1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

There is a recall #04004. "brake hydro-boost relief valve" but my VIN# is not on the list. Over 64,000 vehicles were affected and there is a "#1" on the mounting surface. All of the units detected a machining error in the relief bore cavity for modules produced from a machine identified as "fadal #1" this can and has caused my 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe to have no power assist with my steering and no power brakes. I have found myself holding two feet on the brake pedal at a red light. And can not operate in small spaces such as parking garages and certain parking stalls. I wanted to know if there is something more that I can do in regards to this particular recall and find out if there is some mistake as far as my VIN# not being recognized but yet experiencing the same problems. My vehicle has become inoperable for that it is unsafe to drive with the no power assist and could cause a major accident. . . I want to see about receiving some aid in all this. This has been a issue since August of 2019. It has caused me to lose work for a lack of transportation. My credit has fallen behind because of not being able to make it to work and spending my savings on trying to guess at what is wrong with it. For it is my only vehicle. Now that the covid-19 is here is a double whamy! in dire straits - cali lovin my 4x4 - heather.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

While driving I had a real bad clunking noise in my steering wheel. I took it to the victory layne chevy dealer and spent a significant amount to pay for a defective intermediate steering shaft and column bearing replaced because I was concerned about driving it. Now my instrument cluster fuel guage is defective, the abs light& parking brake lights don't come on with the key on or at all and there are no codes from the dealer.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the instrumental the lights the illuminated while driving causing the vehicle to stall. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer performed whom performed a diagnostic which was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufcturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 128,000. Li.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

When using the air conditioner it sometimes blows very hot air. Now that it is cold out when using the heater it sometimes blows ice cold air. If this happens I have to stop, turn off my vehicle, then when I restart the vehicle it does the right thing. Some times I have to do this more then once to get it to work. I got a recall notice a while back but the dealer said it is only for when it smells like smoke. Guess they want me to have an electrical fire before they will fix it.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

Started my vehicle and let it warm up. No issues. . After waiting 5 min I drove away from my house and within 1 minute of driving( could of been less), all of my dash lights flashed/glitched,and my gauge needles go all the way down,I lose accuracy of speed, fuel, temps, etc. My indicator( where it shows mileage) reset to "driver 1" . Same thing happens everytime, and its always random, except the last 2 days. I just purchased this vehicle used, last year and a carfax was done and I just did a VIN search and nothing states this vehicle was either recalled or was the problem originally fixed when there was a recall.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

Driving slow down a block and smelled electrical fire smoke. The smoke got worse and darker and it was coming up from under my legs (I was driving). I pulled over, put my emergency blinkers on and turned off the engine. Had a hard time getting my seat belt unbuckled, but finally got it off and jumped out of the car. The smoke got really bad and very rapidly the driver seat caught on fire. My brother was with me, he was out of the car as well, and he called the fire department. Police and fire department arrived and put the fire out. The car was towed. If I hadn't gotten out of the car as fast as I did I would have caught on fire as well.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

The voltmeter does not read and needle is stuck below the gauge and now the speedometer is starting to go out, this is a safety concern. There was an extended warranty on the instrument panel however we could not take it in until it showed signs of failure. The failure accord now with 142,000 which is over the 80,000 extended warranty. I am the original owner of the vehicle and the best gm has offered to do for me is take $58. 00 off a a $475. 00 repair. I have talked to my dealership about just paying for the labor if they would replace the part but nope. I just moved to the area and do not have a service record with a dealer however I have had my vehicle serviced at only gm dealerships across the country. The original dealership I purchased the vehicle from is no longer in business and the other dealership I use to go to in my other state offered to basically replace the part with myself paying the labor however I live over 700 miles away from the dealership to have it done. If that can be done there why can't the dealership offer the same where I am now? I bought the vehicle new in good faith and only have purchased Chevrolet products my entire life. I do not understand why gm cannot help me out, they know this part is faulty, plain and simple.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

I was driving down the road when my 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe caught on fire burning to the ground. The report from the fire department says that the fire started due to failure of equipment or a heat source and that there were no human factors contributing to the fire. While looking on the internet I have found at least one other person that has encountered the same problem with her 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

Speedometer is reading erratically. When engine is turned of it does not go to zero and when driving sometimes it reads faster than actual speed and sometimes lower.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

