from dangerous traffic. The Suburban was flatbedded to nearest Chevrolet dealer where we were told the engine was seized and would need to be totally replaced. We were lucky to be alive but now stranded 1000 miles away from home as we were returning from a vacation in florida. The sudden lose of all engine power traveling on the highway with our entire family was both scary and dangerous. The Suburban has now been in the shop for three weeks with no date in sight to be ready and 1000 miles away. This was a truly dangerous situation and thankfully we came out unscathed but I fear someone else may experience the same type of failure and not be so lucky. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

On January 1st driving east bound on road 520 in central florida. I was driving around 65mph when the vehicle suddenly shut off. The displayed showed a warning saying that something of the sort that I needed to press the brake to start the engine even though I was driving normally. I had to coast to the side of the road and I pressed the brake. Once the brake was engaged the vehicle immediately went to park and will not start. I press the ingition button and the screen would go blank and no sound or warnings were displayed. I had to call the police to provide a safety as the vehicle was in a very dangerous area and all my family was on the vehicle. The police laid down flares and I contacted a tow truck using onstar. Onstar was unable to communicate with the vehicle to diagnosed the issue and no warnings or errors were displaying. The vehicle was towed to carl black Chevrolet of orlando florida. The dealer stated that the engine is locked (l87) and was not able to turn, therefore the vehicle does not start. The dealership technicians have informed that the vehicle needs a new engine and gm needs to approved, the vehicle is still under warranty and I've contact gm and until today, 17 days later, gm has not responded or allowed the dealership to fix my vehicle.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2024

While driving my family home from our christmas vacation on the garden state parkway (NJ) the engine shut off and would not restart. This happened on a stretch of the highway with no shoulder while traveling at 65mph. Thankfully we were able to coast far enough to a section of highway with a shoulder. This incident left my [xxx] , [xxx] , my wife and I and our dog stranded in the freezing cold 100 miles from home. After a stressful next few days the Chevrolet dealership diagnosed it as blown bearings in the motor. It has now been over three weeks and no word from gm when a new motor will be available. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2024

I was driving on [xxx] in rural montana (zero cell phone coverage) on [xxx] (freezing weather, snow packed roads). Without warning the Suburban just shut down. It seemed to still have "power". Interior lights worked ect. But the engine just died. I tried to pull mostly off of the road but I couldn't get it entirely off of the road because of the snow pushed off of the road by snow plows. I tried to restart the vehicle several times but it would not turn over. I assumed it was an electrical issue at the time. There was zero warning that there was any engine issue. When a mechanic finally had the opportunity to look into the issue he told me the engine has seized up. I had to walk several miles in the cold hoping to get cell phone service to get to a place to warm up. I also couldn't get the vehicle off of the road and I was sure the vehicle was going to be hit or cause an accident on the narrow highway. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2024

Complete engine failure on 2023 Chevrolet Suburban 6. 2l. On October 31, 2024 while on the interstate. The truck shut off twice with no warning. I was able to make it to the side of the interstate twice to restart. The truck was taken to serpentini Chevrolet and they stated no issues were found and send the vehicle back on the road. On December 13,2024 while on a state route, speed limit 55, 12,231 miles the Suburban abruptly slowed down and violently started to shake and knock. I pulled off to the side of the state route and waited approx 2 hours for the vehicle to be towed. The vehicle was towed to serpentini Chevrolet and they stated the engine was blown and needed replaced. The vehicle was at the dealership until February 13, 2025 when the engine was replaced. The recall was released in April 2025 at which time the vehicle was taken in for the oil change “repair”. The truck now has 20,200 miles and is lacking power and starting to shake when accelerating from 0-50mph. I will be scheduling additional service in the coming week. While going through the blown engine, gm stopped responding to emails, did not compensate for months of payments I incurred while they had the vehicle and they are still selling unsafe vehicle.
