We were driving through the desert at 74 miles per hour in 115 degree temperature when our goodyear wrangler rt/s p265/70r16/111s had a complete blow out on the freeway. Our tires are only a couple months old and we had a complete safety check including tire pressure before leaving on our trip. The tire side was completely destroyed on the exterior wall of the tire.
In 2002 my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe (@7800 miles)experienced a total (both sides)sidewall failure on one of the firestone wilderness le tires. I filed a complaint with you at that time. I had 2 questions; 1- were there any other reports of such catastrophic failure of this tire? 2- are these tires safe? I received no response from your agency! last week another one of these tires (@28,500 miles)failed(one side wall completely came apart). So, I guess that answers question#2. I've survived 2 of these failures now while many people have been less fortunate and firestone and gm rake in the $. So, now I'm forced to pay for another set of tires or ride out another failure or 2. I'll spend the $ because I care about the safety of myself and my passengers!!!!.
Blowout (outside sidewall). Tires were used on a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe with only 17,000 miles use. Speed of the vehicle at time of incident was approx 60mph. This occurred at night when temperature was about 58 degrees. I have included this information so you can see that neither excessive speed or temperature was a contributing factor. Ts.
The consumer was checking tires for inspection when he noticed that the left front tire side wall was cracked on the outside. (firestone wilderness le p26570r16). The dealer has been notified.
While driving at 50 mph half of left rear tire came off the rim , sidewall separated. Tire size p26570r16, dot number 8x72wl1300. Separation was on both sidewalls, dealer determined failure was a manufacturers defect and replaced tire and rim.
Tire size 26570r16, dot 8x72wl21101, original equipment on Chevrolet, Tahoe, 2001 with 6558 miles. Consumer drove about 10 miles at low speeds when right rear tire sidewall exploded, no prior warning or tread separation. Chevrolet dealer will replace all 4 tires with goodyear tires. Tire was a firestone wilderness le.