A few weeks ago I was traveling down hwy 60 in southwest missouri and the "reduced engine power" light came on. The vehicle immediately slowed to about 4-5 miles per hour and I was unable to accelerate. I crawled to the next exit where I barely made it up the incline and into a gas station. We checked the gas, oil, battery, etc. I turned off the vehicle and when I started it up again, it seemed fine. I continued home. The next day I took it to a mechanic who said that it all checked out perfectly and there was nothing wrong. This has happened 12-15 times in the last month and every time I take it to the mechanic, he tells me that the computer is not "throwing codes" and there is nothing wrong. This is not a figment of my imagination. This keeps happening. The most recent "episode" was last night. We took the boat down to the river to go gigging at night. When I went to pull the trailer up the boat ramp and park the vehicle, the "reduced engine power" light again came on and I could not pull up the hill. Every time I attempted it, the light came on and I actually went backwards towards the river!! my children were in the vehicle and I was scared we would be trapped it something further malfunctioned and we rolled back into the deep cold water!!! from what I have now researched gm is aware of this problem and I do not understand why a problem this potentially deadly has not been dealt with! I am not the first owner of this vehicle and have never had a problem like this. I am a single mother of three beautiful boys and I am scared to drive my car because of this. I cannot put them in a potentially deadly situation. So our only vehicle sits and waits in our driveway leaving me stranded a lot until gm can come up with a solution on their dime. This isn't fair that a problem is know and no one at gm will fix it. Please help fix this before someone dies!.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned and she was unable to tell how fast she was driving. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 109,000.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

While driving my electrical gauges all went crazy and then quit one by one. I have only 2 left that work. My windshield wipers do not turn off and intermittent does not work on them. My hub on front tires keep needing replaced. They come lose to point of tire nearly falling off. My engine light came on and never turned off.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

The dash for the past year will work for a month or two, then go out for a month or two. I can not read any of my dash gauges. I can't tell how fast I'm going or how much gas I have etc. I have read where numerous other Tahoe owners have experienced the same issue. It is very annoying and not safe for my teenage son to drive. With as many complaints as have been filed, can we get a recall?.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

The speedometer fluctuated over a period of 2-3 days, then stopped working. I called a mechanic and was told this is a "known problem" with this vehicle and that there was a campaign. Unfortunately, this campaign has long expired. This is an expensive safety issue because the driver cannot tell how fast the vehicle is traveling. It should be a safety recall.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2012

On sept 21, 2012 I was driving home for lunch and after driving for about 10 minutes I notice my radio shut off and on, the power door locks kept locking and unlocking. Also, the gauges on the dash where coming on and off and all the lights inside on the Tahoe where going on and off also. As soon as everything stopped my airbags deployed and hit my face and chest. I remember a cloud of white powder and realized I was still driving. I was able to avoid running into on coming traffic.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

The speedometer, oil gauge and rpm gage on the cluster panel quit working. I think this should be a recall for the Chevrolet dealership. This is a default that should be fixed free of charge to the owners. No one wants to purchase a vehicle and have to put in the shop for a manufacture problem.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

The vehicle has been engaging in 4-wheel drive on its on for over a year even when traveling on the highway at 55 mph or more. When taken to the dealership, was told that this is a very common problem seen in this type of vehicle and very costly to fix. Was told to wait until it becomes more problematic to repair because of the cost. Now the light does not show on the panel to show if it is in 2 or 4 wheel drive and it is happening more frequently.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I ad no idea that this was an on going issue with the 2004 Tahoes until a CO-worker mentioned he had the same problem and then when I had a smog check done this year. I noticed about a little over a year ago that my guages were not working. Didnt really look into as, I have regualr oil changes and check my levels regualarly too. But recently my speedometer doesn't read the speed correctly. It's now a permanent issue and I will have to replace the cluster panel completely it's a serious safety issue and I cannot believe gm will not recall for this item! how many others out there have the same problem and just like me, did not know it was an issue!.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2011

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe "reduced engine power". Occurs intermittently and only allows you to go about 25 mph. Very unsafe if on a highway. Gm dealer replaced the faulty wire harness and plug that plugs into the throttle body. Also replaced throttle body itself.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

When air conditioner is running, air coming from driver's side vents become extremely hot while passenger's side remains cool. I cannot determine any specific conditions that made this occur. It seems to be totally random. The hot air is not warm air or pretty hot air, it is extremely hot, hotter than a hair dryer produces at its hottest. I report this because it is obviously a safety hazard and, judging from complaints showing on internet blogs, it is fairly common. Apparently Chevrolet is admitting no responsibility for this failure, even denying that it is a common problem.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2010

This vehicle has had numerous, frequent, and persistent electrical problems. The approximate date given was with the air conditioning where it blew only hot air. Two "repairs" at the dealer and two subsequent repairs finally revealed electrical problems. The real safety issues that continue are with the instrument panel that has at times affected the speedometer, tachometer (continuous problem), oil pressure gauge (continuous problem), and no dash lights at night. Computer analyses and resets have not solved the problem. Many other people have had the same issue, as evidenced by testimonials on forums and complaints. The danger in this is lights going out to a blank dash at night, engine problems that could result from the lack of a functioning oil gauge, and inaccurate or no speed readings. Should be a recall for the control panel system at the least. Thank you.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

Speedometer does not indicate correct speed. Speedometer does not return to zero mph when vehicle stopped. Speedometer is intermittent.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2009

