general problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe - part 1

We were sitting in a parking lot with the engine running and heard an explosion in the vehicle. Later we discovered that the left rear, side curtain air bag had deployed. Horn has been inoperable for months cruise control hasn't worked in years steering wheel radio controls don't work. No appointment reason for any of it. Pass air bag off warning light red air bag light is usually on but not always.

I was involved in an accident last year where I took out a gaurd rail next to a building. My air bags never deployed and now my car will not run.

I was sent a notification in February 2021 to notify of a recall for the airbags on my Tahoe. I have received no further information from general motors, Chevrolet or the local dealer. The notice says a severe injury or death could result from the malfunction. Seven months is not timely. I checked the general motors website and it states no parts or repairs are available. I will contact them also so see if this can be escalated. Dangerous.

Received a recall notice gm recall: n212328760. Made an appointment to have the recall work completed with simpson Chevrolet in irvine CA. When we left the car we were told that they have to go under the dash to do the work, and if they break or crack the dashboard, we would be responsible for the repairs. We did not have the work completed as the notice says the service will be performed for you at no charge. They also inflated the mileage by 9,000 miles.

There has been a recall on my airbags for years. For about 2 weeks now my service airbag message has been on. It came on when I started my car one day and has remained there. The 2nd issue is something electrical. I can be driving and I'll lose all power and lights/radio for 5-20 seconds and then pop back on. That has happened numerous times. Or I'll get out of my car and go to lock it and have no power. Both times that has happened , I popped the hood and the power came back on without me doing anything.

Dash cracked in two places, driver and passenger side. Concerned more about passenger side due to air bag. The vehicle is not my everyday vehicle with very low mileage and kept inside its whole life in an well insulated fully covered garage.

No resolution to current airbag safety recall. Nhtsa recall number 16v383. Gm tells me it is safe and nhtssa says I might die.

Still waiting on outcome of takata airbag recall.

The dealer says they do not have the parts to replace the recalled air bags and do not know when they will get them. Yesterday the computer flashed a warning to check air bag.

Airbags have not been fixed due to parts not available it's been 3 yrs since! every time I call the dealer I get the same well we don't have any parts. You should be fine. . . Because of that I haven't felt safe for my kids to be in a vehicle I love and paid so much for! so now it's just sitting or used by my husband but we have to be careful.

I drove my vehicle in the morning and then parked it for about 2. 5 hours. When I started my vehicle the gas gauge showed my car was empty, even though I had just recently filled up and had only gone about 80 miles on the tank, my airbag readiness light stayed on, and none of my gauges were functioning. Also, the light for the passenger air bag above my review mirror didn't illuminate at all. I drove it for a few seconds and tried turning it off and then back on, but nothing changed. After driving it for a few miles, I parked and turned the vehicle off again. When I turned it back on, everything began working again. I believe this is an electrical issue, but when taken to the dealership, I could not get it to replicate the issue. Besides the obvious danger of not having any gauges while driving, my fear is that the airbags would not work properly in an accident.

Takata recall - I have been trying since 2016 to get this remedied and keep being told that there is no current remedy for this. I just went to a chevy dealer this am and was told the same thing.

Takata recall" -- gm recall #2049151; NHTSA #16v381. I live in southern oregon where it is very humid and can also get very hot, both of these conditions are listed by the manufacturer to increase the rate at which the airbags can degrade. This recall is over two years old, repair or replacement should exist by now. I have contacted the dealership in my area multiple times, only to be told each time, that there is no remedy for this problem. I would consider trading my vehicle in and getting something safer, but due to this unresolved recall, the value of my vehicle has been diminished. This is my second complaint to the NHTSA.

I bought the car a year a go, I started to notice some cracks ok the top dashboard, by the instrument cluster, I big crack by the top air bag system. The cracks are getting bigger, im afraid this is not safe in case of traffic accident.

Takata recall - we rec'd a recall notice back on July 2016 but the dealer has not rec'd the replacement parts. I contacted gm Chevrolet and I understand gm is saying we are not at risk with the airbags based on their findings? why the recall? waiting on nhsta to change their decision on the recall? I'm confused. . . Is there a recall or not? 2 years and still no resolution? what would make the Chevrolet Tahoe takata air bags safe but the Honda's we own, not safe and were replaced quickly by the dealer? my understanding is the chemical in the air bags breaks down. . . Is there something special with the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe where this does not occur? we live in georgia - high humidity! it should not take 2+ years to determine if the air bags should be replaced after a safety recall is issued. . . I hope they are safe. . . I am not sure who to believe.

Have called chevy dealerships and they have no parts to replace the airbags. The airbag is on and do not feel safe at all driving it.

Takata recall 2-6-17 Chevrolet dealer in mt. Pleasant, SC told me my subject Tahoe had diminished value because of the air bag issue. Why have I not been told about this safety matter and appropriate follow up action taken for our safety? I have only owned Chevrolets all my life and find this issue very troubling. Is this vehicle safe to take a four day trip to another state? please advise. Thanks.

Started the Tahoe and put it in drive and the side curtain airbags deployed on both the driver and passenger side. The seat belts also locked up.

Dashboard complete crack at left upper corner of passenger airbag cover dash plate. There is atakata airbag recall since 2016 that gm still has pending replacement. Crack happened while vehicle was stationary in parking lot this summer. Since cold small hairline crack is now completly thru dash and pushed airbag dash cover up. I am afraid that if the vehicle gets jarred the bag will release.
