1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

Year: 2019 make: GMC model: Suburban mileage: approximately 125,000 miles (purchased under 90,000 miles) 1. Transmission failure my vehicle is experiencing clear signs of transmission failure, including: •hard downshifting/clunking •rpm fluctuations while cruising •shuddering between approximately 30–50 mph •vibrations while idling •hesitation and irregular shifting these symptoms have progressively worsened and are consistent with widespread complaints I have found from other 2019 Suburban owners. This appears to be a known issue affecting multiple vehicles. 2. Rear liftgate / electrical malfunction the rear trunk/liftgate has closed on its own without warning multiple times. I have personally been struck in the head several times as a result. This presents a serious injury risk, especially for families loading children or cargo. There is clearly an electrical or sensor malfunction causing this behavior. 3. Automatic emergency braking (aeb) system activating randomly the most alarming issue is that the automatic emergency braking system has activated on its own multiple times while driving on the turnpike with no obstruction present. This has nearly caused accidents on several occasions. Unexpected braking at highway speeds creates an extremely dangerous situation for both my family and surrounding drivers. These issues are not minor inconveniences — they are serious safety hazards. Sudden braking, unintended liftgate closure, and transmission failure all create significant risk of injury or collision. Given the number of similar complaints publicly reported by other owners, I am requesting that NHTSA formally investigate these defects and determine whether a recall should be issued for affected 2019 GMC Suburban vehicles. I am extremely concerned for the safety of my family and others on the road. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and advise if additional information is needed. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b).

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/07/2025

I pulled on to the road and I heard a loud knocking and my vehicle started skipping and wouldn't go. The lights on the dash lit up and said, "brake failure" and "emergency brake failure" and I had no brakes. I managed to coast into a parking lot. The engine light was on. I turned the vehicle off and waited about 5 minutes and turned it back on, the engine light remained. The first time this happened I was going down the road and the vehicle started sputtering, the emergency brake light came on the dash and the car shut off. It has a rough idle when you start it. I am terrified of this car. I have grandbabies in the car with me, had I been on the highway either time I would have caused a terrible accident. The dealer says they can't get the car to do it so they can't fix anything. It has happened twice so you know it will again.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/22/2023

Automatic emergency braking system activated at ~77mph. Essentially I had started braking appropriately and at about the same time the aeb system seemed to conclude more breaking was needed. This led to brief loss of vehicle control when brakes completely locked at high rate of speed ~77mph. According to vehicle manual this system should not activate at speed great than 50mph (photo attached). This is dangerous because I could have lost control and/or someone behind me could smash into me. My vehicle does not have adaptive cruise. Vehicle and other systems otherwise work perfectly. As a side note the extreme brake application at high speed caused cargo within the vehicle to slam forward and destroy the windshield, in addition to being a scary event.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. Additionally, the windshield wipers were inoperable. On another occasion while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was a loss of communication with the control module, steering, gateway module, engine, body control module, and the brakes. The dealer retrieved dtc codes: u0101, u0131, u0146, u152b, u160f, and u1561. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

With cruise control activated, at least 10 times since I bought this expensive vehicle the automated emergency braking activated at highway speeds - causing the vehicle to full brake without warning and nearly causing an accident each time (handling risk and risk of being impacted from behind by a following vehicle). I have formally reported this issue to dealers in mn and mt, and they only thing they said was they could not duplicate the condition during brief test rides and this was not a know problem. I personally know this was a known problem and gm did a safety recall for this condition on my15-20 Suburbans. This condition is definitely an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. In additional, the original tires supplied by gm (firestone) failed under normal driving conditions after only about 35,000 miles, and both gm and firestone denied there was any warranty coverage. Since then, new les schwab tires failed at about the same mileage. Something is obviously not right with this vehicle, and this condition is also an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. Finally, last week my front passenger wheel cracked. I have not hit anything significantly hard with that wheel - but it is nonetheless cracked. This is also obviously defective and an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph over a railroad crossing, the braking system erroneously activated causing the vehicle to stop abruptly. During the failure there were no vehicles or trains nearby to cause the forward collision avoidance system to become activated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times and only at the same railroad crossing. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and experienced the failure while on a test drive over the railroad crossing. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 50,000.