The speedometer on my 2004 Tahoe does not give accurate speed readings. It said I was doing 62 miles an hour on the highway and I started passing every car on the road. I slowed down and then it never got above 15 miles an hour and I was on the highway. After shutting off the Tahoe for a few minutes it worked again. This happens regularly if I drive the car for more than about 30 minutes at a time.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

Wow! I just got off the phone with Chevrolet about my speedometer not working at all. The rep stated this was not a recall but an extension of the warranty for the cluster if your VIN# falls w/in a certain range. Mine falls w/in the range but I'm over 80,000 miles and I bought the car used so had no idea about the wty extension. This makes no sense to me the cluster / speedometer is not an added feature or accessory, but mandatory on all vehicles. In other words no vehicles are purchased with out it. Why is this not a recall it is a safety issue! there was a lawsuit on this, but only extended the warranty mileage, what???? it is defective no matter what the mileage, recall it before someone is seriously hurt due to an accident. I guess until it's recalled we can just guess what speed we are going, that's legal, right? help ASAP!!!!!.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2009

I was driving down one of the busy roads in manatee county, and the back hatch glass of my 2004 chevy Tahoe blew off of my car. It went air born and landed in the south bound lane almost on top of a car. If the car had not slammed on its brakes and swerved, it could have killed someone. I contacted the dealership, and the will not fix the problem. The hinges are still attached to my vehicle and the insurance company wants a $500 deductible. I know I have been online researching this kind of incident and I am not the only person to have this problem. I feel like it should be a recall before someone gets killed. It is not normal for a 4 year old vehicle to have its glass blow off.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. Speedometer failure at around 80,000 miles. I've been running on the speed indicator of my gps for the last 20,000 miles. Speedometer failures, due to faulty equipment, should be repaired in a recall by the manufacturer. The "silent" recall issued in 2007 never made it to me and it was only for cars under 70,000 miles. Speedometers are "safety" equipment. They shouldn't fail as often as the 2004 model year general motors vehicles are failing. There are way too many people having to spend four-hundred to six-hundred dollars on a repair that should be general motors responsibility.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

Speedometer registers 80mph at complete stop, 120 mph with movement. Problem did occur without warning. At this time not repaired because I do not have $500. I think it is a safety issue and Chevrolet should pay for repair even in my car is over 70,000 miles (is 83,000 now). I think we all want to save american car industry (with the help of taxpayers money), but we need to send the message to these people that they should be making reliable cars. Please we need a recall for the problem. I do want to keep buying american, but you need to help us out.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2009

I have a 2004 chevy Tahoe with 87000 miles on it. Problem is internal gauge cluster defect. In other words, the speedometer doesn't work. Chevy/gm admits that certain vins had defective clusters installed (including mine) yet they will not recall them and/or replace them unless the vehicle has less then 70000 miles on it. The fact that this is a defective part and not just normal wear and tear and also that thousands of chevy/gm owners are experiencing the exact same problem should constitute a recall, regardless of mileage. There are speed limits set on all roads because it is unsafe to drive at too high of a speed. If we could all accurately judge how fast we were going we would not need speedometers. However, we do need them and when they all the sudden your speedometer starts going crazy (I. E. Show your speed as 120 when you are in fact doing 30 or showing it at 35 when you are doing 75) it becomes a safety concern. The dealership where I purchased my car wants $575 to fix their defective part and gm/Chevrolet has told me "sorry, can't help you".

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

Failed speedometer. Started of messing up occasionally, but then began reading the wrong speed. Saying that I was going 25 when I was really going 55.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 25 mph in inclement weather conditions, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings. The failure occurred without warning. The authorized dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for repair service. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 42,515.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2008

My 2004 chevy Tahoe with 102,000 miles has speedometer needle that suddenly becomes erratic while driving after 30 minutes at 50-60 mph. It will reset to normal after a few engine starts and shuts down. I hear this is a common problem with gm trucks of this era. Isn't this a safety hazard? is there a recall?.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2008

2004 chevy Tahoe with 78k miles. On a road trip, speedometer increased to indicate 120+ mph. When vehicle stops indicator only falls to 55-65 mph. No change if vehicle is shut down. No other instruments appear to be affected. Appears to be a class action suit on this issue in California.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

Speedometer not indicating the correct speed.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2008

Speedometer on 2004 Tahoe quit working. Started getting stuck between 40 mph & 120 mph, but now has stopped completely. Received a letter from gm about 1 month ago, but it stated the problem was not a recall & would replace it up to 70 k miles. Mine has 77 k. Just my luck. This should be a recall.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2008

On October 11, 2008, the speedometer in my 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe failed. Sometimes the needle moves, but it is completely unreliable. This failure occurs everytime I start the engine. When driving this vehicle, I can never be sure if I am traveling at the correct rate of speed. I am very concerned for the safety of my family while in this vehicle. I have not been able to have this vehicle repaired yet as the cost is extremely high.
