2000 chev Suburban parking brakes lost effectiveness about 40000 miles. At 79550 miles all pads, rotors and parking brake linings were replaced. Very similar to many other complaints to NHTSA. One side lining was good, the other gone. One rear rotor could have been resurfaces, the other very bad. Good life for service brakes. Very poor life for seldom used parking brakes.

Parking brake failed vehicle inspection. Mechanic replaced parking lever assembly because of a stretched cable. Still wouldn't work. Found malfunctioning parking brake adjuster. Local dealer says he is selling between 10-15 parking lever assemblies a month. Inspection station says they are rejecting on average 15-20 vehicle inspections a month from new Suburbans because of emergency brake failure.
Emergency brake cable engaged by itself sporadically. Also excessive wear of brake pads, 3 sets of pads wore out from 8,000 miles to 48,000 miles of wear/ rotors were replaced due to defective hub. Also, 2 brake sensors and 2 sets of brake calipers were replaced. Dealer notified, and most repairs and labor was done under warranty, other repairs were done at consumer's cost.
