1 Instrument Panel Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

I was driving on the highway when I glanced at my guages. The tachometer reading was below zero. Then suddenly my speedodometer started slowly falling from 65 to 70 mph to just below zero as well. Still driving. About 20 minutes later. The speededometer started to slowly rise. Finally it stayed steady at about 35 mph. This created a problem. Because I wasn't going 35mph on the highway. During this time, I tried not to increase or decrease my speed. I went with the flow of traffic. Because, obviously, it was a safe rate of speed at that time. Because the tachometer wasn't working too. The approximate calulation of my rate of speed. Could not be ascertained. "speed" is a significant threat to public safety. Whether it be the regular streets throughout your town or the interstate highway. Another reason to consider this a public safety issue is. Someone maybe driving faster than the speed rating of their tires. Because of instrument panel malfunction. The risk of serious tire issues have now increased. This is a direct safety issue. Through some research of my own. I found that alot of the effected vehicles. Started having this issue after 70000 to 80000 miles. Gm's attempt to rectify this safety hazzard is lame at most. 7 yrs 70. 000 miles. These numbers were picked so they could keep their costs at a minimum. We, the consumer, are being forced. To take it once again. From the big businesses that refuse to take responsibility. For the very dangerous issues of which they created! has anyone figured out how many SUV's have been or will be effected? how many of them are or will be on the road? also, once the instrument panel cluster gets replaced. The odometer & hour readings need to be reset. This opens the door for a new set of problems. Odometer fraud.

2 Instrument Panel Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

Instrument panel malfunctions by sticking while driving and not returning to zero when the car is turned off. In order to get the speedometer to zero out you have to turn the car on and off until the needle drops to zero. Other times the instrument panel fails to register any values. I called Chevrolet customer assistance center they referred me to the dealership which wants to charge me $ 500 for the part and an amount to be determined in labor ($200-300) to replace the instrument cluster. This appears to be a known defect for model years 2003-2007. Several complaints have been filed in court. Northern district of CA. One such matter. Hundreds, if not thousands of defective instrument panels have been cited by the case filing and the listing on several public websites that include the NHTSA website. The NHTSA cites in reports that in 2005 30% of accidents leading to fatalities are speed related crashes; the same reference lists 13,113 lives were lost. Considering this assessment by the NHTSA - I find this matter not subject to full recall or further detailed investigation an alarming issue. Due to the instrument panel being a vital measuring device for the operator this becomes a significant safety and concern for all consumers who are on roads where these vehicles are used not just the owners.
