I have 2 2001 chevys with abs problems. Suburban and silverado pickup. When coming to a slow stop, the brakes will release like one ice, but one dry pavement.
: the contact stated while driving 10mph and below, the abs engaged and the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle hit a dumpster, but only received minor damage to the vehicle's bumper. The incident happened on private property, therefore no police were called. The vehicle's abs system was replaced and cleaned on four prior occasions, but still has the same problem. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, concerning the abs. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
On 1/4/04, we were traveling down i95 in florida. As we approached an overpass, the traffic had come to a stop. I applied the brakes and truck slowed down, but when it reached around 10 mph, the truck kept going. I had both feet on the brake and the truck wouldn't stop. I hit the car in front of me (2 adults, 3 children) who in turn hit the car in front of them (2 adults). No one was injured. When we got home, I went to change the brakes and noticed the rotors were flaking and disintegrating.
While driving straight at 25 mph on residential street. The steering wheel locked and brakes were then applied. Speed reduced. Brake pedal would not depress on 2nd "pump" of brake pedal and experienced loss of brakes. Used emergency brake pedal to bring vehicle to complete stop. Engine is still running. "check gage" lamp is on. Steering wheel is still locked. Had to turn off engine and restart engine to unlock steering wheel and regain use of brakes. This system "lock up" would have resulted in a major accident if this occured at highway speed or if a turn was needed or while a turn was been executed. Dt.
Consumer stated that when coming to a stop the abs would engage causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified. Mr.

No summary( dot number: ).
I had to stop to avoid an accident and the brakes locked without the antilock system engauging. There must be some kind of problem with the antilock system. This was my third Suburban. I sold the vehicle one month ago.
At interstate speeds vehicle pulls hard (!) to left. Problem is intermittent occuring only occasionally. Steering is eratic, particularly on rough or uneven surfaces. Problem is constant. Steering sensor replaced once. Vehicle pulls to right at all speedsall the time dealer states that vehicle meets factory specs. Serious intermittent drive train vibration happens at any speed and may persist for 40 or 50 miles. Have been to two dealers for a total of 7 trips. Problems persist. Chevrolet contacted - no help. This vehicle is unsafe!!! help!.
Conditions were snow and ice. Both times I had recently switched between 2wd & 4wd. I don't recall which position drive was in. Both times depressing the brake pedal produced very little braking effect, with one time my car went thru a busy intersection (I thought I was lucky to not have accident).
